Summer ’16 is the year of you. Yes, YOU! Now’s the time to live your very best life….and rock the very best scent. Smelling great is the one beauty thing that I invest in for others. Let me explain: Skincare and Makeup are for me…I do both solely for my benefit. But Fragrance, ahhh — I wear fragrance to be noticed by others. If I’m not complimented on my fragrance, I feel feelings. I am legitimately offended if no one says, “You smell incredible! What are you wearing?” And if I may pat myself on the back, I am complimented on my fragrance choices on a daily basis. I kid you not. Everywhere I go, people feel compelled to stop me and comment on my scent….men, women, they all love my fragrance choices. 🙂
I say all of this to say, I know a thing or two (or three) about picking great scents. If you’ve met me in person, you’ve probably told me how good I smell (Golly, I must sound so arrogant speaking this bit of truth!). And if you’re a dear friend of mine who is reading this (Hi, Danielle!!), you probably own at least one or two scents that I’ve recommended for you. Ayyye, I know what I know. And I KNOW fragrance.
With that said, it’s time to step up your summer fragrance game with one of my can’t miss Summer 16 Scents. They’re unique, gorgeous, and guaranteed to get you noticed. But there’s one catch — they’re expensive (ranging from about $100 – $300). Sorry, not sorry. We’re adults. We can do this. Let’s go!
Maison Francis Kurkdjian Baccarat Rouge 540
I’ve been wearing Maison Francis Kurkdjian Baccarat Rouge 540 for months, and I still can’t put it down. I was at Bloomingdale’s in Short Hills, NJ about a week ago, and every associate I walked by asked me about my perfume. Color me flattered! Slightly woody, and just a tad bit floral, this woody-floral (see what I did right there?) smells incredibly luxe. The notes are rich, without coming on too strong. The dry down offers the most delicate touch of sweetness. This is one of the most indulgent scents you’ll ever own. If you’ve been a good girl (or good boy) and deserve a well-earned treat or a pick-me-up gift (because adult-ing is stressful sometimes), THIS is it. Look no further. And if your pockets are super deep, go all the way and layer Maison Francis Kurkdjian Baccarat Rouge 540 with Maison Francis Kurkdjian Mood Satin Oud. You will be poor, but you will smell ‘very rich’ *NeNe Leakes voice*. I cannot begin to explain how intoxicating this blend is. Just yesterday, at a press event, a master perfumer from France tracked me down (my scent had permeated through the event venue) and asked me EVERYTHING about my scents and how I layered them. He was blown away, and I felt validated times 1,000. Listen, y’all — I. Know. Fragrance!
CARVEN L’EAU INTENSE
I’m sort of double dipping by adding CARVEN L’EAU INTENSE to the list because it was created by Francis Kurkdjian, my favorite perfumer and the perfumer behind the previous scent, Baccarat Rouge 540. Having said that, I’m in love with absolutely everything Francis Kurkdjian creates. CARVEN L’EAU INTENSE leans a bit more masculine, which speaks to my personal fragrance aesthetic. Stick with me: Masculine notes smell wonderful on women. It’s an unexpected twist that’s guranteed to get a positive reaction. You’ll just have to trust me on this. Top notes of grapefruit, lemon, mint make a bright first impression, but it’s quickly calmed with woody notes of amberwood, cedarwood and moss. Buy now, thank me later!
TOM FORD BLACK ORCHID
Continuing my preference for richer, darker, more masculine scents, do yourself a favor and add TOM FORD BLACK ORCHID to the repertoire. It’s woody with bursts of fruit, which makes it a good transitional scent for the girl or guy who’s just starting to experiment with richer scents. This one is a good starter!
Designed to be layered or worn solo (and I am a big layer-er) JO MALONE BLACK CEDARWOOD & JUNIPER COLOGNE combines cumin, juniper and black cedarwood to create a a really seductive juice that feels modern and cool….the kind of scent you spritz when you need a little confidence in a bottle — it might sound corny but setting the right mood is everything!
Now hold your horses because this one won’t launch until July, but it’s worth marking your calendar now! ANNICK GOUTAL NINFEO MIO is a vibrant mix of fruit, fig and wood bark. The wear is fresh, yet a little bit earthy. It’s not too sweet or girly…it’s wonderful on its own or layered with a spritz of a slightly more masculine cologne.
I love Baccarat Rouge 540, I receive an compliment every time I wear it!!! LOVE IT.
But I want another show stopper, do you have any other recommendation for Francis Kurkdjian?
I’ve definitely been thinking about stepping my scent game up! I love masculine and/or unisex scents. I’m going to experiment with the wallet friendly scents I have now and save up to get a more expensive and sophisticated fragrance in the future.
Thanks for the recommendations!
You sure did! I layered it with Coco and it meshed beautifully, but man I love it on its own
I saw your snaps and ordered a sample of the Maison Francis Kurkdjian Baccarat 540 and after receiving it I immediately ordered the full size! It is beyond amazing. Intoxicating. You do know your fragrance! You know. Thank you!
Omg, didn’t I tell you?!! Enjoy it on good health 🙂
Ahhh, yes! I swear, I’m a fragrance (and skin) whisperer.
I saw you on snapchat talking about the perfume and I ordered a sample of the Maison Francis Kurkdjian Baccarat 540 and after I received it I immediately ordered the full size! It is beyond amazing! Intoxicating. You were spot on when you said you know scents. You know! Thank you â¤ï¸
Haven’t tried any of these. But I’ll keep my eyes open for them.
Adding to my list, thanks for sharing your fave perfumes. What is the best way to layer perfumes?
I like to do one layer all over and the more intense scents I spritz on pulse points and my next.
