Renee Rouleau: My favs and some great skincare tips!

Renee Rouleau is one of my favorite under the radar product lines. And by under the radar I mean, its not NYC based and is exclusively purchased online or through the full service Dallas, Texas spa.  Renee Rouleau offers one of the most thorough skincare product lines I’ve ever seen! I’m currently faithful to about six Renee Rouleau gems!

Renee Rouleau’s products and wealth of information available on her site have made a big difference in my skin.  I recently stumbled upon a great article that I’d like to share with you.  In the piece below, Renee Rouleau, skincare expert and  esthetician, drops lots of solid skincare advice!

HOW SHOULD YOU PREPARE YOUR SKIN FOR EXERCISING? IS IT BEST NOT TO WEAR MAKEUP?
Prior to working out, you should wash your skin with a mild, non-drying cleanser, and follow that with an alcohol-free toner and lightweight oil-free lotion. It’s important that your skin is free of foundation makeup prior to working out, as it’s best to let the skin breathe; eye makeup and lipstick are fine to wear. WHY IS IT NECESSARY TO WEAR MOISTURIZER?
When you exercise, you lose so much water that water evaporates out of the skin, leaving the skin dehydrated. Dehydrated skin increases surface lines, and skin cells will die prematurely; this can lead to premature aging as well as dead skin cell buildup, which can cause clogged pores. Using a lightweight moisturizer will help retain the water in the skin. If you are exercising outdoors, it’s best to use a very light moisturizer with a sunscreen. IS IT BENEFICIAL TO USE A MISTING SPRAY WHILE WORKING OUT?
If you want, you can pour your alcohol-free toner into a spray bottle, and mist your skin every 15 minutes. Avoid using sprays of pure water (like Evian), as they can actually attract the water out of the skin. Instead, use toners that have humectants, such as Sodium PCA or Sodium Hyaluronate, that actually help keep water in the skin. SHOULD YOU AVOID TOUCHING YOUR FACE DURNG A WORKOUT – ESPECIALLY WHEN USING THE CARDIO OR WEIGHTLIFTING MACHINES?
The machines do breed bacteria, so it’s best to keep your hands off your skin, as you don’t want to introduce bacteria that can spread existing breakouts or result in new breakouts.

SHOULD YOU ALWAYS WEAR A HEADBAND TO PREVENT SWEAT FROM DRIPPING DOWN YOUR FACE?
Headbands, when worn directly across the forehead, are not recommended, as they can cause a backup of oil and perspiration in the pores, resulting in little clogged bumps or breakouts. Try to keep your headband further back on your hairline, not directly across the forehead (especially if you’re prone to problematic skin).

HOW IMPORTANT IS IT TO YOURS SKIN TO DRINK LOTS OF WATER BEFORE AND AFTER A WORKOUT?
Since you lose so much water from perspiration, it’s crucial that you replace it by drinking plenty of fluids before, during, and after workouts. This can also help to keep the skin hydrated. The electrolyte-replacing drinks are especially helpful for re-hydrating the body.

HOW SHOULD YOU CARE FOR YOUR SKIN AFTER YOU WORK OUT?
For those with oilier skins, wash with a non-drying gel cleanser (avoid cleansing gels that contain Sodium Laureth Sulfate or Ammonium Laureth Sulfate as they are too drying) to thoroughly remove oil, toxins, and sweat. Wipe your alcohol-free toner over the skin and apply a moisturizer. If your skin is quite red after your workout, look for moisturizer with vaso-constricting ingredients, such as Chamomile or White Tea, which will help to calm the skin, taking the pressure off of the capillaries.     Hello, I would like to know if you consider Renee Rouleau similar to Mario Badescu ´s products? Between these two lines, I found a considerable price difference, is there a noticeable between Renee Rouleau and Mario Badescu, I ´d appreciate your advice… thanks! Take care!
