Finally….my review of The Makeup Show

Oh how I wish ThisThatBeauty paid the mortgage, my car note, PSEG, Cablevision, AMEX, daily commute into the city…and covered the untold fortunes I’ve spent on makeup, lotions and potions. Oh how I wish!

My lovelies, I am very very sorry for just getting around to my post on The Makeup Show four days after the fact….but the job that pays the aforementioned comes first. Bummer, I know. So after one helluva work week, I finally have time to spend with you…my TTB readers, friends in my head, fellow makeup mavens, product aficionados extraordinaire.

My lovelies, behold – My review on The Makeup Show

The Makeup Show. WOW. Where does one begin? First and foremost, The Makeup Show is a MUST ATTEND event for all makeup artists, aspiring makeup artists, makeup mavens, etc. If you know me well, you know I’m not one to throw the “blessed” word around often (i.e. “have a blessed day”. Or after being asked how ya doing – “oh, I’m blessed thank you”). Yea, I don’t really do that but I have to tell you…I felt extremely blessed to be able to participate in such an event and be in the presence of such an awesome community. Going into The Makeup Show I wasn’t really sure what to expect. I had heard about it but had never experienced it first hand. I pretty much figured it would be a great opportunity to take some workshops, learn new techniques, rub elbows with the best and brightest brands, etc. But what I experienced exceeded by greatest expectations by leaps and bounds. This event was an awesome display of community. Reps from cosmetics lines bent over backwards to talk with you about their lines, offer tips, freebies, advice, etc. All of the companies represented at The Makeup Show did an excellent job. It was also great to have the opportunity to fellowship with other beauty bloggers. While I didn’t have a chance to meet all of my favs, I did meet one of my most admired beauty gurus – Koren aka EnkoreMakeup (on youtube). Koren is a certified GURU on youtube. He has over 150 videos and over 13,000 subscribers. His videos cover everything from makeup techniques and reviews, to brush care, makeup organization, and everything in between. Well Koren and I were on line checking in at the same time. I introduced myself and gushed uncontrollably. We chatted over all the stuff we were looking forward to seeing. Koren was a doll. I bumped into him all day long. He dropped little nuggets of knowledge every time I saw him. Towards the end of the day (as is evidenced by the oil slick that is my face) Koren was gracious enough to allow a quick flick. See me below my pic with Beauty Guru, Koren. If you’re not familiar, get familiar – Enkore Makeup!

I also had the pleasure of spending some time with AJ Crimson, beauty artist to the likes of Christina Milian, Amerie, Fergie (from Black Eyed Peas), etc. AJ Crimson has partnered with Keisha Whitaker (wife of actor Forest Whitaker) to create Kissable Couture, a luxurious line of glosses. While the market for glosses might seem a bit oversaturated, Kissable Couture offers something uniquely different from concept, to packaging, to the fun ombre gloss mixture in the tube. Their current collection encourages you to “Bare your Soul” and go nude. Well I got buck naked with the shade “Honesty”…review to follow in a future post.

Here’s a couple of quick shots of AJ and Keisha…she’s the uber thin hot momma/model rockin the eye popping blue frock and killer 12inch Christian Louboutin’s.

I honestly feel bad for all makeup artists/ aspiring artists who weren’t able to make it to The Makeup Show. I truly learned so much and benefited way more than I anticipated. I thought I’d go, buy some makeup, hand out a few business cards, take a class and go home. But The Makeup Show was much more than that. The experience was deeply educational and enlightening. It was like an Obama rally for makeup!

I tried to connect with as many brands as possible. I have more goodies than I can count and will be doing reviews on all. Reviews to come:

Smashbox OGlow – Cheek and lip color. Also body lotion

Kissable Couture – Honesty gloss

Crown brushes – many different brushes to review

Makeup Forever – High Definition Foundation and HD Powder (heads up – LOVE!!!)

Makeup Forever – Sens’Eyes eye makeup remover (heads up – LOVE!!!)

Mac – Sci Fi Collection

Covergirl – Lash Blast

Max Factor – Vivid Impact mascara (several shades to review)

Max Factor – Vivid Impact eye shadow duo (several shades to review)

Stila – Silk Shimmer gloss

Adesign – round pointed foundation brush

Anastasia – Brow stencils and gel

Myrabelle – Mascara Shield

If you love makeup as much as I do, make it your business to attend The Makeup Show next year. I promise, you will not be disappointed.
