When buying  makeup,  foundation  is the most difficult thing for me to find. Turns out i’m not alone. According to a study conducted by the NPD group, 73% of women say it’s challenging to find their right foundation. Fifty-four percent of these women went on to say the most challenging part of finding the right foundation was finding the right shade. I can definitely attest to that statement because I fall into this category as well.

When I shop for foundation I generally by the shade as matched and recommended buy the makeup professional but then also ask for samples of the shade lighter and darker than my skin tone. This way I can mix-and-match until I find the perfect blend that works for me. Even when I shop the drugstore aisles I still get at least two shades of foundation then try them at home to find my perfect blend. Make Up For Ever, with its Foundation Nation events, is aiming to take the guesswork out of buying foundation.

Make Up For Ever Foundation Nation

The Make Up For Ever Foundation Nation events will be held at select Sephora locations from September 19th to September 28th. During the Foundation Nation event, women of all ages, skintones, types and textures will be able to find the perfect foundation formula  and color to match their skin.  The Make Up For Ever team of professional artist will be giving complimentary 15 minutes foundation lessons to help “empower women to put their most flawless face forward.” In these sessions women will be asked about their most challenging foundation issue, so, anything from texture, tone, dark spots, oiliness, dryness and everything in between can and will be addressed when each woman is shopping for her foundation.

Click here to find a Foundation Nation event near you and let the Make Up For Ever team of well trained professionals help you find your perfect foundation shade and formula.

Felicia is the unofficial red lip queen of the beauty blogosphere. So, when we get wind of a new red launching we are generally first in line to test it out. I’m not a lipstick wearer but after seeing the formula for Make Up For Ever Aqua Rouge #8 and seeing the lovely Gina Brooke, Makeup Artist to Madonna) wearing it, I walked out of the press breakfast wearing my first public display of red…ever! (Not counting Halloween when I dressed as a more confident version of myself. Shocking, but I digress.)

Gina Brooke and Christene Carr both wearing MUFE Aqua Rouge #8

Gina Brooke, Madonna’s makeup artist for over ten years, faces the challenge of keeping the Material Girl’s makeup fresh for all her tour performances including her upcoming MDNA Tour. She has 1.5 to 2 minutes between sets to freshen up Madonna’s makeup and get her ready for her next performance and close up on the jumbo-tron – with this said, there can be no mistakes. Brooke states: “I loved working with Make Up For Ever to create a custom shade of Aqua Rouge specifically for Madonna […] I wanted to come up with a perfect pure red lip colour that would exude confidence and beauty.” The red was created to compliment all skin tones because it will not only be used on Madonna, but also on all her dancers on stage who range in shade from light to dark. Aqua Rouge #8 contains blue and orange undertones to account for the difference in each wearers skin tone. Aqua Rouge lip colour is a high impact liquid lip color that delivers a matte long lasting colour, but that is not all — the color comes in combination with a gloss that can be applied after the color liquid has dried and set.

The Aqua Rouge formula took 3 years to develop and the #8 shade took another six months to perfect. If you are headed out the door and you are iffy about the kind of lip you want to wear that day, Aqua Rouge is not the one with which to start. This product is sweat proof, dance proof, gym proof – overall, budge proof, if applied correctly.

I am not accustomed to wearing much on my lips, so, it was no surprise that Aqua Rouge felt foreign. After a couple of hours my lips felt a bit dry but the lipstick looked as if it had just been applied. Even after gloss was added it was still immovable. To remove this product you can try any makeup remover designed to remove long wear makeup. Gina suggest Make Up For Ever Sens Eyes, which worked for me.

Aqua Rouge is available in 12 shades, so, if you are into long wear lip color there is most definitely something for you! If you are not into long wear lip colors, I ask, why not?

MUFE Aqua Rouge Lineup

Make Up For Ever Aqua Rouge retails for $24 and is available at Make Up For Ever boutiques and Sephora.

In honor of our current crappy snow condition, I have decided to dig in the crates and re-publish a FACE OF THE DAY piece I published during a really big snow storm in 2008. Enjoy!

