At Home Facial: Sulwhasoo

It’s week five of COVID-19 Shelter in Place/ Quarantine Life and at-home facials are officially a thing. Like, a thing thing! While many of us have ALWAYS allotted time for weekly self care, the current environment really has us calling upon our at home arsenal to  give skin the best treatment possible while under lockdown. And let me tell you — The skin enthusiast in me is here for it! I just love to see men and women embrace healthy skin habits. We are using   this time to show a bit more love and attention and I cannot help but to stan!

So — as long as we are indoors, I will be sharing some of my best at-home skin care rituals for: calming the skin, diminishing hyperpigmentation, softening fine lines, smoothing rough texture, refining enlarged pores, brightening the complexion, restoring hydration and so much more. These highly effective at home facial protocols deliver rapid, targeted results (because, otherwise, why bother?)

Today I am sharing my ultimate  Sulwhasoo  skincare routine. I’ve been using Sulwhasoo  for over 10 years. I was first introduced the brand when I was at Bergdorf Goodman. I was immediately hooked on how instantly the serums and creams calmed my hyper skin.

WHY SULWHASOO?

Today I picked Sulwhasoo because the formulations are extremely gentle, calming and soothing to the skin. Sometimes we focus so heavily on correcting surface issues, that we forget the way to prevent the issues from cropping up is to keep the surface calm and soothed.

IS THIS AT-HOME FACIAL FOR YOU?

This at-home facial is suitable for anyone who desires calm, balanced skin. I tend to to do this kind of routine when I want to balance out my overload of active ingredients like Retinol and Glycolic Acid. It’s nice to have skin care in your arsenal that can adjust to your skin’s changing needs or balance out other treatments.

STEP 1

I like to start with a double cleanse, particularly if I’m wearing makeup or sunscreen. Sulwhasoo Gentle Cleansing Oil is formulated to breakdown makeup and debris without stripping the skin. It contains a harmonious blend of antioxidant-rich apricot kernel oil and tangerine peel extract. The silky formula leaves skin cleansed,  revived and perfectly prepped for the next step. My second cleanse is  Sulwhasoo Gentle Cleansing Foam.   The gel-to-foam cleanser contains citrus peel, which gives skin an immediate boost of brightness.

STEP 2

It’s tempting to fast track and go straight to slathering on a rich moisturizer, but I like to thinly layer my moisture. For this reason, Sulwhasoo Essential Balancing Water is my crucial next step. Thicker than a toner but thinner than a serum, the lightweight essence delicately hydrates the skin.

STEP 3

Sulwhasoo First Care Serum helps to balance and nourish the skin.   A potent blend of Korean herbs work to firm, brighten and improve skin clarity. This serum is also wonderful if you are into layering under another serum…I sometimes do this when my skin needs MORE! First Care Serum works as a great booster if you’re into doing the double serum thing [If you are, I highly suggest layering with Sulwhasoo  Concentrated Ginseng Renewing Serum. The formula is more targeted, containing encapsulated Korean ginseng oil, ginseng root extract, and ginseng flower extract….which work in concert to more deeply hydrate parched skin, soften facial creasing, and give skin a bouncier texture.

STEP 4

Always protect your eyes. For this facial I’m using  Concentrated Ginseng Renewing Eye Cream. I really love how it performs. My biggest under eye challenge is keeping that area hydrated. If this is your chief under eye concern, honestly, you can find a less expensive moisturizer or serum that’s suited for the eye area. I’m using  Concentrated Ginseng Renewing Eye Cream because I happen to have it on hand, and I’m sharing what’s in my beauty closet, but I always like to be up front when I think something is or isn’t worth the splurge. If hydration is your main goal, you can skip this and try something more basic. But if your eyes are starting to appear crepe-y and the lines are more prominent than you desire,  Concentrated Ginseng Renewing Eye Cream is a good investment.

STEP 5

As your final step, make sure to seal in your skincare treatment with a moisturizer (and even an oil over the moisturizer if you have time for an additional step).  Concentrated Ginseng Renewing Cream is infused with Korean red ginseng, which promotes circulation in the skin and helps to boost a healthy, glowy complexion. Keeping in mind that moisturized skin always looks more youthful – never skip this vital step.

SIDE NOTE: My facial roller in the video is by Angela Caglia. It’s the  Angela Caglia La Vie en Rose Face Roller  and I cannot live without it. We’ve been going strong for a few years now! And my Gua Sha, also a staple for years is this.

Stay well!
