I must admit, I love my life as a Blogger. In addition to writing ThisThatBeauty (my baby!), I get to work on some rather cool projects with some of my favorite fashion & beauty brands. If you follow me on Instagram (and I’m certain you do) you know that I’m a total Madewell Girl. . . I practically live in the store at The Mall at Short Hills. So when Birchbox (a fave beauty destination!) and Madewell asked me to participate in the BIRCHBOX + MADEWELL Spring Style Experience — I quickly replied ‘YES‘.

Though it’s yet to actually feel like Spring (brrr…but soon!) BIRCHBOX + MADEWELL have partnered to celebrate the launch of Madewell’s spring collection. I was invited to create my own “How to Be a Madewell Girl” look with clothing from Madewell’s spring collection and the latest beauty products from Birchbox.com.

My BIRCHBOX + MADEWELL Spring Style Experience shoot begins…

We continue our spring trendspotting with N.Y.C. New York Color. The Frugalista Friendly drugstore brand has recently launched Shock Value, a limited edition collection of punchy colors for lips, eyes, cheeks, and nails. “Shock Value” encourages you to give up your old makeup routine and shake things up with flamingo pink lips, bold purple liner, and citrus nails. With a collection that’s affordably priced from $1.99 to $3.99, my advice is to throw caution to the wind and live a little. Go on…liven up those lips, add some spark to your eyes, pop those cheeks, and light up your nails. Spring has sprung!

For the first time in ten years L’Occitane unveils a brand spanking new make-up collection that draws inspiration from the peony. To accompany the color collection, the beauty brand collaborated with French nurseryman, Jean-Luc Rivière, to create a peony focused scent. All of the fragrance and make-up products in the collection are infused with the scent of peony.

Paeonia Eau de Toilette boasts top notes of bergamot and grapefruit, heart of peony and rose, and a base of sandalwood and white musk.

The complete fragrance collection includes:

  • Paeonia Intense Eau de Toilette Roll-on, a concentrated version of the scent for on-the-go use
  • Beauty Milk enriched with grape seed oil, shea butter and peony extract
  • Shower Cream enriched with shea butter and peony extract
  • Petal Soap in the shape of an opening peony bud
  • Limited-edition Beauty Powder an ultra-fine fragrant powder with iridescent shimmer finish

The full, limited-edition makeup collection includes:

  • Peony illuminating powder
  • Peony healthy glow face powder
  • Peony face color powder in four shades
  • Peony face color powder duo in three shades
  • Peony lipstick in four shades
  • Peony liquid shine lip color in four shades
  • Peony lip balm
  • Peony Tinted Water

Wow! After ten years L’Occitane brings you color. Who’s adding this to the Spring makeup budget?

Smashbox’s spring 2010 color collection, Heartbreaker, is a fun and flirty offering that is filled with bold and vibrant spring shades. This is precisely the energizing jolt of Spring makeup you seek after a cold dreary winter of subdued tones. Heartbreaker (which makes me hum this lil ditty by everyone’s favorite Meltdown Diva) embodies trends and looks that I wholeheartedly welcome when the weather breaks. Spring time encourages makeup risk taking….have at it with a pop of bursting color, soft washes of shimmery shades, slick lips, and flushed cheeks.

Heartbreaker is tastefully youthful….pouts painted in glossy hot pink….lilac and ballet pink shadow softly frame the eyes….Pretty pink shimmer powder creates a warm glow.

The collection flaunts a diverse color palette with a rich assortment of shades. Bright azure, mint, hot pink and deep violet colors balance out warm tones like chestnut, champagne and charcoal. Pinks, coral orange, berry and beige are main focus for plump kissable lips.

The full collection rundown:

  • Eye Shadow Palette: Two new palettes featuring six shades: Hot Date (crème brulee, shimmering chestnut, champagne, shimmering azure, mint and taupe) and Kiss n’ Tell (ballet pink, hot pink, icy white, deep violet, charcoal and peony)
  • Fusion Soft Lights: A color wheel of shimmering powders arriving in pinks and neutrals in one shade suits all, Baked Starlight
  • Liquid Liner Pen: Liquid eyeliner pen in Jet Black
  • Lip Shine: Two new lip formulations in Berry Hot, a berry pink and Melon-Drama, a coral orange
  • Roller Gloss: A new roll-on lip gloss in Pink Sugar, a glittery pale pink

This collection screams “spring makeup investment”, so start stacking your chips. Heartbreaker is money well spent, for reals.

