As most of you know I recently turned 40. Yep, 40. There’s a celebratory hash-tag and everything (#WaitWhatSheIs40). Most people don’t dedicate a hash-tag and announce turning 40, but I actually feel amazing about 40. And, if I’m being 100% honest, it doesn’t hurt that most people think I’m 28-29…32 at the oldest.

#WaitWhatSheIs40 -- Fresh faced, me. No makeup. No filter. No soft focus blur. !00% ME at 40....
#WaitWhatSheIs40 — Fresh faced, me. No makeup. No filter. No soft focus blur. 100% ME at 40….

While genetics play a role in how skin ages, good genes are not enough. I believe that proper skin care is your greatest defense against premature aging. And the earlier you start, the better! My skin care philosophy, for years, has always been 1) start early and 2) wear broad spectrum sunscreen daily! In fact, I always advise — if you’re not going to do anything else, at least wear sunscreen. So when I learned about PREP Cosmetics, I knew I had to get on my soap box and preach…
PREP Cosmetics on ThisThatBeauty
The line, created by two moms (one, a Derm) and geared toward young girls is pretty simple, with key ingredients like — ZINC OXIDE (for sun protection),  JOJOBA OIL – (for moisture),  NIACINAMIDE Vitamin B3 and  Vitamin E (for an antioxidant boost).

While I am absolutely not the target age group for PREP Cosmetics, I’m really excited to share a skin care line that speaks to my core skin care values. PREP’s mission is to “educate young girls on the dangers of sun exposure” while making an  impact on the lives of girls around the world through “Share Your Beauty” — a platform with the goal to impart knowledge, encourage unity and inspire the global community of girls. Yes, #girlpower! PREP touches on all of the important stuff that young girls need to thrive. I love that there is a focus on inner and outer beauty. If there’s a young girl in your life, I encourage you to share PREP.

More about PREP
PREP Cosmetics enables every young girl to have a skincare regimen she can call her own and one that provides Powerful Real Everyday Protection. Co-created by Mayo Clinic trained dermatologist Carole Aponte, MD, and her business partner Kelly Barker, PREP Cosmetics has set out to educate young girls on the importance of using preventative skincare. All products are designed to be fresh, fun and easy to incorporate into an ongoing beauty routine. To date, the line includes a purifying daily cleanser, SPF 30 face + body lotion, and SPF 15 lip gloss. Coming soon, PREP Cosmetics will introduce a body wash, a lip gloss collection, nighttime moisturizer, 2-in-1 shampoo and conditioner, deodorant, anti-blemish spot treatment, and a SPF 30 tinted moisturizer…and this is just the beginning!

You know the look — Bright, clear, luminous skin that models sport whilst out & about and off-duty from the runway. Want to achieve it? Here’s how!

Start with SK-II Facial Treatment Cleanser. Skin is instantly brighter and velvety smooth. If you want to intensify your cleanse, use a skin cleansing brush like Philips Pure Radiance (review here) or Clinique Sonic System Purifying Cleansing Brush (preview here).

Get The Model-Off-Duty Glow By Morning

Next, do a quick at-home peel with Philosophy The Microdelivery Peel. Described by the brand as a “two-step, exfoliating, skin makeover”, this dual phase peel product gently exfoliates and douses skin with Vitamin C for brightening and peptides for rejuvenation.

Lastly, finish with a do-it-all oil like Sunday Riley ARTEMIS HYDROACTIVE CELLULAR FACE OIL. This final step is crucial (actually, they all are) because of complexion-balancing, clarifying and  detoxifying benefits of the oil blend.

Now there’s nothing left to do but rest well, wake up with glowing skin, Instagram your model-off-duty selfie and tag it #IWokeUpLikeThis — because you did!

As a card carry member of the oily face club, I know there’s a fine line between dewy and downright oily. And if you’re all too familiar with the dreaded midday makeup meltdown, these five tips for shine-free skin are for you. . .

TONE: Restore balance and reduce excess sebum production with a skin-soothing facial tonic or toner. La Mer Oil Absorbing Tonic is a perfect choice. Infused with algae extracts and La Mer’s signature Miracle Broth, this light facial water helps to rebalance skin and prevent embarrassing shine.

