The month of August inevitably means I start thinking about my fall wardrobe. It is about the same time that  high-school girls and college-aged women start shopping to build and update their Back to School wardrobe. If Fall/ Back to School wardrobe planning is working it’s way up your to do list, let’s shop American Eagle Outfitters together.  With my  Fall Wardrobe Picks from American Eagle, I’ll help alleviate the stress and guide you to perfect picks, from new scene-stealing denim, to perfectly paired jackets and drapey patterned scarves. . . I’ll show you how to pepper these items into your wardrobe so that you stay on trend and look amazing — all without breaking the bank.

Bump Up Your Basics

Instead of investing in the trendiest looks of the season, build your wardrobe around the essentials. In doing so, the mix & match factor increases considerably and your wardrobe will go much further.

My Picks:  Skinny Kick Jean,  AE Safari Jacket,  AEO Ikat Loop Scarf

Bump up the Basics
Our model, Christene

Skinny Kick Jean: Can be worn over a boot or bootie & can be tucked and cuffed (shown below)  to switch up the look. Skinny Kick Jeans are available  in several washes and in regular, long and extra long inseam.  Christene’s inseam is a 36 (model, much?!) and she is wearing the extra long inseam.

AE Safari Jacket: This jacket is lightweight and perfect for layering. It can be worn as the main outerwear or belted and worn under a heavier coat as it gets chilly.

AE Ikat Loop Scarf: Here’s another lightweight item that can be looped or worn loose (shown at bottom with AE Shoulder Zip Stripe Sweater).

Double Up

Look for items that can be worn more than one way. I love  wearing   a button front dress, top  or cardigan both frontward and backward. If you’ve never tried it, you’re  missing  out on a major wardrobe expansion opportunity!

My Pick:  AE Shimmer Sweatshirt and  AEO Skinny Belt in Barbie  Fuchsia

AE Shimmer Sweatshirt:  I styled it both frontward and backward on Christene. For both styles I included a scarf with hints of bright color to add dimension to the outfit and add a little warmth to the neckline…it is fall after-all.

AEO Skinny Belt:  For the frontward look, I added  AEO Skinny Belt in Barbie  Fuchsia to break up the look and define the waist a bit. I choose the longer skinny belt so I would have the option of wearing it in the jean’s belt loops for another look. Remember, double up.

Say Yes To Stripes

The key to making stripes work is to keep them thin and limit to above the waist. If you’re still feeling less than confident, pair a flowy scarf to help break up the  stripes  a bit.

My Picks:  AE Shoulder Zip Stripe Sweater and  AEO Ikat Loop Scarf

The stripe is so delicate and flattering…and see how we worked AEO  Skinny  Belt in Barbie Fuchsia into the mix!

Be Bootie-full

Fall prep is incomplete without a neutral, goes-with-everything ankle bootie. This Autumn staple works for  everything  from  skinny  jeans to bootcut denim…pencil skirts to maxi’s…and anything  else  you can dream up.

My Pick:  AEO Faux Snakeskin Bootie

So there you have it, my top picks to help jumpstart your Fall wardrobe. All of the items included are  incredibly  functional and really help to  expand  your  wardrobe options.

A Few Parting Tips

Before investing in a  wardrobe  update,  always:

Take inventory of your current  wardrobe…Decide what can transition into fall and what should go in the donation pile. From there it’s much easier to shop and fill in the  blanks  without  feeling  overwhelmed when you get to the mall.

Stick to the plan…If your Fall shopping list includes a great pair of jeans and a moto jacket, stay the course and do not allow yourself to buy  anything  else until you’ve purchased what you came for. While those 70% off vegan leather jeggings might seem  like  a bargain, if they’re not the item you specifically came to purchase, you’ll find yourself STILL in need of the items on your list–and with a lot less money to shop.

Budget accordingly…Have, at least, a mental picture of how much you want to spend. This will help curtail impulse buys and more  importantly,  buyer’s  remorse.