Earlier this year I reported on the “bib necklace” as one of Spring/Summer’s hottest trends. In the post I mentioned that I got my first taste of the bib necklace about a year prior to the official trendspotting for Spring/Summer 2009.

When I purchased my JCrew bib necklace in early 2008, it pretty much sat in my jewelry box. I whipped it out once while on vacation in China in March 2008 but other than that, the necklace went unworn.

Fast forward a year and I can barely go three days without rocking my trusty true blue bead bib necklace. I’ve worn it so much since the start of Spring that someone, who shall remain nameless, has threatened to burn it if I’m caught wearing it again. I’m sorry but I can’t help it. My fun blue bib necklace perfectly punctuates just about every outfit.

As I was going through pictures of makeup looks for ThisThatBeauty posts, I couldn’t help but notice how hard my poor little blue bib necklace has been working….which begs the question, am I playing myself?

ThisThatBeauty universe – I want your opinion. Check out my bib necklace picture montage below and let me know your thoughts.

Ladies and gents, please give it up for:
“The Hardest Working Necklace In My Jewelry Box”
(HELP!!!! I CANT STOP wearing it!!!)

Have I run my poor little necklace in to the ground?
Do I continue to PUMP IT or DUMP IT?
Please ladies, I need your advice.

That’s right chickadees, this Spring is all about the Boyfriend!

No, I’m not talking about stepping out on your boo with a young tender-roni on the side. I’m talking about:
    • Loose tees
    • Boxy jackets
    • and Rolled-up Jeans
Ms ThisThatBeauty is in full embrace of said trend. I love the Boyfriend! It was especially cool the last time around in 19_ _ (* exact year withheld for fear you’ll no longer think I’m 19:))
Anyhoo, all’s you need to know is that Boyfriend is a trend you can believe in. I love dusting off something old and making it new again. The light colored jeans I’m rocking in the pics below were like my first 7 For All Mankind jeans ever, somewhere around 1999 or the year 2000. I may have actually paid full price (something I NEVER EVER do anymore).
    Moral of the story –
It all comes back! Invest in good threads and you too can look uber fab when the trend rolls back around….
Rockin‘ the Boyfriend jean with flats..

    Rockin‘ the Boyfriends with heels.
Also doing the Skinny Boyfriend with heels
(just one roll on the skinny jeans, please!).

Which Spring trends are you embracing?

If you’re anything like me (and I know your are:)), you’re hard at work building up your Spring makeup arsenal. I love the idea of changing seasons and updating my makeup. For fall and winter I tend to gravitate towards lipsticks and stains.  But for summer and spring, I love flirty glosses!!!

Armour Beauty offers a beautiful collection of sheer and opaque glosses. For fall, I was huge fan of Last Dance and After Hours. But for Spring I’m switching it up.

So for today’s installment of “ThisThatBeauty Pops Lip: Colour du Jour“, I’m riding out with “cat club”.

While the entire Amour Beauty line is to die for, “cat club” is simply perfect for Spring. What say you? We like? Let me know! Leave a comment :)

According to the uber fashionable online resource, WHOWHATWEARdaily….
Bib Necklaces are all the rage for Spring.

Well HOT DAMN…this means I am totally dusting off this little friend to the right —> (JCrew Bauble Cascade Necklace) from last year just as soon as the weather breaks. Who knew I was so ahead of my time :)

        Accessory Report: Bib Necklaces

Though it has a rather infantile name, celebrities and tastemakers alike are going gaga for a decidedly grown-up accessory: the bib necklace. As we mentioned in Looking Forward To: Spring Trends, this key piece of jewelry had a major presence in the season’s shows. Now much-discussed fashionphiles like Natalia Vodianova and Mischa Barton [and Felicia Walker Benson…tee hee] are translating that runway look into their real-life style and are opting for everything from baby bibs to full-blown breastplates!

And here I am, setting the trend in Beijing last year :)