Having sensitive is no fun. Contact with certain ingredients, natural and otherwise, can lead to itching, redness and other forms of irritation. There are certain conventions when  shopping for skin care products for sensitive skin — a couple of the more popular ones include: looking for products with as few ingredients as possible and avoiding products with dyes and fragrance.  Click here to find skincare products proven to work on sensitive skin, without irritation.

If you follow me on Instagram, you know that I am a skincare junkie…..ahem lover. Below  is a picture of an average night of my skincare routine. Seems elaborate but it truly is what helps me maintain my great skin. However, I get asked all the time about that one magical product that will give someone perfect skin. To which I respond – “that is impossible”. There is no one cleanser, mask, cream or serum that will give you picture perfect, gorgeous skin. However, that being said,  read on to see 3 skincare non-negotiables for my skin.

Skincare Non-negotiables from Maree on ThisThatBeauty

Cleansing Oils/Cleansing Balms

Removing all of my makeup thoroughly is the first step for me in getting and keep clear skin. Typically my nightly cleansing involves two cleansers, but always, and I mean ALWAYS starts with either a cleansing oil or cleansing balm. I find they cut through makeup, grime and oil (ewwww, gross) like no other. And mascara, waterproof or not, is a breeze to remove with either types of these cleansers.  Since I have oily skin, it may not seem like  oil based anything should be the first thing I should be drawn to but they truly are remarkable.  Oil binds to oil, so often the best thing to help manage oily skin and keep it balanced without overdrying it, is in fact cleansing oils or cleansing balms. I always use dry hands and a dry face to apply the cleanser (it takes some getting used to at first), and then add water to emulsify and remove.

Some of my top favorite cleansing oils and cleansing balms are:

After cleansing, there is nothing I love more than a good ol’ exfoliation. It is vital in helping to reduce hyperpigmentation, minimize the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, slough off any dead skin to help reveal more radiant and glowing skin – the latter of the three being my favorite reason of all for exfoliating. Over the years, there has been a drastic improvement in the types of exfoliants available. Gone are the days of those rough and abrasive scrubs that leave your face scratched up and in most cases worse off.  Now there are chemical exfoliators that use different acids and enzymes to help gently slough away dead skin cells, refine the skin’s texture and even help to reduce hyperpigmentation. Manual scrubs have also been reformulated to be gentle, yet effective, with enzyme powders being one of my favorite types.  I find that the gentle nature of the powder mixed with the enzyme properties of the ingredients help to give a thorough exfoliation minus the redness, flakiness or irritation. I usually exfoliate 2-3/times a week, sometimes more if needed but try never to overdo it which can throw my skin out of balance.

Here are a few of my favorite chemical exfoliators and/or peels:

For manual exfoliators and/or enzyme powders, I recommend:

I know beauty bloggers, beauty editors, dermatologists tell you to wear sunscreen ad nauseum, but to tell you the truth it really does make a difference. Now don’t get me wrong, your body and skin needs some sun exposure – it’s healthy. Frying yourself at the beach all day without protection – no good. Walking to work every single day without any SPF on – I wouldn’t recommend it. Unhealthy sun exposure can lead to premature aging, sun spots, hyperpigmentation and gasp…wrinkles! Now with all the great formulations out there, you can find sun protection that works for your skin type. With my oily skin, I have found a couple that really wear well throughout the day and even under makeup.

My favorites are:

What are some of your skincare non-negotiables?

For as long as I can remember I’ve heard that the skin repairs itself during sleep.  This is the number one reason it is drilled into our heads that we should never ever, under any circumstance, EVER, sleep in makeup. While it is not recommended that you sleep in makeup, there are products designed to work with your sleep cycle and deliver maximum reparative results while you sleep.  La Prairie’s Skin Caviar Luxe Sleep Mask is one such product. The Skin Caviar Luxe Sleep Mask combines the restorative powers of a nightly cream with the concentrated and reparative actives of a mask. Formulated with Caviar extract, the sleep mask hydrates, firms and lifts skin to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

ThisThatBeauty Reviews- La Prairie's Skin Caviar Luxe Sleep Mask

Other Key Ingredients and Functions:

