More amazing blushes this way –>> Top Picks for The Perfect Blush

We made it through winter, you guys! Though we are not totally beach ready yet, the temps are beginning to warm up and that means one thing – bronzer time! Nothing goes better with bright sunny weather than a healthy radiant glow. And while it’s nice to want to get that tan from the sun, it’s a lot safer if we just fake it. Here’s a look at 3 bronzers you need to try this summer.

Hourglass Ambient Lighting Bronzer

Hourglass Ambient Lighting BronzerAs an avid Hourglass fan, I could not be more excited for this launch. The ambient lighting powders were a groundbreaking product that gave skin that filtered, “lit from within” look that we all covet. The new Hourglass Ambient Lighting Bronzer gives that same effect but with a bronzy, radiant finish. It’s formulated with an innovative Photoluminescent Technology that refracts light and helps to enhance your best features. Imperfections look blurred and smoothed away and what is left is healthy gorgeous skin that looks sunkissed. While it is suitable for slight contouring or highlighting, I prefer this swept over my cheeks as my main blush choice. It has significant pigmentation but can be blended out easily if I apply too much. For those who already love the Hourglass powders, this is a definite must have in your collection. Available in two shades. (Sephora.com $50)

Guerlain Terracotta Four Seasons Bronzer

Guerlain Four Seasons Terracotta BronzerIf there is one thing Guerlain knows how to do – it’s make bronzers. Many brands struggle with creating bronzers for all skin tones, and end up putting out colors that only work for those that fall in the light-medium category. This is where Guerlain is far superior and makes bronzer shades for any and all skin tones from fair to deep. This particular Four Seasons range offers colors that would suit any and every one without looking too orange or too muddy. It imparts the perfect amount of warmth to the skin due to the addition of a pink/red shade in the compact. Never too shiny or too matte, this formula falls right in the middle with respect to shimmer and blends effortlessly on the skin. It’s a bit of a splurge, but worth every penny. Available in 4 shades. (Sephora.com $76)

Too Faced Milk Chocolate Soleil Bronzer

Too Faced Milk Chocolate Soleil Bronzer

While achieving that summer “glow” on the skin is the goal, for many of us with oily skin we want options that can give our faces a bit of color without any shimmer or shine. The Too Faced Milk Chocolate bronzer was an immediate favorite of mine from the first time I used it. It’s a matte texture that manages to look fresh and youthful on the skin without giving an overly powdered effect. The powder is very finely milled and has a smooth feel that translates to a soft and velvety finish to the skin. I can use this both as a contour powder or bronzer, and even after a full day of wear it never oxidizes. It is a perfect bronzer for the summer, but also remains a staple in my makeup routine in the fall and winter because of how natural it makes my skin look. Available in 3 shades. (Sephora.com $30)

Whether you are looking for a skin perfecting type bronzer, a brand with extensive shade ranges or a matte option, there is a bronzer our there for everyone.

What is your favorite bronzer at the moment?

I love the ease of a lip gloss but the finish of a lipstick, so, I was ecstatic when the liquid lipstick trend emerged. Typically most liquid lipsticks are applied by a wand, and have full coverage.  In this post, I will talk about three of my favorite formulas and the differences between them. If you are looking for a long wearing, full coverage lip color, then you must give one of these lip colors a try!

Hourglass Opaque Liquid Lipstick

I know Hourglass was not the first company ever to do liquid lipsticks, but they were the first ones on my radar. I heard tons of buzz surrounding the formula, and had to see what all the fuss was about. The first shade I purchased was Canvas, a neutral rose, I immediately loved the creamy velvety finish. It dries down to a very matte finish, so, exfoliated and hydrated lips are a must prior to application. The applicator is a small doe foot/sponge tip and bends easily, making application is a breeze. I reach for Hourglass Opaque Liquid Lipstick regularly — it would definitely be my top pick for a liquid lipstick. $28

Pros: Easy applicator, creamy texture, beautiful color range, comfortable on the lips.

Cons: Lips must be well hydrated and exfoliated before applying.

 Bite Beauty Cashmere Lip Cream

 bite beauty cashmere lip creams

There is no doubt that Bite Beauty knows lip products – it’s the only type of products that they make! These Cashmere lip creams launched a few years ago and immediately piqued my interest. With the name “cashmere” in the title, I assumed the formula would be velvety and smooth, which it is, but there is definitely a bit more drag or pull with these lip creams. Out of all three mentioned in this post, this is the driest so adding a lip balm throughout the day will be a must. The applicator is a long sponge tip which makes it great for lining around the edge of the lip to get a more precise line, but it can be a bit stiff when using on the rest of the lip. The colors and pigmentation are the most intense I’ve ever tried, so there is absolutely no worry about these coming off. Those looking for the longest wearing lipstick that will make it all day,  Bite Beauty Cashmere Lip Cream is the one for you. $28

Pros: Super long wearing, beautiful color assortment, rich pigmentation, great ingredients.

