spring makeup

I wore my fair share of makeup during winter, even when I really wasn’t leaving the house. As a blogger, it’s just what you do…i’m not ashamed. Now that Spring is here I am looking forward to letting my skin shine through and only use products to give me a kind of ‘effortless’ beauty.  By effortless I mean it shouldn’t take more than 15 minutes and 5 products. This is where the Jane Iredale Country Living collection comes in.

Jane Iredale Country Weekend

The Jane Iredale Country Living collection is a very tightly edited and the name is so very appropriate. It features 3 color products that when combined, gives you a polished, pulled together look that is relaxed and easygoing.

Jane Iredale Country Weekend Lips and Cheek Stain

I love a good multipurpose product, so,  Forever Peach Just Kissed Lip & Cheek Stain ($25)  is  my favorite item in the collection. It’s a sheer “non-drying, long-lasting, all natural stain  that adjusts to your own chemistry for an irresistible peach shade that will flatter your skin’s undertone.”  I have it in my gym bag now so after a workout when I have errands, I can apply sunscreen and add a little to my lips and my cheeks.

Jane Iredale Country Weekend Shadow
Jane Iredale Country Weekend Getaway Shadow Palette

The Getaway Eyeshadow Palette  ($58) is inspired by tranquil country landscapes and has 5 shades set in a sleek, super lightweight compact. Though all the shades are pigmented, the ones I wear most are the bronze/gold and the shimmery black (top and bottom right).

The Espresso Jelly Jar Gel Eyeliner ($28) is another favorite because I can use it as a liner but also as a shadow.  As a liner I have to layer it to have it show up on my dark skin but as a shadow, I can smear it on and quickly blend for long lasting water resistant wear. I highly recommend using a lid primer with both shadow and liner.

Jane Iredale Country Weekend - Eyes and Lips

In the picture above I’m wearing my two favorite colors from the shadow palette, the Gel Liner and the Lip stain.  The collection is really all the color you need for a nice country weekend or any day you want an easy,  laid back makeup look.

What would spring be without a new, vibrant and colorful collection from MAC? They do new collections like no one else and can get you hyped for a new season (though it is a tad easier to be excited for Spring while currently suffering through snowstorm after snowstorm, ugh).  The shades in their new A Fantasy of Flowers Collection, is a mix of pastel pigments, luminous glosses, pops of color from vivid nail lacquers and liners. Quite a large collection, there is truly something for everyone in this mix.

 MAC Fantasy of Flowers

I had a ton of favorite pieces from this launch, and it was as if every product I tried was better than the last.  Between the Mineralize Skin Finishes and the Mineralize Blushes – my cheeks were glowing and flawless.  I love the quad style Mineralize eye shadows and naturally was drawn to the shade Great Beyond because it was so wearable with its neutral brown/plum tones.  The Fluidline liners blew my mind with their vibrancy and would be an amazing accent for a fun night out or weekend look.  The Cremesheen Lipglasses are always a favorite of mine because they wear like the typical MAC Lipglass but without all the tackiness that causes my hair to be permanently attached to my lips on windy days.  Here is a look at a few of my stand out winners from the collection:

If you follow me on Instagram (and I’m certain you do) you know that I’m a total Madewell Girl. . . I practically live in the store at The Mall at Short Hills. So when Birchbox (a fave beauty destination!) and Madewell asked me to participate in the BIRCHBOX + MADEWELL Spring Style Experience — I quickly replied ‘YES‘.

Though it’s yet to actually feel like Spring (brrr…but soon!) BIRCHBOX + MADEWELL have partnered to celebrate the launch of Madewell’s spring collection. I was invited to create my own “How to Be a Madewell Girl” look with clothing from Madewell’s spring collection and the latest beauty products from Birchbox.com.

Dr. Hauschka’s Limited Edition Spring makeup collection combines pale nude shades with darker shades to help create looks from sultry and dramatic to natural and effortless.

Dear Eyes Eyeshadow Trio

The shadows are formulated with silk and talc powder to allow smooth application and contains plant extracts, anthyllis and black tea to nurture and support the delicate skin around the eyes. I almost always use a brown/nude palette with hints of bronze or gold, so, this palette with hints of pink gives me a nice change of pace. The brown and rose/pink shades are flat and the beige shade has a bit of shimmer, perfect for highlighting the brow and inner eye. If you buy one basic brown/nude palette this spring, this is a good option because it will work on all skin tones and fits nicely into any makeup bag. $39.95

Black Volume Mascara

The mascara goes on a bit more wet than I would like but it does a good job of lengthening and filling out my very sparse lashes.  For best results, I wait about 30 seconds between coats and apply two to three coats. All Dr. Hauschka makeup products contain ingredients to nourish and improve the area to which they are applied. This mascara is made with beeswax, candelilla and rose waxes and contains neem leaf to strengthen lashes. $29.95

Black Eyeliner with Smudger

There is black eyeliner then there is Dr.Hauschka black eyeliner that is formulated with quince, black tea, jojoba, carnauba waxes and combined mineral pigments. I love nothing more than a quick black rimmed eye and with this I feel more comfortable knowing that my liner is formulated with some wholesome ingredients that will improve the area around my eyes.  This eyeliner is not jet black, it is more of a soft black. $17.95

Brushes

The Eyeshadow Blender Brush ($27.95) and Eye Definer Brush ($22.95) are carefully crafted  from natural hair and can be used for easy,  precise and effortless eyeshadow application.