  • Inula Crithmoides Extract – A plant extract that offers protection against photo-induced collagen degradation and stimulates collagen for improved suppleness and firmness.
  • Algae Extract – An innovative new algae extract which acts to down-regulate Progerin production (a protein linked to aging of cells) in order to preserve skin tissues from accelerated aging.
  • Sunflower Seed Oil and Salicornia Herbacea Extract – Support skin barrier function during sleep, reducing trans-epidermal water-loss and increase cell hydration through the use of aquaporines which drive moisture into the cell.
  • Cupuacu Seed Butter –  Native to the Amazon, a butter from the Cupuacu tree. It possesses a softer, creamier consistency than Cocoa Butter, and offers exceptional hydration and elasticity restoration for the skin.
  • Phytic Acid – Naturally derived from rice, Phytic Acid serves as an antioxidant that  protects skin from oxidative stress, and in turn reducing inflammation. Due to its acidic nature, Phytic Acid also aids in cell turnover.
  • Carica Papaya  –  Carica Papaya is as effective as glycolic acid in brightening the overall appearance of the skin. It is a natural exfoliation enzyme proven to smooth, soften and improve the overall appearance of the skin in as little as one application.
  • La Prairie’s Exclusive Cellular Complex of Glycoproteins, Horsetail and Ginseng Extracts

My Results with  La Prairie’s Skin Caviar Luxe Sleep Mask:

I found La Prairie’s Skin Caviar Luxe Sleep Mask to be extremely hydrating.  The morning after the first night of use, my skin felt supple and my face looked refreshed.  While I’m not one to use applicators for face creams and masks (I like the feeling of product on my hands,) I followed the directions and used the brush included with the mask. As fate would have it, I actually like using the brush to apply the mask because I think it gives a more even distribution on my skin…it is also easier to apply the mask in upward sweeping motions. The mask is luxe and chock full of active ingredients and the applicator reduces the incidence of contaminating the product.

Remember,  your skin is at its peak for product absorption and repair during sleep, so at the very least, you should go to bed with a clean face.  If you want to get the maximum beauty benefits from your nightly slumber, La Prairie’s Skin Caviar Sleep Mask might be just the ticket.

La Prairie’s Skin Caviar Luxe Sleep Mask  is available at Bergdorf Goodman, Bloomingdale’s, Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom, Saks Fifth Avenue and www.laprairie.com.  Suggested retail price is $300.

It’s no surprise that I’ve been paying much closer attention to labels these days. With Baby Benson on board, I can’t be too careful (I mean, she’s heir to my ThisThatBeauty empire!!). So while visiting Paris, I was extremely excited to have the opportunity to get to know Patyka. During my five-day Beauty Tour, I had dinner with Patyka’s President, Pierre, and visited the Patyka Boutique at Printemps.

with Patyka's President, Pierre
After dinner with Patyka’s President, Pierre…& check out the view from his home!

I’ve tried many times (unsuccessfully) to embrace organic skin care. I get it I get it!. . . organic is generally better for you because it’s free of “bad-for-you” chemicals and such. . . blah, blah, blah. Gotcha! But what about product efficacy? I am all for going the greener route, but at the end of the day, I am also (slightly) vain and I need to uphold a certain aesthetic. I don’t want wrinkly eyes or a creased forehead. . . .well not at the tender age of thirty-something. I’ll gladly take my well earned lines of life, at say, 65, but for now, I look to highly effective skin care products to slow down the hands of time. And, generally, I’ve found very few organic skin care products that deliver the results I desire. So when learning of Patyka, a high-performing line of organic skincare, fragrance and bath and body, well — I had questions.

Patyka Boutique
At Patyka’s Boutique in Paris

I first learned of Patyka a couple of years ago and began using their body care products, but had yet to venture into their skincare. So after spending time with the brand in Paris, I decided to take the plunge and commit to a few items for a six week period.

Since returning from Paris I’ve been regularly using:

RADIANT EXFOLIATING MASK: The Radiant Exfoliating Mask is a spectacular anti-aging skin care product. Its intelligent complex of botanical active ingredients moisturize, exfoliate, and tone in three complementary phases, with a single gesture. The mask smooths fine lines, refines the pores and genuinely brightens the complexion.

ROSE FACE TONER: The delicate alcohol-free Rose Face Toner tones, protects, softens, refines skin texture and leaves a sensation of absolute comfort thanks to a remarkable association of 2 key active ingredients: Damask Rose Hydrosol and Biosaccharide Gum 1.

