Chic brights and classic nudes are all a girl needs for the spring season (with the exception of maybe a sturdy umbrella). I’m a huge fan of switching up my lip shades during this brighter time of the year, simply because the warmer temps allow for a bit more wiggle room in the beauty department. Read on to discover 5 Chic Lipsticks Perfect for Spring!

Bobbi Brown Lip Color in “Salmon”

Bobbi Brown "Salmon"

A peachy tone is one of the foremost spring shades. This rich hue from Bobbi Brown is an excellent choice for a day-to-night lip, that’s professional enough for the office. (Sephora, $26, Sephora.com)

Revlon Ultra HD Lipstick in “Iris”

Revlon "Iris"

Revlon’s Ultra HD is one of the most hydrating and moisturizing lipsticks that you can find at your local drugstore. This gel-based formula goes on easily over the lips, and provides long lasting color with a punch. ( Drugstore.com, $8)

Maybelline Color Sensational Lipstick in “Maple Kiss”

Maybelline Color Sensational Lipstick in Maple KissEver since I spotted model, Jourdan Dunn, applying this caramel lip shade on her Instagram page (she’s clearly one of my favorites), I knew I had to try out Maybelline’s Color Sensational in “Maple Kiss”. This neutral is excellent for anyone who’s interested in a more low-key makeup look, or a soft finish to a bolder eye.  (Target, $7.49, Target.com)

NARS Audacious Lipstick in “Claudia”

Although spring is known for being a little bit on the softer side, it’s a good idea now and then to pump up the volume on your look. NARS’ Audacious Lipstick is the perfect name for this line of lip colors that are sure to elevate your everyday beauty routine to glamorous heights. (Sephora, $32, Sephora.com)

Lipstick Queen Frog Prince

Lipstick Queen Frog Prince

Don’t be fooled by the this emerald green lipstick because it is not at all what it appears to be.  Once you apply the ultra moisturizing  sheer green pigment to your lips, the natural coloring and pH level of your lips transforms the lipstick to your perfect shade of  rosebud  pink.  The finish is a semi sheer and a bit glossy.  (SpaceNK.com, $25) [P.S. Are mood changing lipsticks making a comeback?]

What shades have you uncovered for the spring season?

Few things make a statement louder or more beautifully than dash of red across the lip. Countless leading ladies, fashionistas, and influencers have donned the famous hue for red carpet events, mall trips, and parties alike. Nothing rivals the allure of a red lip, so I always keep a tube on hand for those moments when I want to feel unstoppable. Here are 3 of My Favorite Red Lipsticks for Winter and beyond.

Red Lipsticks for Winter

MAC Ruby Woo

Every girl needs at least one good MAC lipstick, and “Ruby Woo” is an excellent choice to keep in your makeup arsenal. A popular choice among most, this red provides a matte statement lip that speaks volumes and makes a major impact. $16

Revlon Super Lustrous Creme Lipstick in “Cherry Blossom”

Allow me a moment to emphasize how much I love Revlon lipsticks. THEY. ARE. AMAZING. This brand provides a high-quality formula in their products which many would be surprised to find at their local drugstore. The Super Lustrous Creme Lipstick line is no exception.  Cherry blossom has a creme finish that seals in color and lasts through most of the day, no re-application necessary.  At $8, it’s really hard to beat.

NARS Velvet Matte Pencil in “Cruella”

I’m going to be completely honest — the main reason I  tried this lip color was due to its nostalgic nomenclature, “Cruella”(I mean, who doesn’t love 101 Dalmatians?!).  This lip pencil is definitely one of the best I’ve tried; application is precise and  it wears ridiculously well.  $25

What red shades are you rocking this winter?

I may change up my look every day, but there are 5 products that are the cornerstone to my makeup routine. I use some form of each of these daily, and without them I feel incomplete. To be honest, I would rather go without makeup entirely than skip one of these  five products.

smashbox cc creamYes I choose foundation over concealer. I can often build up my foundation by stippling it on areas that need more coverage, or sheer it out with a light application. Either way – I need my base! I regularly circulate my old stand-bys with new ones I’m testing, and each season it may look a bit different depending on the weather. But I can assure you, my face is fully covered from ear to ear and forehead to jaw – I love a full face. Right now, I am circulating my Smashbox CC Cream, Guerlain Lingerie de Peau and By Terry Cover Expert.

Cheek Color

Too Faced Chocolate Bronzer LightMediumI initially wrote blush for this next one, but truthfully any cheek color will do. Bronzer, blush, cream or powder, my cheeks need a natural flush. When I worked behind the counter many moons ago, I found that this is the one product most of my clients wanted to skip. Not me! A radiant cheek can brighten up a face quicker than a lip or eye color. For the summer I love my Too Faced Milk Chocolate Matte Bronzer in Light/Medium, Dolce & Gabbana’s blush in Rosebud or Shiseido’s Face Color Enhancing Trio in Peach.

