This That Beauty Workout and Intro to #TTBFitLife

Have you been keeping up with the ThisThatBeauty ladies (@ThisThatBeauty & @ChristeneCarr) via social media?

If you haven’t, then you have been missing out on our #runlife and #letsmove posts and pictures. We are committed to #NoTShirtOnTheBeach status but that doesn’t mean we go about this any ol’ kind of way. We infuse our everyday beauty principles into our outdoor (and indoor) runs & workouts.

The first thing we think about is sun protection. While we want to be fit and healthy, we also want to keep our skin free of dark spots and wrinkles for as long as possible. With that said let’s talk SPF:

How much sunscreen should you use? This much!

SPF for Face

Dermalogica Oil Free Matte SPF 30 – Great for oily and acne prone skin (Felicia’s current fave). See image for a recommendation on how much moisturizer to use for face and neck.

Mario Badescu Oil Free Moisturizer with SPF 30 – Perfect for daily use…it does not clog pores and applies seamlessly (Christene’s fav for over a year!)

Neutrogena Wet Skin Sunblock Spray with SPF 50 (Christene’s fav for body) -Spray in hand and rub on face and neck after Mario Badescu Moisturizer with SPF 30 or Dermalogica Oil Free Matte SPF 30.

Aveeno Continuous Protection with SPF 30 Felicia fav for all over body…even back of hands.

Lips

Neutrogena Norwegian Formula Lip Balm with SPF 15 – This is currently a freebie with purchase of Wet Skin Sunblock Spray. . . not sure how long that deal will last.

Rimmel Moisture Renew Cream Lipgloss with SPF 15 – Christene’s fav for looking cute while swaeting…ha!

[If you think we’re doing too much, keep reading :)] . . . . . .

Eyes

La Prairie Anti Aging Eye Cream with SPF 15 – In addition to UV protection, this helps prevent moisture loss and repairs damage in the delicate area around the eyes.

C9 by Champion Visor – This serves two purposes, 1) added protection for your face and eyes and 2) catches sweat before it reaches eyes. (Don’t forget that you have to wash your visor occasionally)

Sunglasses with UV protection – Make sure not to wear anything that hugs your cheeks because if you sweat as much as we do, it will end badly.

Felicia in short running shorts applying sunscreen.

For Body

Aveeno Hydrosport Sunblock Spray with SPF 50 – If you want to use this on your face over your moisturizer you should spray it in your hand then apply to face and neck.

Neutrogena Wet Skin Sunblock Spray with SPF 50 – We really love this because it can be sprayed onto wet skin, rub it in and we’re good to go!

On a recent run it was so hot that we decided it was time for short shorts. Fast forward five minutes and we were both like “hmmm, but our legs aren’t ready for alllll that.” However, our commitment to #runlife dictated that we find a way to be comfortable in our short shorts because if we wanted to keep running, the shorts had to be a part of the deal. Enter the self tanners and bronzers. Yes, brown girls do self tan and bronze and here are our favorite products.

Dr Dennis Grossman’s Alpha Beta Glow Pad with Vitamin D. These bad boys develop in about an hour. “Microencapsulated DHA and soy proteins deliver odorless, streak free color deep into skin to prevent fading through surface exfoliation.” Felicia likes to use them on her legs the night before so she is all set by run time. This product can be used on body and face. Please note that this product does not contain SPF. The golden glow quickly camouflages the appearance of ridges, bumps, and lumps. . . it does for legs what foundation does for your face. Get it? …now “get it!”

Shopping for SPF Products at Target

Jergens Natural Glow Daily Moisturizer is formulated especially for medium to tan skin tones and reaches optimal intensity of color after about a week of continuous use (just about the amount of time you need to talk yourself into short, short running shorts.) This is Christene’s pick because it also has SPF. For best results when using self tanners, exfoliate before your first use…we like Kate Somerville Exfoli-Kate.

This might all sound like a lot just to wear short shorts for a run but think about how awesome your legs will look in that sun dress, bathing suit or any other leg baring garment, too? Thank us later!

Moving right along to clothing…

While we’re still a little stuck on buying workout gear exclusively at Marshall’s, we popped into Target and picked up C9 by Champion Running Shorts. They are made of breathable, moisture wicking fabric that is machine washable. The lining also offers a bit of support. On top, if you are like Christene, any sports bra will do with a white cotton tank top or t-shirt. If you need a bit more support (like Felicia) grab a sports bra and throw on a light colored T-shirt or tank top (to reflect the sun and help keep you cool).

Felicia’s favorite workout fragrance

We generally workout outdoors so bug protection is also a concern. We’re never without SKIN SO SOFT Bug Guard Plus Picaridin Towelettes. They protect against mosquitoes and gnats. . . all in a handy little wipe. Just apply and toss. Super convenient and quite discreet for workouts, and outdoor summer activities. And best of all…the scent isn’t gross like most bug sprays!

We are not always brimming with excitement about working out (gasp!). We find that using a fragrance everyday has a way of energizing us and reminding us of the awesome day we had before. La Prairie Cellular Energizing Body Spray (Felicia’s fav), is a mix of Rudy Red Grapefruit, Cardamon and Verbena. Christene is still crushing on Glorious Mandarin from Gucci Flora Garden Collection, that has notes of Mandarin, Peony, Jasmine, ambergris, white musk, creamy wood and pina colada accord. If you are looking to find your own workout fragrance try something with citrus, you will definitely get a boost.

There you have it folks, a run down of how we work on our fitness at TTB. We do recognize that the average person might not have time for all this, but for us, it’s a breeze. The one thing that is non-negotiable in this whole run down is the SPF (I bet you thought it was clothing). Sunscreen is an absolute must 365 days per year, no matter your skin tone. Get busy, beauties, because there will be #NoTShirtOnTheBeach. Starting today, we will post all workout updates with our own unique hashtag, #TTBFitLife. Join us!

  • I am guilty of only wearing sunscreen in the warmer months but I will make an effort to wear it during the colder months. I just hate how greasy it makes my skin.
