National Fragrance Day is March 21st, so naturally, I’m celebrating. When I say ‘fragrance’ you might think of perfume. But let’s get a little more granular and include that candle you light when you want to get your mind right, or the soap that brings back 20-year-old memories or the zen-inducing roller ball you swipe when sleep is proving elusive. Here are a few wonderfully fragrant items I’m loving at this very moment.
Escentric Molecules 01 – This perfume “is formulated with ‘Iso E Super’, a revolutionary fragrance molecule that gives each wearer a personalized effect.” It’s a combination of Pink Pepper, Lime, Benzoin, and Mastic. For me, the pink pepper is the thing that stands out most. It’s a unique and mellow scent filled with an unforgettable presence. ($85 at Netaporter.com)
Pooka Pure and Simple Forever Lavender Natural Oil Perfume – Is a simple combination of coconut and jojoba oils mixed with fragrance and essential oils. It gives you a jolt of lavender right up front, then smooths out on the finish. I like to use this at bedtime to help calm and relax my mood. It’s like a chill pill in a fragrance form. ($14.99 at Pookapureandsimple.com)(P.S. If you love lavender you should definitely try the entire line of Forever Lavender products.)
Ambi Complexion Cleansing Bar — The moment I caught a whiff of this soap I was instantly transported back to Jamaica, the place where I first used the product back in the early 90s. As the name suggests, The Complexion Cleansing Bar is made to help clean skin and even out complexion, but it’s the fragrance that gets me every time. I associate the fresh scent with a feeling of being clean, but also of being home. ($2.49 at Target.com)
Loli Beauty Tea Seed Elixir — This antioxidant-rich face oil smells like the air one might experience stepping into the center of an orchard. It has a burst of citrus up front with a bit of earthiness underneath. It’s a combination of tea oil, linseed oil, flaxseed oil, apricot oil, sweet orange oil and pink grapefruit oil. It sinks immediately into freshly washed (and toned) skin without leaving a greasy residue behind. You can use the elixir alone or mix it into a mask following a Loli Beauty recipe. ($68 lolibeauty.com)
Jo Malone English Oak & Red Currant Cologne — This is the perfect cologne to transition from what feels like the longest winter every, into (what I hope) is the most beautiful spring in recent memory. Bursting with a top note of tangy red currant, this fragrance instantly wakes me up. It slowly morphs into something a bit more floral before drying down to a slightly earthy/woody finish. ($135 at Sephora.com)
Origins Feel Good Candle in Neroli Lemongrass — It’s the name of this one that really got me, but the candy-like fragrance mix kept me lighting up, over and over again. Neroli can be overpowering when paired with more delicate notes. However, in this soy-based candle, both Neroli and Lemongrass play nice, neither stealing the spotlight from the other. The feel-good part of the candles comes from knowing that every time you buy a candle, Origins plants a tree. ($34 at Origins.com)