RADIANT EYE CONTOUR: Specifically created for the demanding eye contour area, the targeted chronobiological Radiant Eye Contour skin care product is a unique combination of more than 10 active ingredients with natural anti-aging and anti-fatigue properties. It brightens, relieves congestion, smooths, lifts, and is an excellent make-up base. Signs of fatigue are immediately corrected, the eyes’ radiant glow is infinitely preserved.

Of the three products, one is a clear winner and another is a definite keeper.

RADIANT EXFOLIATING MASK is the clear winner. First of all, you had me at “Radiant”. Anything that promises radiant skin is immediately a cause for pause. I firmly belief that bright, luminous skin is the ultimate sign of youth. Even with a few lines and wrinkles, skin that is vivid, hydrated and bright appears more youthful. I love that RADIANT EXFOLIATING MASK delivers the aforementioned attributes with just one use. The mostly organic (99.55% of ingredients from natural origin &
71.40% of ingredients from organic agriculture) brightening mask is formulated with Avocado, Jojoba, and Sesame oil to moisturize, and Soft Fruit Acids and Bamboo Extract to exfoliate. The moisturizing and exfoliating dual action delivers immediate brightness, visible hydration, and a fresher complexion. If you’re looking for an immediate boost, RADIANT EXFOLIATING MASK is the answer.

As for the ROSE FACE TONER I must, firstly, admit that I am a sucker for a good toner. I believe in the skin balancing, treatment, and prep properties of facial toners….so I am naturally drawn to this soothing, rose water based lotion. I tend to have very oily, acne prone skin, so the soothing, anti-inflammatory nature of rose is a big help. I highly recommend ROSE FACE TONER for most skin types, but I 100% recommend it for super sensitive, acne prone, or easily inflamed skin.

While the RADIANT EYE CONTOUR is certainly comforting and hydrating, I don’t think I’ve used it long enough to speak to its cumulative benefits. I can say that my eye area has experienced no adverse reactions as a result of use. As for smoothing lines and relieving the look of fatigue, I think I’ll be in a better position to evaluate this claim after Baby Benson arrives. *WINK* ..so let’s just say I’ll keep you posted!

BOTTOM LINE: Based upon my six-week trial of the aforementioned Patyka products, I am giving the botanically based skin care line my seal of approval. Partnered with a modern sensibility, innovative technology, and efficacious delivery systems, this organic skin care line proves that it can deliver results on par with its non-organic competitors. If naturally blended ingredients are a key factor in your skincare routine, I absolutely suggest that you give Patyka a try.

While I traveled all the way to France to experience the brand, you can purchase Patyka stateside at: Patyka.com, dermstore.com and Amazon.com.

By a show of hands, who’s enamored with French beauty? Everyone, right?

I absolutely crave the rituals and beauty secrets of French women. There’s just something about the French beauty aesthetic that I cannot get enough of…the mood is chic & understated, yet undeniably present. For years I’ve dabbled in French beauty products ranging from creams and treatments serums, to haircare and color cosmetics.

with Jean Patou Parfumer

I recently had the opportunity to visit Paris and spend intimate time behind-the-scenes with five incredible French brands: Orlane, Leonor Greyl, Jean Patou, Patyka, and Talika.

The thought of this rare experience immediately appealed to me. While pretty colors and lovely packaging send my heart sailing, my expertise as a Beauty Girl is deeply rooting in gaining a deeper understanding of brand heritage, product ingredients, formulation, efficacy, delivery systems, etc.

Orlane Headquaters

So, when offered the chance to travel to Paris and meet with the owners and R&D professionals behind five of Paris’ most successful brands, well — only an act of God could have prevented me from going!

Over the next few weeks, I will share my Parisian Beauty Tour with you:

– You’ll learn all about the life changing Leonor Greyl hair treatment and treatment technique that has forever changed how I care for my hair…I’ll share the products used (lucky you — they’re available in the US) and insider tips on how to get the results of your life.

– I’ll share how I fell in love with fragrance house Jean Patou.

– As a new mom (to be!), I’m really getting into products that are both organic and effective – key word: effective! So learning about Patyka was an absolute pleasure…can’t wait to tell you more about the line and the products with which I’m having tremendous success.

