ThisThatBeauty Reviews: Dolce and Gabbana Brow Liner

Very few people know that I have a minor obsession with my brows. I have been shaping them since before I was a teenager (10 years old to be exact) and I never get them done professionally because I just don’t trust that anyone will do them to my satisfaction. My brows have always been sparse, so, a brow filler is a must. Because I’ve been using brow pencils for so long, I consider myself an expert (If only in my own mind). Recently I took Dolce and Gabbana’s new brow liner for a spin, here are my thoughts.

The Dolce and Gabbana Brow Liner is available in four colors:

  • Soft Brown – a copper toned brown shade
  • Chestnut – a rich chocolate shade
  • Mocha – a warm brown shade
  • Stromboli – a deep grey brown shade

On one end, the pencil is mechanical with an angled tip for precise application. On the other end, there is a spiral grooming brush to help blend brow hairs and balance out any look.

I liked the angled tip of the pencil because it seems a more intuitive design for a brow pencil and it made filling in the spaces between my sparse brow easier. I used chestnut and the color payoff was not very dark on my skin but with repeated soft strokes I was able to get the desired look. Using the spiral brush after filling in my brows softened my brows and made them look more natural. This is a step I sometimes skip because I don’t have a spiral brush handy and I’m too lazy to search for one. My one complaint with this pencil is that it oxidized and got darker after I was wearing it for few hours.  The pencil is formulated for long wear and can last up to 12 hours so I wasn’t expecting any noticeable change.

To be completely honest, my go-to brow pencil right now costa 99 cents but that’s not where I started…however, when I figured out that by adding a little lid primer in my brows I could get any pencil to wear longer, I stuck with my 99 cent purchase. While the variety of colors, angled pencil tip and handy spiral brush all make this a great brow pencil, with a price tag of $45 it is still no match for my frugal 99 cent purchase. However, if luxury brow pencils are your thing, go for it!
