Summer is just around the corner and this means humidity isn’t far behind. Summer is always welcome, but humidity is persona non grata! Alas, there is nothing to be done about humidity, so, we have to arm ourselves with the right beauty products to get us through summer looking our best. Though my warm weather makeup routine gets pared down a bit because of the heat, I still need to pull myself together for my day job. Finding the right sunscreen that wears well under my makeup, yet still is able to protect me from the sun, is crucial. Here are three that wear beautifully under makeup as well as provide broad spectrum protection against the sun’s damaging UVA and UVB rays.

Shiseido Urban Environment SPF 42

shiseido urban environment oil free uv protector spf 42This SPF from Shiseido has been a tried and true favorite of mine for a few years. It is incredibly lightweight, feels great on the skin and dries down to a matte finish! So in addition to getting great sun protection, this formula also acts as a primerunderneath my foundation. The compact packaging design also makes this one of my favorite sunscreens to bring when I travel. Sephora $32

Revive Daily Cellular Protection SPF 30

Revive Daily Cellular Protection

A bit more of a splurge, this Revive Daily Cellular Protection SPF 30 blends both the skincare and sunscreen worlds perfectly together in one product.  The formula helps to target fine lines and wrinkles, continuously nourish and hydrate the skin while also helping to protect the skin from environmental aggressors. It has a rich texture but feels weightless on the skin and I can wear it year ’round. With heavier creams I tend to worry about the excess shine factor, but fear not my oily skinned friends — this does not make skin oily or shiny throughout the day.  Neiman Marcus, $215.

 Murad Invisiblur

Murad InvisiblurThis new launch from Murad initially caught my attention just by the name alone — InvisiBLUR. It sounded like something I wanted to get on my skin asap! The formula has a silicone like feel that instantly mattifies the skin and blurs any imperfections. But unlike some products that have that slippery texture to them, this one does not make my skin feel like it is suffocating underneath. It provides a gorgeous, smooth finish under foundation. We have had a few hot days in NYC already and this has held up spectacularly in the heat and humidity, so I suspect it will be close at hand all summer long.  Sephora, $65

Can you really clean your face with an oil?  The short answer is yes.  While you can clean with an oil, not all oils are created equal. The idea behind oil cleansing is that oils can break down the oily residue, makeup and other impurities on the skin allowing you to rinse them away. The cleansing oils hitting the market have taken that a step further and (most) are formulated to emulsify on contact with water, making them easier to rinse away. The result is clean, moisturized, non-greasy skin.  Since we are all about skincare and trying new products, the TTB ladies have found their favorite cleansings oil (of the moment) and they share them below.

Murad Renewing Cleansing Oil

Murad Renewing Cleansing Oil

Murad Renewing Cleansing Oil ($32) has been my cleansing oil go-to most of the winter. Like most girls with oily skin, I initially paused at the thought of a cleansing oil. But, as we now know, there are good-for-skin oils and there are bad-for-skin oils. This one is one of the good guys. It breaks down makeup, removes dirt and leaves skin feeling smooth and supple. It’s a really nice touch of hydration for overworked winter skin. – Felicia

Garnier Clean Nourishing Cleansing Oil

Garnier Clean Nourishing Cleansing Oil

Jojoba and Macadamia oil are at the base of this cleansing oil and it has a pleasing scent.  Garnier Clean Nourishing Cleansing Oil really works well on my skin, and I especially like it for dry skin during the winter. It also does a great job of dissolving makeup (when I wear it).  I have used it with great results with my MIA 2 in the shower.  One of my favorite things about this oil is the price, $5.99, how can you beat that?  It’s also available in drugstores and supermarket, no need to order it online or make a special trip to a department store. – Leslie

Shiseido Ultimate Cleansing Oil

Shiseido Ultimate Cleansing Oil

I really love the Shiseido Ultimate Cleansing Oil ($25.)  It’s incredibly lightweight and removes all of my makeup easily and without effort. After I add water, it emulsifies into a thin milk that not only rinses away every last speck of makeup I’m wearing, but also softens my skin and leaves it clean without feeling stripped. – Maree

L’Occitane Shea Butter Cleansing Oil

L'Occitane Shea Butter Cleansing Oil

L’Occitane Shea Butter Cleansing Oil ($22) is one of the best cleansing oils I have ever used.  It completely breaks down makeup, even waterproof mascara and liner and rinses off without leaving a greasy residue on my face.  On no makeup days I can get away with just the Cleansing Oil and a toner to get my skin spotless, but on days when I use makeup I follow-up with a gentle cleanser to remove any residue.  This oil rose to the top of my preferences not only because of its performance, but also because it is formulated Sunflower Seed Oil, Shea Butter, Adansonia Digitata Seed Oil and Vitamin E.  If I can get the same level of efficacy from natural ingredients that I can from synthetic ingredients, the choice is really a no brainer. – Christene

I love reading blogger monthly favorites almost as much as I enjoy compiling them. It highlights the best and most loved products and that is saying a lot because bloggers get to try A LOT of products. I even include products in my monthly favorites that I’ve been using for quite some time but just feel the need to speak about again. That is the case for this month – all of these products I’ve chosen are ones that I’ve been using for a few months but can’t stop talking about. So without any further ado, let me rave about them some more.

