My new found love for red lipstick cannot be contained. When it comes to celebrity glamour, a fiercely fiery red lip is nothing new. But for the everyday gal about town, a red lip is a big deal. And I’m not talking about a toned down see-through sheer red tint (while that’s nice at times). I’m talking true, bright, festive red! The kind of red that commands the attention of the entire room (in a good way…not in an, “OMG, who’s that whore for hire” – type of way.

Prior to my encounter with the breathtakingly beautiful Poppy King (creator of Lipstick Queen) I never fancied myself to be the red lipstick type. I gave up on wearing red a long time ago. The wrong red has a strange way of aging you. Also, as a woman with rather full lips (au natural, baby!) I’ve always felt the need to shy away from too much color/attention the lips.

So back to Poppy King…earlier this year I had the privilege of working with Poppy King on the launch her latest collection, Chinatown. While spending time with Poppy, I decided to try HER signature color. Oh what the heck…”when in Rome”, I thought to myself. I have to admit, I was a little self conscious at first. How dare I think I can wear red??? After applying the lipstick I went up to Poppy and asked her thoughts. And in her lovely Australian accent she responded, “Ohhh, its gorgeous on your darling”. SO there! My red lip is Poppy King approved!

Ever since that day I have been absolutely smitten with red.  Not one to leave well enough alone, I set forth a quest to uncover more great reds! I think you will be very pleased with the gorgeous range of reds out there. So without further ado, here’s your ThisThatBeauty approved list of great reds!

I hope you fall in love with one or two:)

Lipstick Queen Red Sinner This is the red that started it all.

And when I tell you I wore this puppy everywhere…I WORE IT EVERYWHERE…

Going on a coffee run, where’s my Red Sinner…

Running errands, where’s my Red Sinner…

I need a new facebook profile pic, where’s my Red Sinner…

At a Kiss New York Makeup event, where’s my Red Sinner?

Hanging out with Academy Award nominee Taraji Henson (not really…just a photo op), where’s my Red Sinner.
Pal-ing aroung with RuPaul, where’s my Red Sinner…

So many reviews…so few faces for product testing! Oy vey, the trials and tribulations of a Beauty Blogger.

I’ve been dying to test and review two new Smashbox products but with back to back makeup gigs, The Makeup Show, various writing gigs, and that crazy thing we call LIFE…well, I have not managed to find the time.

What’s a busy beauty blogging gal to do?

[DING DONG]

Is that the imaginary ThisThatBeauty doorbell? Hmmm, I better go answer.

TTB:  Who’s there?

Chrissy: It’s Chrissy!

TTB: Oh hi Chrissy. Boy did you show up just in the nick of time.

Chrissy:  Really? Is there something that I can help you with?

TTB:  *evil grin* Why yes, Chrissy. There’s absolutely something that I could use your help with *hee hee hee*
So without further ado, behold – Chrissy’s review (with pics):
Smashbox Halo Hydrating Perfecting Powder and High Definition Concealer (both in “light” and available at Sephora)

THE REVIEW:
I did not have to use a lot of the Smashbox High Definition Concealer to get great coverage. In fact, I ended up spreading what I would normally use on one eye to do both eyes. I gently dabbed the concealer into my eye socket and it immediately brightened up my eyes. I finished my face off with the Smashbox Halo Hydrating Perfecting Powder. I love the powder for so many reasons!

1) The coverage — It is buildable. Since I have a lot of freckles to cover I need to apply two layers to get the desired coverage.

2) The finish — Halo gives me a soft, natural look…no matter how much I apply.

3) The packaging — I love the “turn to get what I want” function. I can turn the compact disc slightly to get enough powder for one application. This allows me to control how much I use and I don’t feel like I am wasting powder or getting too much on my brush.

Thanks Chrissy!

You weren’t born with long lashes. No worries!

Smashbox’s new Lash DNA Mascara is packed with proteins and amino acids that bind to lashes to create “genetic defying” length while conditioning and repairing lash damage. Lash DNA has a unique double helix brush that grabs each lash to create a beautiful fanned out effect.

Faithful ThisThatBeauty readers know that I tend to favor thin mascara wands, but I must say, Lash DNA’s helix shaped wand does what it claims. The brush separates and fans out lashes beautifully. The formula is extremely smooth, lightweight, and non-clumping. Want to see my results with Lash DNA?

Nice, huh? Do you notice the fanned out effect? Sooo pretty, right?

    Additional product info:

    What it is:
    A lengthening and curling mascara.

    What it does:
Smashbox Lash DNA Mascara contains a proprietary complex of proteins and amino acids that bind to lashes—creating mega-length and curl while conditioning and rebuilding former lash damage. The double-helix brush lengthens and separates every lash, no matter how small, for the ultimate fanned-out effect.

Since my last two installments of “ThisThatBeauty Pops Lip: Lip Colour du Jour” have featured lip gloss, I thought I’d switch things up a taste and feature a lipstick.

For today’s installment of “ThisThatBeauty Pops Lip: Lip Colour du Jour”, I’m feeling simply SPLENDID. Smashbox SPLENDID, that is!

Smashbox Photofinish Lipstick with Sila-Silk Technology is packed with Vitamin E. The silky formula goes on smooth and leaves a luminous finish. It feels incredibly yummy and creamy!

Splendid kind of puts me in  a Kerry Washington state of mind. It’s a very soft pink that’s slightly mod. I’ve seen Kerry wear this kind of color quite a bit (see photo montage).

The color is very deceiving from the tube. Before applying I thought to myself  “I don’t know about this one”. But upon application I was converted into a true believer.

What say you? Are you feelings my Lip Colour du Jour
Does it seem a little Kerry Washington to you? Leave a comment? I want to hear your thoughts :)

        Smashbox stans – stand up!
        (free shipping also available)
If I may make a suggestion, TRY THIS.
I have played around with this brush set and its really nice.
The brush size is anything but “travel”.
        It’s a nice set, indeed.

And don’t forget about the sale section, also known as “Curtain Call”. Here you will find great deals on many must have items!