Armani Eyes to Kill MascaraDuh, of course I need mascara. How the heck am I supposed to look awake if my lashes are not defined? I prefer thick, voluminous, jet-black formulas because they can really accentuate my eyes without needing eye liner or shadow. I try tons of different mascaras but  holy grails are Estee Lauder’s Sumptuous Volume Mascara and the Armani Eyes to Kill Mascara.

Brow Pencil

Anastasia Brow WizI will always choose brows over eye shadow because they frame my entire face and give it dimension. And even with a soft, natural look, I still need a slight definition or else my eyes look lost on my face. There is truly only two pencils I trust to get the job done – the Hourglass Arch Brow Sculpting Pencil in Soft Brunette and the Anastasia Brow Wiz in Medium Brown.

I may throw a lip gloss on if I have nothing else, but majority of the time I reach for lipstick. Bold, bright, neutral or natural, I live for a lip color to complete my look. Often I wear my reds and vibrant pinks with a minimal face because I feel it allows the lip to take center stage. For the summer, I like to alternate between a spicy red orange such as Hourglass Opaque Rouge Liquid Lipstick in Raven and a “my lip color but better” shade like Aerin Rose Balm Lipstick in Pretty.

After seasons of show-stopping red, orange is finally having its moment in the spotlight. From pure orange, to coral, to tangerine — it’s all on my must-have list for lips this Spring. And after months of dreary Old Man Winter, rest assured that your pitch-perfect shade of orange will make skin glow like never before. Picking your ideal orange requires a basic understanding of your undertone. See my tips and orange lippie options on Bergdorf Goodman Blog.

What lipsticks are you dying to try?

What is my biggest beauty weakness? Lip products, mainly lipsticks.  If I find a formula I love, I simply have to let everyone know (thank goodness I’m a blogger).  Recently I had the opportunity to try the new MAC Mineralize Rich Lipsticks for the first time, and after wearing them none stop for about a month – I am simply in love.  Below are the shades that have been in regular rotation:

Mineralize Rich ShadesThe shades from left to right are: Style Surge, All Out Gorgeous, Dreaminess and Everyday Diva.  They go on like silk, gliding effortlessly over the lips, while giving an intense color pay off without being difficult to manage.  I often find when wearing full coverage lip sticks with strong pigmentation, applying them can be a bit of a challenge, but the exact opposite was true for these Mineralize lipsticks.  The staying power is slightly less than a true opaque matte or drier formula, but as you can see from the swatches below, the texture is still creamy and moist.

Mineralize Rich Lipstick Swatches

These lipsticks are great for both every day and evening wear because they deliver an even and smooth color and can be built up or sheered out to one’s desired look.  The bullet lipstick is much more precise than other lipstick packaging, so,  applying it on the go is super easy and manageable.

There are 12 amazing shades  in the MAC Mineralize Rich Lipsticks Collection and they are available here. Retail$22.00

Last week, ThisThatBeauty contributor Christene Carr attended the LeSportsac by Pat McGrath launch. Naturally, she has an opinion and an account of the evening’s events:

On June 1st, amidst a tornado warning and 85 degree humid weather, I made my way to the  Mondrain hotel,  in SoHo, to celebrate a collaboration between CoverGirl cosmetics, legendary makeup artist, Pat McGrath and LeSportsac.  From the collaboration comes an eight-piece cosmetic bag collection that is inspired by CoverGirl LipPerfection lipcolor, designed by Pat McGrath and  made by LeSportsac.

I didn’t get a chance to meet  Pat McGrath but knowing that soon I’d be able to touch various pieces from the “Pat McGrath for LeSportsac” collection made my trip worthwhile. The cosmetic bags range in size from small to large and starts at $25 for the kiss case. The kiss case holds up to five lipsticks, considering there are about 46 shades in the Liperfection lip color line all price under $6 per tub, finding 5 complimentary shades will be cake! The largest bag in the collection is  the professional carry-all which will retail for $120.

When I got home I noticed the CoverGirl LipPerfection lipcolor, “Hot Passion” in my press bag…how fitting?  I did an application over bare lips and this is the result. What do you think?

Pat McGrath for LeSportsac will be available through LeSportsac boutiques and online store. Go nuts!

Is it me, or is Pat McGrath, the Grand Dame of makeup, unstoppable? She is truly a collaborative fashion + beauty powerhouse. Her current venture with CoverGirl and LeSportsac is a collection of makeup bags inspired by her favorite shades in CoverGirl’s Lip Perfection collection. Ranging from $25 – $120, I’m thinking there has to be a $50ish dollar makeup travel case with my name on it 😉

The entire collection is available June 2011 via LeSportsac
