New York Fashion Week: Makeup for Clover Canyon Spring 2014 Collection

THE DESIGNER INSPIRATION:

This season, Clover Canyon rediscovers Southern California, looking on its native landscape with new eyes, and indulging the domestic pleasures. Clean, crisp and airy, the collection conjures the forward-looking architecture and design of California’s mid century heyday, referencing homes such as John Lautner’s iconic Chemosphere, in Los Angeles, and the work of household modernists Charles and Ray Eames. Southern California’s legendary light is paid homage prismatically, via the inspiration of light artists such as Robert Irwin, Dan Flavin, and James Turrell.

THE MAKEUP LOOK INSPIRATION:

The makeup look for Clover Canyon is based on artist James Turrell’s use of light and space. To achieve a look of overall luminosity, makeup artist Deanna Melluso mixed  Kevyn Aucoin The Loose Shimmer Shadow in Kunzite with The Creamy Glow in Tansoleil, applying to cheek bones and the bridge of the nose to create a sparkling luminescence on the face.  Melluso  used Kevyn Aucoin The Flesh Tone Lip Pencil on the eyes as an eyeliner to make the eyes pop in a soft, diffused way.  For the lips, Melluso applied Kevyn Aucoin The Matte Lip Color in Timeless with her ring finger and then applied The Lip Gloss in  Regina to the center of the lips over the lipstick to add the effect of light.  When the whole look comes together it gives off an essence of radiant dimensional space.

GET THE LOOK:  

FACE:

1. Start with moisturized skin.  
2. Apply The Sensual Tinted Balm
3. The Sensual Skin Enhancer
4. Apply The Creamy Glow in Tansoleil on the cheeks and side of the eye socket almost into the hair line.
5. Apply The Loose Shimmer Shadow in Kunzite over the cheekbones and down bridge of nose (NEW for Spring 2014)
6. Apply a second layer of Tansoleil onto cheeks.

EYES:

1. Apply The Loose Powder lightly all over lid
2. Apply The Flesh Tone Lip Pencil in Peche (NEW for Spring 2014) Start on outer eye and work your way inward.  
3. Coat lashes in The Essential Mascara

LIPS:

1. Apply The Matte Lip Color in Timeless with fingers and press into lips
2. Apply The Lip Gloss in Reynain to the center on the lips.
