We’ve all heard the phrase and probably seen images of countless eyebrows that are “on fleek”. You know the ones – they have amazing arches, an even fade of color from beginning to end, and clean, sharp edges. These are the type of eyebrows that many of us want, and try to perfect on our own faces. Want to know the secret formula to finally achieving dream eyebrows? Read on to find out how to take your eyebrow game to the next level.
Here are some important things to note before beginning your eyebrow transformation:
1. Keep ’em clean
If you can’t shape your brows on your own, get them professionally done then use a tweezer to maintain them. Prior to styling, make sure to clean up any stray hairs around your brows prior to filling them in with color. This way, you can be sure to maintain an even overall shape, as well as cleaner edges.
TTB Tip: If you are going to tweeze your own brows, do it after you shower. Pores are more open and the tweezing won’t be as uncomfortable.
2. Pick your method
When filling in your brows, there are a variety of ways to do so, including gels/waxes, pencils, and powders. When first beginning to fill in brows, I find it’s usually easier to use an eyebrow pencil in order to get a feel for different variations of hair-like strokes. My absolute favorite brand to use is Anastasia Beverly Hills, because the formulas are extremely buildable, and don’t appear too harsh on your face.
3. Choose the right color
This is one of the most important steps in the art of brow mastery. It’s essential to choose an eyebrow shade that makes sense for your skin tone, and current eyebrow and hair colors. One of the biggest mistakes that people can make is choosing a hue that’s too dark. (Eeek!)
TTB Tip: If you have light eyebrows, go one shade darker, if you have dark eyebrows, go one shade lighter.

Now you’re ready to begin! You’ll look like Cara Delevingne in no time.
Step One:
Brush your eyebrow hairs up using a spoolie brush such as Sonia Kasha’s Core Tools Spoolie Brush (Target.com, $1.99) to promote lift and volume. Alternatively, you may use a fine tooth comb like the one from the Kiss Beautiful Brow Kit.
Step Two:
Looking straight ahead and using your eyeball as a guide, place a pencil or brush along the side of your nose to gauge where your eyebrows should begin. In addition, the outer edge of your iris signifies where your arch lies. Lastly, place a pencil or brush along the outer edge of your eye at angle toward your nose to gage where your eyebrow should end.
Step Three:
Starting at the bottom of your brow, and in the middle section, begin lightly drawing wispy marks to begin filling in sparse areas. If your brows are particularly sparse, it helps to lightly outline the bottom of your brow toward the end, and work upward to build your shape. It’s important not to create a boxy outline shape with your brow, as this may takeaway from the softness in your overall look.
Step Four:
Use a spoolie brush to even out the pigment you’ve placed in your brows. Continue to layer color, then brush out until you achieved the shade of your choice. Brows should appear lightest in front, then gradually become darker toward the back.
Step Five:
Finish your look with a touch of your concealer or an eyebrow highlighter, such as NYX Push-Up Bra pencil (ULTA.com, $9.99). Place underneath the brow for added lift and brightness, and to sharpen up any unsavory edges. Be sure to blend as if your life depended on it!
