Mani of the Week: Featuring the Jinsoon for Tess Giberson Collection

I love Jinsoon polishes and I am always eager to try new creations.  I find that I reach for them more than any other brand…at least at the moment. The Jinsoon collaboration with Tess Giberson for Fall 2014 is inspired  by “the transference of classic rugged American sportswear into contemporary, effortless, luxurious style” and only further deepens my love of the brand and the nail artist, Jin Soon Choi, one of the nicest people I’ve met in the fashion industry.

Jin’s collaboration with fashion designer, Tess Giberson, was born backstage  at Tess’s F/W 2014 NYFW runway show and    resulted in the creation of five luxe polishes all with transformative effects.  Of the collaboration, Jin says,  “I wanted to transform  a classic color palette by adding cool, subtle effects like shimmer and speckles to give the hues a completely new dimension.” Jin goes on to say, “In winter I always like  shimmer on the nails because winter is so dull.  I want something to bring some life to the nails.”  And life is definitely being brought to the nails, especially with Jin’s detailed, yet simple nail art.

In the picture above (captured by Jin herself) I’m wearing the negative space manicure; it requires very little precision and even less patience.  Here are the steps and what you will need:

WHAT YOU NEED:

  1. Base coat
  2. Top coat
  3. Dotting tool
  4. Nail polish remover
  5. Paper towel
  6. Polish of choice (shown above I’m wearing Nocturne with Heirloom accent nail)

HOW-TO:

  1. Apply base coat (very important)
  2. Apply one coat of polish of choice to all fingers
  3. Apply a second coat of polish to one nail and immediately take the dotting tool and with gentle pressure, make a zig zag (or squiggly) line down the center or off center of the nail
  4. Dip dotting tool in nail polish remover and wipe clean on paper towel
  5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 until all nails are done
  6. Apply top coat

Honestly, it couldn’t be simpler, if you’ve  tried my negative space mani you would appreciate the simple brilliance of Jin’s technique. To see how my manicure looked after 7 full days of wear, click here.