[Rewind…….]

Happy Snow Day folks –

Brrrr…..How’s everyone holding up in this snow?
Most of us have been confined to our homes all day due to the in-climate weather.  In Jersey, by 11AM, we had already accumulated a couple inches of snow.  So for most of us, business as usual was stalled and a Snow Day commenced. For yours truly, a Snow Day means idle hands. What to do? What to do? What’s a silly makeup loving girl to do with sooo much time on my hands?…Hmmmm, any suggestions????
Uhhh, Duh….play in makeup of course!
Well alright! That’s exactly what I did.
Behold today’s FACE OF THE DAY.
I give you – “Chocolate Snow Bunny Snow Day” FACE OF THE DAY…complete with fun/ silly winter hats. Stay warm and stay safe…it’s a mess out there!

And here’s what I’m wearing:

FACE:
MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Natural in Dark
MAC Mineralize Skinfinish in Dark/ Natural and Shimmer – Shimmer side used as a highlighter on planes of cheeks
Shiny Mama Shimmer all in Ice on planes of cheeks over MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Shimmer
Make Up For Ever Sculpting Blush in Shade 14 (I think, number is somewhat rubbed off)

EYES:
Urban Decay primer potion
Naked Cosmetics Desert Sunset

MAC Powerpoint Eye Pencil in Engraved on Upper/Lower Lashline and Waterline
Make Up For Ever Smoky Lash Mascara in Extreme Black

A crease-free concealer. No, really!

The magicians over at Make Up For Ever (MUFE) have done it again! The latest MUFE product to give me a case of the “OMG’s” is HD Invisible Cover Concealer. This amazingly crease-free (yes, crease-free) concealer is the newest addition to the MUFE family of HD Complexion products.

ThisThatBeauty is a long time fan of MUFE….with Smoky Lash being my MUFE first love:)

Don’t you just hate the appearance of obvious concealer?Well MUFE HD Invisible Concealer satisfies every woman’s desire for a natural looking concealer that does not enhance fine lines and wrinkles.

As someone with minimal under eye darkness, I normally use concealer as an under eye brightener, and not necessarily to conceal darkness. I sometimes find that many under eye concealers bring out lines that didn’t exist and make my under eye area look dried out and old. Yuck. Not cute and totally unexceptable for Ms ThisThatBeauty.

MUFE HD Invisible Coverage Concealer covers darkness and brightens without settling into fine lines. The coverage is completely natural looking on skin.

Check out the key ingredients that make this product so amazing:

  • Extremely highly concentrated pigments wrapped in amino acids that not only appear invisible on skin but stay atop the outer layer of skin, rather than sinking into pores.
  • Sericite Mica reflects and refracts light to give a soft focus effect to the delicate skin under the eyes.
  • Fucogel is used to boost skin’s hydration by repairing the balance of water and retaining moisture though out the day.
  • Silicone Elastomeric Powder gently fills in lines and wrinkles to create a smooth under eye surface.

MUFE HD Invisible Cover Concealer is is conveniently packaged in a portable tube with a built in applicator made of a soft flexible silicone tip for precise application.

I love that MUFE HD Invisible Cover Concealer comes in 14 shades that range from the lightest to the deepest. When I envision my friends and clients, I cant think of a single person that would not fall into the shade range.

Lightest shade –
305 Porcelain

(for light skin with deep pink undertones)

Deepest shade  –
370 Ebony

(for dark skin with dark beige undertones)

Available exclusively at Make Up For Ever Boutique NYC,  Sephora and Sephora.com.

I love what I do. Truly!
One of my greatest beauty blogging joys is getting up close and personal with the brains behind the brands. Over the last year we’ve chatted with the brains behind amazing brands like Make Up For Ever, Three Custom Color Specialists, Cosmoholic, Shiny Mama, and many wonderful others.
Today we’re going behind the scenes
with BEAUTE COSMETICS.

