Shall We Be Shallow?

I ask.
Shall we indulge in a moment of shallowness?
Sooooo…The fashion blogoshpere is buzzing over First Lady Michelle Obama’s choice in dress for last night’s most historic moment – a red and black sleeveless sheath with criss-crossed black satin cumberbund, from  Narcisco Rodriguez’s  Spring Summer 2009 Collection.
While I find Michelle O’s frock to be  unexpected  and unconventional, I must say I give her credit for taking the risk and not playing it safe. She could have easily come out in a black sheath and pearls. But if that were the case, we wouldn’t be having this conversation right now.  I haven’t loved every outfit Michelle O has worn, but I totally respect her fashion gangster.  I love that she’s not boring.  And it doesn’t hurt that she’s a very striking woman.  With her height, curves, and legs – she can pretty much wear whatever the heck she wants and still look impeccable.  Her makeup is always appropriate and beautiful.  I so cant wait for the 411 on what she wears.  My money’s on Bobbi Brown.
Well from a fashion/ beauty stand point, its going to be four great years of Michelle O.  Looking forward!

Your opinion represents one i hear from a lot of folks…maybe the dress was just a Mommy decision. Like “we’re going to match as a family. so mommy will wear black and red”. and maybe this was the best option available. who knows? but i think MO will def give us much to comment on over the next 4 years.

The fashion world is def conflicted on Michelle O’s frock…as am I. But honestly, the more I see it the more I like it. I don’t think I’ll ever LOVE it…but I’m feeling like its not as bad as I initially thought. It def didn’t read well on TV…it was kinda too busy and textured for tv. but in a few pics, the dress started to grow on me. i think Michelle has a lot of potential so i look forward to the next 4 years.

  • At first glance, I was not impressed with our First lady elect’selection. But i’ve since come to the conclusion that the dress must be stunning in person or she would not have chosen it. I think, its just a simple matter of it not translating well through the television.
I loved however the fact that the family dressed to match. I reminded me of my childhood. For some it may be hokey but for me it portrays a family united.
    God Bless the Obama’s

  • i was confused and couldn’t tell if you liked it or not. in true LSS fashion (pun kinda intended), i must be be honest and say that i hated it. although i was totally caught up in the moment and drowning in my own tears, when the soon to be First Lady hit that stage, i lost focus and immediately declared that I was not feeling her look. I regret that she wore that dress b/c that photo/look is going to go down in history. Now, I don’t know what the fashion world is saying about it, but if no one speaks negatively I just think it’s b/c they’re caught up in the hype. That crisscross ribbon-like band was not a good look on her. OK, I’m down speaking ill of the most amazing night of my life.
