My New Lip Obsession

RIGHT NOW…as in at this very moment, I am losing my mind over:

VELVET MATTE LIP PENCIL

by NARS

When it comes to lip product I am pretty much a gloss girl through and through. Faithful ThisThatBeauty readers know that I have recently lucked up and stumbled upon some fantastic lipstick finds these last few months. Well I guess the lip product Gods have smiled down upon us once again because NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil is looking like
a winner.

Y’all know I love the unexpected, right? So I recently visited NARS in search of Honolulu Honey lipstick, a beautiful nude shade that my girl Erin (I call her “my girl” as if I know her like that. The reality is I’m just a fan). Anywho, as I was saying, “My girl Erin” over at Scandalous Beauty did a video and was wearing Honolulu Honey…and Honey I had to have it! So I hit up my local NARS counter to give it a try.

The lovely Katya (also a photographer – www.EkaterinaKardon.com) applied Honolulu Honey, but honey – it was not working out for me. Just too pale for my brown-ness. But the lovely Katya was on her true makeup game. She averted my attention to other NARS lip offerings in an attempt to help me achieve the desired look.

SEE, now this is what I’m talkin about folks. A makeup artist who’s on her game and can truly get in your head, understand your needs, assess the situation, and recommend a product thats gonna take you there.

Well folks, Katya took me there! She introduced me to NARS Matte Velvet Lip Pencils. Don’t let the word “pencil” deter you. These amazing pencils are really fat so they look nothing like those skinny hard lip liner pencils. The formula is like something I’ve never experienced in a pencil. With the lightest stroke and tap of the pencil, the result is an instant coating of rich buildable pigment. The non-drying formula is enriched with special emollients for a creamy texture. The lip pencil also contains silicones to ensure long lasting coverage for hours. This lipstick actually FEELS good. It is in no way dry or heavy.

I am in love with three pencils – a deep reddish/magenta color, a neutral brownish color, and a great nude/mod tone. NARS calls these colors:

– Damned (magenta)

– Marina (rich cognac)

– Tortola (mauve plum)

Matte lip color is great for fall. But you also have the option of adding a little gloss on top. Lastly, the colors are all buildable. You can do a sheer matte lip with just a few light strokes. Or go for the gusto and do a deep matte pout. The options are endless and the choice is yours, diva!

These pencils may be purchased directly through NARS.com, Sephora, and fine department stores. The retail at $24 each. However, Neiman Marcus has a great 3 pencil pack, with sharpener for $45. This is an awesome deal.

Below you will find a product description fron NARS as well as pics of yours truly wearing my new fall lip obsession.

TORTOLA – This lip is gonna be awesome with a heavy winged black liner, a freight load of mascara and pinky/nude cheeks

MARINA – This lip will pretty much go with whatever. I wore it the other night with this eye palette and I was killin em’!

DAMNED – This lip is awesome with lots of mascara and very thin black liner on upper lash line. Let the lips do all the talking

  • I love Tortola too! It like my perfect fool proof lipcolor. Not to mention that it’s named after my great-granny’s birthplace.