Beginning March 2013, all products will be available at drhauschka.com

Wow! After ten years L’Occitane brings you color. Who’s adding this to the Spring makeup budget?

Smashbox’s spring 2010 color collection, Heartbreaker, is a fun and flirty offering that is filled with bold and vibrant spring shades. This is precisely the energizing jolt of Spring makeup you seek after a cold dreary winter of subdued tones. Heartbreaker (which makes me hum this lil ditty by everyone’s favorite Meltdown Diva) embodies trends and looks that I wholeheartedly welcome when the weather breaks. Spring time encourages makeup risk taking….have at it with a pop of bursting color, soft washes of shimmery shades, slick lips, and flushed cheeks.

Heartbreaker is tastefully youthful….pouts painted in glossy hot pink….lilac and ballet pink shadow softly frame the eyes….Pretty pink shimmer powder creates a warm glow.

The collection flaunts a diverse color palette with a rich assortment of shades. Bright azure, mint, hot pink and deep violet colors balance out warm tones like chestnut, champagne and charcoal. Pinks, coral orange, berry and beige are main focus for plump kissable lips.

The full collection rundown:

  • Eye Shadow Palette: Two new palettes featuring six shades: Hot Date (crème brulee, shimmering chestnut, champagne, shimmering azure, mint and taupe) and Kiss n’ Tell (ballet pink, hot pink, icy white, deep violet, charcoal and peony)
  • Fusion Soft Lights: A color wheel of shimmering powders arriving in pinks and neutrals in one shade suits all, Baked Starlight
  • Liquid Liner Pen: Liquid eyeliner pen in Jet Black
  • Lip Shine: Two new lip formulations in Berry Hot, a berry pink and Melon-Drama, a coral orange
  • Roller Gloss: A new roll-on lip gloss in Pink Sugar, a glittery pale pink

This collection screams “spring makeup investment”, so start stacking your chips. Heartbreaker is money well spent, for reals.

This spring Estée Lauder has collaborated with American fashion designer Michael Kors to bring out the Very Hollywood collection, inspired by the glamorous world of Hollywood.

“The inspiration for the Estée Lauder Michael Kors Very Hollywood Color Collection is iconic Hollywood glamour, both past and present, interpreted for everyday life,” Michael Kors explained. The look reflects the timeless beauty of the Estée Lauder company and Kor’s modern fashion style, resulting in a contemporary American beauty image.

There are two key looks in the collection:
Bel Air Beige: a colour palette consisting of beige and coral tones with a sexy smoky eye and shimmery peach lips and cheeks
Rodeo Pink: a defined eye with vibrant raspberry tones of bright, bold lips and cheeks

Flawless skin with a satiny finish is important for both looks. A modern, classic colour palette that reflects the glamour of Hollywood. Lips shine in honey blondes or rose pinks while sparkling gold, beige, peach, vivid raspberry and coral tones make up the rest of the colour wheel.

Clarins’ spring make-up collection, Cotton Flower, is based on white and denim blue tones to create a fresh and pretty modern look.”This spring we’ve focused on two key trends, crisp white cotton and denim blue. It’s a combination that has a fresh, elegant, simplicity especially with white taking the starring role,” explained Thibault Vabre, Clarins artistic director.

A contemporary look with softly smoky blue diffused all over the eyes and highlighted with white on the inner corners for a striking appearance. The use of blue in the collection is soft and romantic. The eyes beautifully balance sensual, shiny lips coated in rose pink. The harmony of the lips and eyes stand out against a satiny finish complexion.

Cotton Flower introduces a strong color palette of blue, lilac, violet, indigo and white hues on the eyes to create a high impact look. Pink is key for lips. The collections boasts caramel rose, sparkling pink and deep blue-toned rose.

Products in the collection:

Chanel 2010 Spring Colour Collection – LES IMPRESSIONS DES CHANEL

Inspired by marks and imprints left behind during the life of Mademoiselle Coco Chanel, Peter Philips, global creative director of Chanel make-up, has created a timeless collection capturing the brand’s elegant signature style and classic allure.

From an imprint of Gabrielle Chanel’s hand on a sheet of paper to various representations of her portrait, morsels of her timeline have been infused into the new range to portray a look of gentle illumination and soft eyes. Femininity is celebrated with a fresh complexion and highlighted cheekbones in a look that encompasses all that Mademoiselle Chanel represented.

The palette pays most notable homage to beige – the shade of choice in so many of Coco Chanel’s clothing lines. Natural, muted shades arrive on the lips in delicate daubs of pink and brown, while eyes are subtly emphasised in metallic plum, satin vanilla and caramel.

  • Empreinte de Chanel: A pearly face powder made up of rosewood, beige and brown tones with a pearly gold double C imprint
  • Joues Contraste: A delicate rosewood-coloured powder blusher in Imprévu