Cons: Difficult applicator, can drag or pull when applying, lips may need additional moisture throughout the day.

Laura Mercier Paint Wash Liquid Lip Color

These are some of the newest liquid lip colors to hit the market, and while they have many of the same qualities as a traditional liquid lipstick, the formula is just a tad different. Many liquid lipsticks have that prominent matte finish/feel immediately, but the Laura Mercier Paint Washes have a demi-matte finish with a lot more slip and emolliency. The applicator is a standard sponge/doe foot, yet extremely thin and narrow so it aids in making sure the application is precise, which is helpful since the formula is wetter than a traditional matte formula. The pigmentation is very saturated so it will most definitely stain the lips and last all day until you remove it with either an oil cleanser or makeup remover. The color range is beautiful and there are some gorgeous nude shades along with bright shades to appeal to all preferences. I would definitely recommend Laura Mercier Paint Wash Liquid Lip Color for someone that wants the longevity of a matte formula but with a creamy feel.

Pros: Beautiful shade selection, more emollient feel on the lips, super saturated color

Cons: Wetter formula which makes it a bit challenging to apply.

Post New Year’s is never fun. The holiday season is over, the vacations have ended, and (in the case of NY) it’s bitter cold. But the upside is that all the spring beauty releases begin popping up making it easier to get through the January lull. Here is a look at 4 new and upcoming makeup and skincare launches that have caught my eye.

Armani Eye Tints

Armani Eye Tints

I mean, hello?! Would you look at all those beautiful colors? It’s been a while (and I mean a long while) since I have purchased any Armani eye shadows. Nothing has really moved me from the collection in quite some time, except for their Rouge Ecstasy Lipsticks which were launched last year. But as soon as I saw these liquid eye shadows pop up online, I knew I would have to try them. They have quite a high shimmer content, which is normally not my thing, but they can be sheered out to be more wearable for the day. And the fact that there is a great mix of bright colors along with neutral shades makes these an absolute must buy for me. Available at Nordstrom for $38.00.

Perricone Blue Plasma Cleansing Treatment

Perricone Blue Plasma Cleansing Treatment

In case you are new around here, let me catch up you up. I LIVE for Perricone MD’s Blue Plasma. It is a non-acidic daily peel that gives my skin all the great benefits of a regular peel but without any of those harsh side effects (peeling, redness, irritation – yuck). So naturally when I began to see rumors of a possible Blue Plasma cleanser – I was waiting with bated breath. It has officially launched and sounds amazing! It helps to remove skin impurities with stripping the skin, purify pores and preserve hydration. Annnnnnnd it’s great for all skin types even sensitive. Available at Sephora for $39.00.

Benefit Puff Off!

Benefit Puff Off

I have a confession – I want to try this product simply because of the buzz. No other reason. I have seen bloggers and makeup lovers raving about this product and I want in. I do struggle with puffy eyes (mainly because I am a restless sleeper and always end up sleeping on my face – I know, the worst), and that applicator seems so inviting that I just want to put it on my eyes now! Benefit actually describes it as a custom “ironing” tip which is genius. Um, yes I want to iron under my eyes until they are smooth and line free. LOL Clearly their marketing is working – on me that is. Available at Sephora for $29.00.

Hourglass Modernist Eye Palettes

 Hourglass Modernist Eye Palette

I’ve never met an Hourglass product that I don’t love, so of course I am already obsessed with these Hourglass Modernist Eye Palettes and they literally just launched. Between the color range, the aesthetic of the palette and the fact that texture is incredibly smooth and buttery feeling, makes these a must have new spring launch. I had the opportunity to preview these at an Hourglass event the other night so I can confirm that these are swoon-worthy and necessary for your makeup collection. Available at Sephora for $58.00.

