I’ve been using eye creams and eye serums since I was 30 [read more about that here]. And in January of 2016, I’ll be 42. So that’s a cool 12 years of eye cream usage. And I’ve been writing about beauty for over 8 years — so it’s safe to say that my eye cream game is pretty darn strong.
While most women have mastered a daily routine of cleansing, treating and protecting their skin….many still struggle with the concept of incorporating an eye cream. It’s still thought of as something you don’t need until you get an AARP card. And, unfortunately, this line of thinking is flawed. According to a recent Olay study, skin around the eyes can age faster than the rest of the face….in some cases, up to 20 years ahead of your biological age. So let me break this down for you: If you start an eye cream at age 40, your eyes may already look 60! Whoa, deep breathes — I just threw a lot at you.
So here’s the thing. Don’t wait until you’re 40. I started when I was 30, and that has worked out for me. But here’s the advice I’d give my own daughter (who is currently 3 years old and already understands the importance of moisturizing her skin and tapping on product versus rubbing all aggressive like) — If you’re old enough to legally drink, you’re old enough to start using an eye cream. Don’t delay…and don’t let your friends tell you: “Oh, that’s for old ladies.” Girrrlllllll, just keep tapping on your eye cream every single day and every single night and when THEY turn 30, compare your eyes. Yup! They’ll be reeling — “OMG, look at my bags/lines/whatever!!!” And you’ll be all: *cruising*….WHY? Because you had the good sense to start early.
OLAY EYES COLLECTION
So I recently did a trial run of two Olay eye treatment products and I’d love to share my results with you.
For the last four weeks, I’ve used Olay Eyes Lifting Serum every morning and Olay Eyes Pro-Retinol Eye Treatment every night. And let me tell you a bit about my eye care needs at age 41….
Momma is tired. Like all the time. I’m never not tired. I’m tired to infinity. And sometimes it shows in my eyes. Also, because I am nearly 42, I do worry about drooping skin around my eyes. So when offered the opportunity to try one of the five treatment products in the Olay Eyes Collection, I chose two, LOL! — Olay Eyes Lifting Serum (because “lifting”) and Olay Eyes Pro-Retinol Eye Treatment (because I believe in the power of Retinol…it works!).
Here’s my truth after 4 weeks of using both:
OLAY EYES LIFTING SERUM
Olay Eyes Lifting Serum is the gift that keeps on giving. Not only does it tighten the corners of my eyes (where the droop tends to happen first) it also brightens my eye area with a sort of “golden hour” glow….or dare I say, ‘shimmer’? I’m always reluctant to use the word shimmer unless I’m talking about something glitzy, because as soon as you hear the word ‘shimmer’ your brain automatically thinks ‘disco ball’. But the shimmer in the serum is super subtle. And honestly, it’s a welcome boost to tired eyes if you have, well, tired eyes (which I do!).
OLAY EYES PRO RETINOL EYE TREATMENT
Olay Eyes Pro-Retinol Eye Treatment is what I like to call the Smooth Operator. It took four weeks to see the difference, but now the skin around my eyes is actually smoother than the rest of my face. I can really see it when I wash my face and it is freshly towel-dried. My eye area looks more youthful. When I smile, my expression lines aren’t as deep…and this is after just four weeks. In seeing such dramatic results so soon, I’ve decided to continue with Olay Eyes Pro-Retinol Eye Treatment until I finish the tube. And the same with Olay Eyes Lifting Serum. I’m not sure if I’m seeing such accelerated results because I’m using one product for day and the other for evening…but whatever it is, I’m going to keep the good times rolling. Oh, and I should add that In my four week trial, I didn’t experience any dryness or irritation…and I wear contact lenses so that’s saying a lot.
What I like most, in addition to the results (obvi!) is that both eye creams are extremely affordable at $24.99 each…proving that effective skin care doesn’t need to cost the same as a pair of designer jeans. When women ask me which eye cream is best, I always advise to start at the drugstore level and work your way up. And the Olay Eyes Collection is a great place to start. I choose two of the five formulas and had great success! I think you will too 🙂
Sponsored post. As always, opinions are 100% my own. Thank you for supporting the brands that help make ThisThatBeauty possible.
I’m always on the lookout for eye creams because I’m getting crepey around the eyes. Hydration seems to be where most eye creams come up short for me so I generally use a serum/lotion first, then a thicker cream like Bobbi Brown Extra Eye Repair.
I agree that hydration is key!
Thanks for the tips!
Ooooh I hope that Olaz eye cream comes to Switzerland, haven’t seen it around yet.
Fingers crossed!
