I love a glowy, fresh complexion as much as the next gal, but there is a fine line between dewy and oily. And that fine line is called powder. The right powder can enhance a foundation’s finish and allow skin to still glow, and the wrong powder can just be downright awful. I have tried a TON over the years and can say that I have successfully found 4 setting powders for oily skin that I love. Typically I don’t apply them over my entire face, just down my t-zone and they help to give me a gorgeous natural matte, or even a natural velvet-y finish while still allowing the properties of my foundation to show through.
La Mer The Powder
At first sight, I did not think this was going to keep me very matte since there is a finely milled shimmer that runs through the entire powder. Well joke is on me, because not only does it keep me matte, it does that rare thing of making me look radiant without any shine. I’ve read reviews that state it makes pores look like they have disappeared, and I can’t agree more. I use the powder puff it comes with and press and roll it in my skin after my foundation and it gives the most beautiful airbrushed finish. It can add just a touch of color to my face, so I often make sure I use this with a lighter foundation to counteract any oxidizing that may occur. Available at Nordstrom for $65.00.
By Terry Hyaluronic Hydra Powder
This is the equivalent of one of my heavy duty mattifying primers – it’s THAT good. But what is so exceptional and unique about this product is that it’s suitable for any skin type, it’s not just a setting powder for oily skin. Designed to be a powder that conceals, corrects and protects the skin, it gives an invisible matte finish while helping to correct imperfections. And when I tell you I can get a full 12 hours of wear out of this powder, I am not kidding. It is truly my mattifying miracle. Available at SpaceNK for $60.00.
Laura Mercier Invisible Loose Setting Powder
This was the first loose powder I ever fell in love with after one use. Laura Mercier is the master of the flawless face and this invisible loose setting powder is a tribute to that. Suitable for any skin tone from fair to dark, this delicate yet effective loose powder helps to give a smooth matte finish to the skin. And utilizing Laura’s recommended ‘press and roll’ method when applying makes all the difference. Simply dab the powder puff lightly into the powder and then press the powder onto the face and roll it into the skin. While I have tried using it with a large powder brush, I find this to be the most effective way to apply. Available at Sephora for $37.00.
Laura Mercier Invisible Pressed Setting Powder
While I do prefer a loose powder for setting my makeup, it is quite impractical to carry around. I have tried blotting sheets and various pressed powders, but this pressed version of Laura Mercier’s iconic Invisible Powder is my all-time favorite. It immediately takes away any shine without adding additional product to the skin or altering the color of my makeup. It comes with a mini powder puff in a compartment underneath the powder so a quick press and roll throughout my t-zone helps to immediately mattify and remove any shine. Available at Sephora for $34.00.

The Laura Mercier Setting Powder is fantastic!!! I like to use the Make Up For Ever powder as well, especially in my t-zone.