– Beauty innovation gets me going…and, oh the things I learned while visiting with Talika! Stay tuned…

House of Orlane was truly a unique and special experience. During my trip I took lots of video of rarely seen archives and original product packaging. And since my return three weeks ago, I’ve been faithfully using Orlane’s #1 elixir and cream…can’t wait to share more!

Stay plugged in more, more more!

Can’t we all use a little beauty help every now and then? Just the other day…I sent a distress text to one of my PR Beauty Girlfriends for advice on a dastardly pimple on the rise. Thankfully, her sage advice saved the day. But, let’s say your BFF isn’t so savvy in the beauty department. Other than my blog (obviously), where do you turn for beauty help? Well how about Walgreens? I’ve been a Walgreens beauty shopper for years (Ferry Street store in Newark, to be specific), so when Walgreens and Style Coalition asked me to share my thoughts, I jumped at the opportunity.

Walgreens Sample Box

The newly redesigned beauty aisle at Walgreens is laid out to better help you find your favorites, discover something new, or just browse the latest products and trends in beauty. And if you take a look around, you’ll notice another helpful addition — Beauty Advisors.

Walgreens Beauty Advisor

In every store, you’ll find a trained Beauty Advisor on hand to help guide you and share insightful tips. Need help erasing dark under eye circles? Not sure of the best cleanser for your skin type? Well, wonder no more. Your Walgreens Beauty Advisor is well versed on the products in store, so he or she can help you demystify the labels and select the best possible products.

Insider Tips

With your purchase (while supplies last), you’ll receive Walgreens new Sample Boxes. In this previous post I explain Sample Boxes a bit more. While the sample product inside is a whole lot of fun, the part of the Sample Box that I like most is the little “Smart Tips and Secret Tricks” mini mag. It’s filled with coupons and tips on things like “Perfect Lip Looks“, “Bright Eyes“, “No Chip Tips“, and “Winter Fixes“. I’m such a beauty nerd and I live for a good beauty read…and these little mini mags are perfect for keeping current with the latest in makeup, skin, and hair. So genius!

Perfect Lip Looks

So if you’re looking to overhaul your current routine or just refresh your beauty stash a bit, Walgreens Beauty Advisors are in-the-know on all things beauty and can help you make great choices and save a few dollars.

If you’re not making Walgreens your drugstore beauty destination, you’re missing out! Want to discover the season’s best beauty at Walgreens? Well here’s your chance to win a $30 Walgreens gift card? Leave a comment that fills in the blank: My favorite Walgreens beauty buy is:___________ [and briefly explain why]

I will select one winner at random.

Good luck!

I’m all for upgrades. Like getting bumped up to first class from coach. . . or when the wait at Starbucks is unusually long, and the nice barista rewards my patience with a grande, instead of my frugalista-friendly tall. See, upgrades are nice. Well how about a beauty upgrade from the helpful folks at Walgreens?

Walgreens Beauty Advisor

Yes, your ears do not deceive you — Walgreens. If you’ve visited your local Walgreen’s lately [heyyy, Pat, my favorite cashier, at my local Walgreens on Ferry Street in Newark] you’ve likely noticed some major upgrades up and down the cosmetics aisle. I’ve been a Walgreens customer for years…so when Walgreens & Style Coalition approached me to share my thoughts, I was delighted. Not only are Walgreens beauty displays more vivid and illuminated to showcase the very best of drugstore beauty, the beauty areas now also have dedicated Beauty Advisors on hand. So if you’re wondering if you can pull off this season’s it color [Emerald] or have questions about the best skin care formulations for your skin type, there’s a trained Beauty Girl [or Beauty Boy] in-store to help with your beauty needs.

Walgreens Sample Box

And here’s where Walgreens really plays to my beauty loving heartSample Boxes. In Sample Boxes you will find Smart Tips from Walgreens Beauty Advisors, seasonal care secrets for skin & hair, beauty trend tidbits, money-saving coupons, and most of all – SAMPLES! And beauty boxes aren’t a random mish-mosh of throwaway product…no ma’am. The cutely curated boxes are theme specific and focus on specific areas of beauty. To learn more about Sample Boxes, click here. A world of beauty discoveries await [while supplies last…so get yours now]!