Beau Nelson is the Creative Director for BEAUTE Cosmetics Inc…and guess what? Beau’s talking to ThisThatBeauty and giving us a peek inside the brand.
THISTHATBEAUTY:
Beau, welcome to ThisThatBeauty! Thanks so much for talking with us. Let’s jump right in. Does BEAUTE Cosmetics fill a void in the beauty industry?

Beau for BEAUTE:

We definitely believe that Beauté fills a void in the cosmetics industry. We have literally worked with a majority of lines out there, and quite a few of them in-depth. We see that a lot of lines have one or two products that stand out, and others rely primarily on packaging to sell. We wanted to create a brand that not only had beautiful luxurious packaging, but also make every single product we put out on the market unique, special and perfect. Our quality of product and packaging standards set us apart.

TTB:
What led you to create your line of lip gloss and a dual purpose gel stain for lips and cheeks?

Beau for BEAUTE:
There were other stain products on the market before ours came out however all of them were liquid they were very hard to blend or they were gels that were not very pigmented. They were usually only available in a very limited selection of shades, usually red. We wanted something that was high pigment but also easily blend-able and long lasting. Women want something easy that they don’t have to think about. Its so easy to put on your cheeks and lips and then forget about it for the day, it literally stays on for hours.

TTB:
You also offer makeup brushes. Are there plans to expand your line and branch out beyond glosses and stains?

Beau for BEAUTE:

Yes, eventually Beauté will be full range of color products, right now we are working on developing our lines of eye shadow, blush, foundation, light reflecting concealers, creme blush, hilighters and powders. Perfection is a process.

TTB:

Is there a lip color and/ or stain that you feel is universally flattering? Why?

Beau for BEAUTE:
Heroine Luminous Volume Gloss is pretty universal because its what We call a “Your lips but better” shade that enhances the natural lipcolor. All of the stains work on every color of skin, even very dark ones because the pigments are so pure and there is no titanium dioxide to make things go ashy on dark skin.

TTB:

What’s the one product that flies off the shelves? What can’t women get enough of?

Beau for BEAUTE:

Right now everyone seems to be loving Flouron stain, it looks neon orange in the bottle but is actually fluorescent pink, which blends down into a vibrant but super wearable shade for cheeks and lips. We love topping it with Girlie Show Luminous Volume Gloss which is pale pink. The two together make this gorgeous petal pink shade that looks so fresh and pretty.

TTB:
Beau, thank you so much for your time. I love your glosses and stains. Check me out working it below :-)
In this picture I am wearing Luminous Volume Gloss in Urge,
a beautiful sheer reddish tone that works beautifully on brown skin. Kudos BEAUTE!

In this picture I am wearing Luminous Volume Gloss in Paramour. Its a really cool pink mod lip color.

Here I am wearing Liqui-Gel Stain for Cheeks and Lips in Harlot on my cheeks and lips. I love the richness of the pigment. And unlike most stains, its not some generic shade of red…but a very beautiful berry tone that is incredibly flattering.

And in these pictures, I decided to layer Liqui-Gel Stain for Cheeks and Lips in Flouroun over Liqui-Gel Stain for Cheeks and Lips in Harlot. The result…pure ski bunny cheeks. AND I LOVE IT!!!

Click HERE for more info on BEAUTE.
I highly recommend giving the glosses and stains a try. The colors are simply yummy and work beautifully on a variety of skin tones.

Check out BEAUTE Cosmetics…I doubt you will be disappointed. You’ll be rosy and all aglow…just like me :-)

        Happy Snow Day folks –

Brrrr…..How’s everyone holding up in this snow?
Most of us have been confined to our homes all day due to the inclimate weather.  In Jersey, by 11AM, we had already accumulated a couple inches of snow.  So for most of us, business us usual was stalled and a Snow Day commenced.
For yours truly, a Snow Day means idle hands. What to do? What to do? What’s a silly makeup loving girl to do with sooo much time on my hands?…Hmmmm, any suggestions????
Uhhh, Duh….play in makeup of course!