 La Prairie Foam Cleanser

La prairie foam cleanser

Why I Love It: It gives a thorough deep cleanse while still managing to nourish and hydrate the skin.

Who It Might Work For and Why: Anyone looking for a foam cleanser that will not dry out their skin. I typically shy away from foam cleansers because of their propensity to strip my skin of its natural oils thus making my skin overcompensate by producing more oil. This cleanser not only cleansed and soothed my skin, it helped to balance it as well.

Bottom Line: This cleanser is a bit of a splurge, but with results as good as these, it’s worth every penny.

Available at Saks for $80.00.

 Shiseido Future Solution LX Foundation

Shiseido Future LX Solution FoundationWhy I Love It: It’s a foundation infused with skincare ingredients to help retexturize, lift and brighten the skin.

Who It Might Work For and Why: This is a great formula for anyone who wants to receive skincare benefits from their daily makeup. Though it has ingredients targeted for anti-aging, the formula is so smooth and flawless that it would work for any age. Once I apply it, I find that the foundation looks so invisible as if it’s fused with my skin.

Bottom Line: There is a limited shade range unfortunately, but if you can find a shade that works for your skin tone, I highly recommend giving this a try. Your skin will thank me.

Available at Nordstrom for $85.00.

Lorac Unzipped Palette

Lorac Unzipped PaletteWhy I Love It: It’s a gorgeous rosy-hued palette that mixes  both shimmer and matte shades.

Who It Might Work For and Why: Those that prefer a warmer, bronzy look would absolutely love this eye shadow palette. The colors all work beautifully together and are a mix of everyday neutrals that can create the perfect look for day or night. Though a majority of the shades have shimmer, it’s a wearable shimmer that would be suitable for most occasions. The darker shades are matte which make them perfect for lining the eye or transforming a day look to night.

Bottom Line:  This is an eye shadow palette that would work for any skin tone and for almost any occasion.

Available at here for $40.00.

I think I speak for all beauty lovers when I say ‘I love fall makeup and skincare collections’! They are always the most extensive and all the best launches are typically released in the second half of the year.  The fall season is what major beauty hauls are made of, right? Here are  4 Fall Makeup and Skincare Launches that you should get excited about.

Dior Rouge Baume

4 Fall Makeup and Skincare Launches to Get Excited About - Dior Rouge BaumeAfter getting everyone all hot and bothered with their Addict Fluid Stick launch, Dior came back with these new Rouge Baumes.  Sheer and comfortable like a balm, but with staying power of a lipstick. The color range is incredible so I am anxious to experiment with some deeper shades since they may be more wearable than a full coverage lipstick. Available at Saks for $35.00.

 Dior Star Foundation

4 Fall Makeup and Skincare Launches to Get Excited About - Dior Star Foundation

I know, I know. TWO Dior products in this post? Yup. They have been killing it with releases recently and I am so intrigued by this new Star foundation.  The shade range seems to be a bit better than previous formulations, which is a plus, and the formula is designed to help even skin tone, reduce the appearance of dark spots and brighten. What can be better than that? Not a darn thing. Available at Saks for $50.00.

 Charlotte Tilbury

4 Fall Makeup and Skincare Launches to Get Excited About - Charlotte Tilbury eye shadow quadThough this brand is not a new launch for the rest of the world, it is for the United States. Finally making her debut in store at Bergdorf Goodman and Nordstrom (the Grove) this month, the Charlotte Tilbury line has been highly anticipated by many, including myself. I have not splurged on anything yet, since I am waiting for an official counter to open so I can get the full experience. However, a few things on my radar are the eye palette in Sophisticate (all matte and all amazing), her Cheek to Chic blushers (I do have one of these and absolutely adore it), the eye shadow sticks and her soon to be released matte lipsticks.  Available at Nordstrom and Bergdorf Goodman now.

 Shiseido Ultimune Power Infusing Concentrate

4 Fall Makeup and Skincare Launches to Get Excited About - Shiseido Ultimune ConcentrateWhat is a favorite fall beauty launch list without a skincare mention? This new concentrate from Shiseido has received quite the buzz this fall, and personally I can never resist a new serum. I specifically like that it is designed for any age range and that it boosts the benefits of one’s current regimen, regardless of concern.  While not only helping to diminish wrinkles and boost radiance, the Ultimune complex helps to boost cell’s defensive functions in order to help the complexion reach its full potential. Sign me up! Available at Nordstrom for $65.00.