If you’re not making Walgreens your drugstore beauty destination, you’re missing out! Want to discover the season’s best beauty at Walgreens? Well here’s your chance to win a $30 Walgreens gift card? I’ve always been one to share. My toys (as a tyke), my food, my time, and yes…my beauty secrets! While I absolutely love writing product reviews and demystifying the in’s and out’s of the newest beauty, what I enjoy most is the opportunity to chat personally with my readers and dish the kind of beauty wisdom that can be applied across the board, regardless of the specific products your choose to use. So when Wella Professionals asked if I’d share my best kept secrets for pitch-perfect hair, enviable skin, and makeup-musts — well, I jumped at the opportunity. Why? Because beauty is my passion and sharing every ounce of that passion is the very reason I started ThisThatBeauty over five years ago.

So from me to you: My Best Kept Beauty Secrets for Hair, Skin, and Makeup

For bright, clear, even-toned skin, I cannot stress enough the importance of sunscreen 365 days a year. The sun’s harmful rays are the number one cause of pre-mature aging. In simpler language — it’s making you look old! In more eloquent language — it’s causing fine lines and wrinkles to appear as early as your 20’s. Yikes! Around age 60, I’ll happily accept my character-defining smile lines as a little token of a life well lived….but at 30-something, I’ll pass (thank you!). Maintain line-free skin by wearing daily broad spectrum (UVA &UVB) sunscreen. Many of today’s formulations are lightweight and are undetectable under makeup. There are even powdered SPF products that can be applied over makeup. Nice, huh?
Hair: Let’s focus on heat protection. I’m always amazed at the amount of thought and label-reading that goes into selecting the appropriate shampoo and conditioner for a specific hair type…only to have the affects of your nourishing shampoo and deep-conditioning treatment reversed by heat damage during the styling process. Ladies, let’s get it together! If you are applying any type of heat to hair (blow dryer, curling iron, straightening iron) a heat protectant is imperative to shield hair against damage. Failure to comply can result in frayed ends, breakage, and irreversible damage to curls if you’re naturally curly (like me).  Wella Professionals Thermal Image Heat Protection Spray can help. The formula lynch-pin, Polyquaternium-16, not only protects hair from heat, but also helps to reduce static electricity, and provide touchable hold. Ask your stylist for Wella or find a Wella salon near you at wellausa.com
Makeup: If I’ve learned anything at all from RuPaul’s Drag Race, I’ve learned that “contour” is a gift from above. But let’s use this technique of shading and highlighting for good, and not over-contoured evil. I love creating soft contour with blush and bronzer….this gives my face a sculpted, more lifted look. Also, if I’m feeling a little plump in the cheeks, in addition to amping up my workout, I go a bit more generous on the bronzer…you’d be surprised what a little well placed contouring can do!
Acne: Ever think about some of the “non beauty product” things you can do to manage your acne? 1) Change pillow cases often. 2) Use a headset with cell phone. 3) Use paper towels after washing face (instead of using the towel that was used to dry your body).
Overall Skincare Maintenance: Remember to evaluate your skin and products often. Maybe the super lightweight moisturizer that was a God send for summer, falls short for winter. Skin changes from season to season and so should your skin care products.

So there you have. . . a few of my best tips for staying beautiful! Xx

Surprise, Surprise: Most of the things I blog about are submitted to ThisThatBeauty for editorial consideration. In simpler language — I don’t pay for them. Oh yes, that’s pretty much the way it works with most blogs and all magazines. PR professionals pitch products and as the Editor, it’s my role to decide which items get reviewed or included in stories for ThisThatBeauty. And while we cover lots of great product here on my little bloggy woggy, not all of it gets replenished. Some things I use until they’re all used up . . .never to be replenished again. But then there are those star products that I cannot imagine life without. These are the things that I replenish time after time.

I always say, the true sign of product lust/ loyalty is whether or not a beauty editor BUYS the product on her own dime. Here are the items that I happily pay for with my CHASE Visa Debit Card:

Everything Mario Badescu: Just search my blog and you’ll find countless reviews. MB is basically my skin care savior. Whenever my skin goes through seasonal changes or gets out of whack, I can always rely on MB products to rein it in.

