TTBFaves with Christene: Best of Beauty 2014

If I had to define 2014 by beauty or cosmetic product I would have to say it was the year of the lipstick. In 2014 I resolved to wear more lipstick and that I did. While reaching for multiple lipsticks was a conscious thing, the other products on my Best of Beauty of 2014 list came to be including based only on their performance and my subsequent love of them. To write this post I checked my list of empties, repurchases and products that showed serious signs of use. Here is my list of Best of Beauty Picks for 2014.

Best of Beauty 2014 - Christene Carr 1

Milani Rose Powder Blush in Coral Cove –  Is a versatile matte blush that was launched as part of a limited edition collection. It’s a creamy kind of powder that can be applied sheer or built up for a more intense look. I wore this blush consistently in 2014 and will continue to do so this year for sure. $7.99

Too Faced Chocolate Bar Palette  is  my favorite nude palette — It’s versatile and smells amazing. Few makeup looks I wear call for more than this.  See more here.  $49

Tom Ford Cream Shadow in Spice  is seriously one of the creamiest eye shadows I’ve ever used. It adds just the right amount of light shimmer to my lid or built up to create a metallic molten look. I always use it with a lid primer and set either with a loose powder or another shadow. $40

CC+ Lip Serum Hydrating Anti-Aging Color Correcting Crème Gloss  –  When I wasn’t busy rocking lipsticks I was most   likely wearing this gloss.   It does some color correction and provides just the perfect amount of moisture.  $24

Lipstick Queen Made It    is a full coverage dark plum lipstick that goes on like a balm but wears like a lipstick.  See review  here.  $50

Jane Satin Split Stick in Rockin Red     goes on creamy but dries down ever so slightly which gives it a longer wear.  It’s one lipstick that can give three looks.  $8

Guerlain Kiss Kiss in Red Passion  â€“ a nice lightweight gentle red that feels like a balm but wears like a lipstick.  $37

Sephora Lip Stain in Always Red   – a matte bold classic red lipstick that goes on as a cream and dries down matte for super long wear.  $13

Guerlain La Base Protectrice –  My manicures always start with a base coat – it’s a milky color,  not clear like other base coats and it does and amazing job of preventing nails from getting yellow.  $25

Jinsoon Top Coat –  My manicure game for 2014 was serious.   I completely used up two Jinsoon topcoats.   They extend the wear of my manicure and keep nails looking shiny and fresh.   $18

Milani Color Statement Quick Dry Topcoat –  cuts  nail polish drying time in about half but has less shrinkage than other popular quick dry top coats.  It also helps that it’s only $4.99.

Lancer The Method Body Nourish Creme –  I’m on my third jar since starting it last year. In a word — AMAZING! See review here. $55

Dark and Lovely Au naturale Tension Release Hair Wash –  Provides a deep down foaming clean without leaving hair feeling stripped and shrunken.    $9.99

Aphogee Keratin 2 Minute Reconstructor  –  I noticed a difference in my hair after one use.   My hair shedding stopped almost immediately.   Be sure to follow up with a deep conditioner.   I’d recommend it for use about once every 2-3 months. Keep it in the hair for no more than the recommended two minutes. $13

Nuance Salma Hayek Healthy Shine Nourishing Oil  – is a silicone based oil that contains argan, coconut and other botanical oils   and provides the perfect amount of moisture and some slip when used on my natural hair.   It also works well during blow drying and heat styling and is lightweight enough to tame frizziness without weighing down my hair. $9.99

YSL Splendid Wood –  uses several wood notes with an oriental influence.  It wears for hours and the drydown is even more intoxicating than when it’s first sprayed. $250

Clique  by Roble –  starts out with very prominent citrus notes and ends with chocolate and cinnamon.   Layer it with the highly moisturizing Clique by Roble Body Butter and you will smell delicious all day long. $59.50

Best of Beauty 2014 - Christene Carr 3

Chantecaille Rose de Mai Cream  –  When I first applied the Rose de Mai Cream I was wowed.  It is super light and it feels like nothing on the face. But after about a week i notice a difference in my skin and about half way through the jar my skin was definitely brighter and more supply.   During the day I use it then apply sunscreen and at night I apply and sometimes follow with the Boscia Tsubaki Beauty Oil. $210

Cleanse by Lauren Napier –  Moisturizing cleansing wipes that contains aloe, cucumber   as well as vitamins B and C. The wipes are individually packaged making them perfect for travel. They work great to remove even waterproof makeup but they are gentle enough for eyes.   $24

Boscia Tsubaki Beauty Oil  –  Getting through a 1.7 ounce bottle of face oil is no small feat, especially when you consider that i’m constantly testing other products. Boscia Tsubaki Beauty Oil contains several botanical oils that firm, hydrate, tone and promote micro circulation for glowing skin. It is perfect to use alone on damp skin or layer under your favorite moisturizer. $46

Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant  is a rice-based powder formula that activates with water to release Papain, Salicylic Acid and Rice Enzymes  to gentle cleanse and exfoliate the skin.  $52

Clarins Double Serum –  Clarins Double Serum contains 20 pure plant extracts and potent, high-tech molecules in a dual chamber bottle.  It firms and evens skin tone and  provides a great moisture boost without feeling heavy.  Clarins Double Serum    is great for use day and night. $87

There you have it, my Best of Beauty 2014 picks.