We are almost in the clear – it seems that the cold weather has finally  left the building and spring is desperately making it’s way in. Some people see spring  as a time to change – change bedding, change home decor, change diets – but I see it as a time to change my skincare. (A beauty girl through and through!) Though an entire overhaul is not necessarily needed, it is good to introduce certain products and take a different approach to taking care of your skin. Here are some products that I include in my beauty spring routine:

Cleansing Oils

shiseido cleansing oil

Now while I tout the benefits of cleansing oils all the time, I specifically find them relevant and necessary during the warmer months. As the temperature heats up, wearing less makeup is inevitable as it makes my skin feel like it’s able to handle the unbearable temps. So, if less makeup is worn, it is imperative that my skin be in tip, top shape – meaning that I need to make sure I am removing all the makeup, sun block and sweat/grime that could clog pores in the summer months. Cleansing oils are fantastic for all skin types and do a superior job of breaking down makeup and dirt better than most cleansers alone. Some of my favorites are: Shu Uemura, Amore Pacific and Shiseido.

Detoxifying mask

Mario Badescu Cucumber Tonic Mask

Even though I may be wearing less makeup in the summer, the higher temps make my face the oilier than in colder months, which often makes me more prone to breakouts. So adding a deep pore cleansing mask or treatment can help to remove all the excess dirt left in my pores. I typically use  a mask once per week so as to not to dry out my skin too much which can often lead to MORE oil production, and then I feel like a dog chasing my tail, or more aptly a beauty gal chasing the shine. My favorite masks/treatments are: Queen Helene Mint Julep Mask, Mario Badescu Drying Mask and Mario Badescu Cucumber Tonic Mask.

Facial Mists/Toners

Laura Mercier MistEssential to dealing with all that fun in the sun is hydration, hydration, hydration. So, while I may always carry a bottle of water with me in warmer months, I also carrying a facial mist that I can spritz on to give my skin a quick boost. And this is never more vital than at the beach, when even though you may be hiding under your enormous floppy hat and umbrella (oh that’s not you, that is ME), the sun’s ray can still dehydrate the skin quickly. A light misting of Mario Badescu’s Facial Spray with Aloe, Herbs and Rosewater or Laura Mercier Perfecting Water Moisture Mist can make the world of difference.

Mattifying Products

NARS Pro Prime PrimerShiny skin is no longer just the bane of oily skinned individuals’ existence – typically excess oil plagues all skin types during warmer months. Adding products that have mattifying properties can help to keep the skin shine free for most of the day. I have found success using a number of different products (not all at once but alternately) such as the Fresh Umbrian Clay Mattifying serum, which I often use under my moisturizer. On days that I may not be wearing any makeup, a swipe of Origins Zero Oil Pore Purifying toner helps to smooth the skin and leave it with a more matte finish before adding my sun protection. Primers are still the most popular way to control oil/excess shine and I always reach for NARS Pro-Prime Pore Refining Primer as my favorite.

Sun Protection

Kiehls Creme De Corps SPF 30Though this probably should have been listed first, sun protection is NEVER more important than in the spring/summer. Hours spent in the sun at the beach, enjoying a day at the park or even dining al fresco are enough to need stronger protection. I for one, as extremely fair so my sun protection is pretty solid all year round, but I include the rest of my body during the spring/summer. My standard go to for many years now for has been Kiehls Creme de Corps Lightweight Body Lotion SPF 30 which is extremely hyrdating, absorbs quickly and smells divine. For the face, Mario Badescu’s Oil Free Moisturizer SPF 30 is a favorite, as it wears well under makeup but provides good protection. For the beach and times I plan to spend outside, I always have a can of Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Body Mist SPF 45 because of the ease of application by just spray it on and rubbing it in, and my Julep Daylight Defense SPF 30 for the face.

It’s tent season folks…aka Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. For the most part I’ll be reporting daily run downs of my NYFW shows and shenanigans. Stay tuned for my complete run down of the day that was Fashion Week Day One. Also stay up in my bizzyness via twitter by following me @ThisThatBeauty. Guaranteed excitement, things I probably shouldn’t say out loud, and most importantly…fashion & beauty scoop galore!

In the meantime and  in between time, I am sharing exclusive deets on backstage makeup at John Bartlett. Makeup by Shiseido.

The inspiration came from the masculine clothes.  The makeup was the same for the men and women, except for the lip color.  This aligned with the John Bartlett collection since the women’s clothing looked the same as men’s, just fitted to their size.
