We’re beginning to feel the chill of fall weather creeping in, which means it’s time to get our fall makeup game on point. Although we’re sad to be packing away our favorite chunky heeled sandals and bright nail colors, we couldn’t be more excited to breakout that bordeaux lip colors that have not been worn in forever.
Fall makeup is one of the best things to come with the change in season. To help you slay your next pumpkin picking excursion, or look fab at Thanksgiving dinner, we’ve picked a few key makeup items that are essential this fall.
Red Eyeshadow
It might sound scary, but red eye shadow is chic new trend this season. When used appropriately red eyeshadow can take your makeup look from average to extraordinary in no time.
We’re loving NYX’s Hot Singles Eyeshadow in “Heat” ($4.50, NYX.com) or “Blazing” by Anastasia Beverly Hills ($12, AnastasiaBeverlyHills.com) for full red eyed glam. Use a nude lipstick with this eye look to keep things subtle or go full on like Lupita.
Editor’s Note: If you want to experiment with red eye shadow, try smoking it out by combining it with a dark brown or black eyeshadow. Tight lining the eye and lightly smudging it underneath also adds a bit of drama. Dotting red eyeshadow in the center of the lid and blending out on both sides might be just what you need to be the center of attention.
Dark Lipstick
My obsession with darker hued lipstick started this year with the release of McGrath Labs’ Blood 2 ($25, PatMcGrath.com) which I’m still absolutely obsessed with. Dark lips have been a fall season beauty staple for as long as I can remember, and this year the trend continues. All dark lipsticks are beautiful, but the dark burgundy color in particular is the hot lip trend of the moment. Pair this lip with an easy cat eye, or simple coat of mascara for a bit of controlled drama.
You probably have little time to pile on the products if you are a girl on-the-go. Cult favorite Bite Beauty recently debut their Multi Stick ($24, Sephora.com), which is available in a variety of flesh, berry, and red tones. Apply the product like a cream to cheeks and lips for quick color application that you can blend in with your fingertips. We’ve always said makeup was an art anyway.
Brown Mascara
When you’re going for the no makeup, makeup look brown mascara, like Maybelline’s The Falsies ($10.49, Maybelline.com) in “Brownish Black” is a great way to accentuate the lashes without them seeming overdone.
Lip Stain
Not totally sold on the dark lip trend, or makeup in general? A lip stain could be the perfect solution. Keeping in theme with the no makeup makeup trend, a light lip stain like Revlon’s Color Stay Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain ($9.49, Ulta.com) is a no fuss way to add a flush of color to the lips. Glossier’s Cherry Balm Dot Com ($12, Glossier.com) is another balm that offers a pop of color, and packs on the moisture.
Dark lipstick still isn’t my thing. I mean, I absolutely love it on some people but I feel like I’m just not the type for it.
