ThisThatBeauty Reviews: Super Smile Whitening Toothpaste

I hardly give much thought to toothpaste. I just know know that certain brands of whitening toothpaste peel the inside of my lips, irritate my gums and leaves my mouth feeling sore. So, even though I had 13 tubes (I counted) of Supersmile Professional Whitening Toothpaste that I received from various press events, I never used them.

A week ago I ran out of my regular toothpaste and gave Supersmile a swirl. I was very pleasantly surprised by the results.   I don’t think I had ever felt my teeth so clean — just from brushing!

The difference in result was so stark that I immediately compared ingredients from my regular brand to that of Super Smile. Along with fluoride, one of the active ingredients in my regular brand is actually a pesticide and fungicide called Triclosan, something I had not paid attention to before now.   The active ingredient in Supersmile Professional Whitening Toothpaste is Sodium Monofluorophosphate and among other things, contains Calprox. Calprox is Supersmile’s patented whitening system that contains calcium, peroxide, baking soda and about 13 other ingredients. (Considering I discovered that Triclosan is in my toothpaste, I really want to know about the other thirteen ingredients in Calprox.)

The dirty feeling we get on our teeth is from protein pellicle that forms over our teeth and attracting stains and causing discoloration, Calprox works by breaking down the layer of protein allowing us to brush away food particles and surface stains. (I should note here that I have not been using Supersmile long enough to give a review of its efficacy at whitening.   This is simply about the amazingly clean feeling I got from using it.)

Supersmile Professional Whitening Toothpaste comes in cinnamon, green apple, icy mint, original mint and my overall favorite, mandarin mint. Find your favorite, it is definitely worth it.

SuperSmile’s main ingredient for whitening is nothing more than hydrogen peroxide. Buy a bottle and rinse. Much cheaper!

Thanks for stopping by, Georgia. I do sometimes rinse with diluted hydrogen peroxide but it doesn’t do anything to help my teeth feel cleaner. In the post I was talking about the feeling of clean that I get from supersmile, not about the whitening capabilities. What toothpaste do you use?