GrandeLash MD: Uhm, excuse me, Bambi! This stuff works. I’ve been using it for the past three months and just placed an order for my next three month supply. My lashes are now super duper long and thick. What I love most about this product is that it does not irritate my lash line at all, unlike other growth serums I have tried. I also love that it dries totally clear and I can use it day or night. With other growth serums I’ve tried, they tend to dry with a little white-ish film that doesn’t look so nice for daytime. I saw length after about four weeks…but now that I am three months in, my lashes are not just longer, but also thicker and darker. I’m hooked!

Everything ReVive (except their eye care…meh!): I fell in love with the line about a 18 months ago, and let me tell you — I had the best skin of my life when I was using all ReVive everything. I’ve yet to meet a line of anti-aging products that work as well as ReVive. On a whole, the line is the best there is. Obviously I like products from other lines and constantly test new products….but I always go back to ReVive when I’m in need of an anti-aging fix. FAVS: Defensif Renewal Serum for day and Moisturizing Renewal Cream for night. Trust!

Koh Gen Do Spa Cleansing Water: Hands down, the best cleansing water for removing stubborn mascara and liner. Super effective, yet super gentle.

How often do you evaluate your skin care routine? I mean, really critically analyze the needs of your skin against the efficacy of your products. Perhaps the serum you’re using is great for managing acne, but that was five years ago and suddenly you’ve noticed tiny fine lines on your forehead. Or, perhaps your usual daily moisturizer feels great and applies well, but when stacked against current technology and advanced delivery systems, you realize that in addition to increasing hydration, maybe there are creams on the market that also eradicate wrinkles, fight hyperpigmentation, and leave a luminous finish.

I say all of this to say: Skin beyond the age of 20ish regularly goes through a laundry list of changes. It’s up to you to make sure that the products you apply topically are the cream (pun intended) of the crop and best suited for skin’s changing needs.

Does your skin suffer from diminished vitality? Is it not as plump, smooth, and supple as it used to be? In just four weeks, ANEW Genics Treatment Cream (patented with YouthGenTM Technology – inspired by genetic research on human longevity) is a fairly recent skin care breakthrough that promises to do a Cher (“turn back time”) in as little as four weeks. By boosting specific skin proteins, ANEW Genics Treatment Cream stimulates skin’s Youth Gene and triggers younger acting skin. Momma ThisThatBeauty has been enjoying the benefits ever since I gave her a jar about a month ago. Recently, I could not help but marvel over mom’s much improved 58-year old skin…Isn’t she pretty?!

Most women first reach for an eye cream somewhere around early 20’s…usually due to the effects of dryness, puffiness, or dark circles. However, as skin matures, the prevention of fine lines, wrinkles and creasing is a primary concern. Newly launched, SK-II Skin Signature Eye Cream smooths the early signs of aging at the corners of eyes and underneath.

The signature complex, a proprietary blend of Pitera™, Oli-Vityl (anti-oxidant protection), Signaline, and concentrated levels of Niacinamide, work in concert to reduce dull appearance, increase hydration, and firm the look of crepe-y skin. SK-II Skin Signature Eye Cream is serious treatment for eyes and an appropriate next step option for those of us in search of an eye cream that does more…much more! (ME!!)

It all sounds so sci-fi…A renewable energy project, turned anti-aging discovery is the real life true story inception of Algenist. Picture it: A team of San Francisco based biotechnology scientists were hard at work developing microalgae-based renewable energy solutions when they uncovered “alguronic acid”, a powerful compound connected to cell regeneration. When tested in clinical trials, younger-looking resulted…in as little as 10 days. Yes, 10 days! Now, who doesn’t have 10 days to put the claim to the test?

Ladies, start your engines…I mean, er, start your infrared LED light. Sure, topicals are effective…but why not work deeper? LightStim helps create collagen (the secret to plump, line-free skin) and improve skin’s elasticity by emitting pain-free amber and red infrared LED light. The wavelengths energize skin’s youth cells and promote radiant, brilliant complexion. The handheld, at-home device is a must add to your routine. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure!

Give your skin the attention it deserves. Take a step back. Look in the mirror. Survey your skin. Now, survey your medicine cabinet? Are you well-equipped to handle the skin care challenges before you? If not, re-read this blog post and compile your shopping list. Thank me later!