I love having oily skin because it will (hopefully) keep me looking young for many years to come, however, having oily skin means that my nice morning glow will turn into a not-so-nice oil slick by the end of the day.  Because my skin is so oily, I am forever in search of the best foundations for oily skin. I look for foundation formulations that can manage shine appropriately and help me to maintain a polished face for most of the day…even during the summer. For this post I’ve picked out 3 of the best foundations for oily skin.

hourglass immaculate liquid powder foundation

Hourglass Immaculate Liquid Powder Foundation

Yes, the hype on this foundation is real. Everyone talks about the miracle that is Hourglass Immaculate Liquid Powder Foundation and they are right. I finally broke down and bought it for myself and absolutely loved it. The texture feels like a whipped powder-y mousse and goes on beautifully. But as it says, it does dry down instantly to a liquid powder making the skin velvety and matte. Some mattifying foundations make the skin look powdery and dry, but this one manages to keep the skin looking luminous while still shine-free. I go between applying with my fingers and with a synthetic foundation brush for the best look. Long wearing and comfortable on the skin, this light to medium coverage foundation is a no-brainer for the summer. Available at Sephora for $55.00.

Smashbox CC Cream

Smashbox Camera Ready CC Cream

This Smashbox CC Cream came out of nowhere and knocked me over with how beautiful it looked on the skin. From the first day I wore it, the color match was perfect, the coverage was lightweight and it kept me MATTE for most of the day! When you first apply it, it goes on slightly dewy but dries down right after to a natural matte finish. I typically wear this for most of my outfit posts on my blog because not only does it look beautiful in person, it always makes my skin look flawless in photos. The shade range is good, not great but if you find your shade, I highly recommend trying this. Available at Sephora for $19.50.

Urban Decay Naked Skin Liquid Foundation

Urban Decay Naked Skin Liquid Makeup

Part of the super popular Naked line for Urban Decay, the Naked Skin Liquid Makeup quickly became a beauty blogger staple. Again so much hype and I was not sure it would live up to the praise. I don’t wear that much Urban Decay so I wasn’t sure I would love this foundation. Update: I LOVE IT. I never know how liquid foundations will wear on my oily skin because so many are meant to be luminous, dewy or radiant – three words I am often afraid of in my face makeup. But this surprised me and became a favorite almost immediatley. It is a lightweight liquid that gives sheer coverage but can be built up to be almost medium to medium full. It gives much more of a natural matte finish rather than complete matte – so those with other skin types would enjoy this as well. I usually apply with a natural hair buffing brush and it gives a beautiful airbrushed finish. And the shade range is quite extensive so there is more than likely something for everyone. Available at Sephora for $39.00.

What are your favorite foundations for oily skin? Any that I missed? Tell me in the comments!

Kerry Washington is one of the hottest celebrities on the planet right now.  After People magazine named the Scandal star  World’s Best Dressed Woman, she showed up on the 2013 Emmy’s Red carpet wearing an ethereal Marchesa gown and reminded us just how she earned the honor.  Kerry’s glow and somewhat fuller bosom had some in social media crying baby.  But lest we get ahead of ourselves and start placing bets on the sex of said baby, I’m pumping my brakes and attributing the beauties glow to the makeup done by Carola Gonzalez using Hourglass cosmetics.  Here’s the scoop:

“The inspiration came from the delicate dress […] Although I like a matte finish, especially for awards shows, I added a radiance to her skin with Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Radiant Light. It’s the perfect shade for Kerry,”  says makeup artist Carola Gonzalez. “

Emmys 2013 Kerry Washington

Prime the skin with Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer, and follow with Hourglass Immaculate Liquid Powder Foundation in warm beige. “I’m really impressed with the airbrushed finish this foundation creates,” says Gonzalez. “And I really don’t need to use powder anymore.” Conceal any imperfections with Clé de Peau Beauté Concealer in honey.

Define the brows with Hourglass Arch Brow Sculpting Pencil in Dark Brunette.

Apply the mauve shimmer shade from Hourglass Visionaire Eye Shadow Duo in Exhibition to the inner corner of the eyes and the lids, and the eggplant shimmer shade to the outer edge of the eye and beneath the bottom lash line. Blend the two shades together. Apply Ardell Natural Lashes in 110, line the eyes with Hourglass Script Precision Liner in Jett, and finish off with three coats of Hourglass Film Noir Full Spectrum Mascara.

Apply Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Radiant Light on the cheekbones, forehead, nose and chin. Apply Lancôme Blush Subtil in Sparkling Rose to the apples of the cheeks and sweep towards the temples.

Prep lips earlier with Hourglass No. 28 Lip Treatment Oil for superior hydration. Apply Hourglass Extreme Sheen Lip Gloss in Truth, a beige rose, for the finishing touch.

Makeup:  Polly Osmond for Hourglass

The Scoop:  Inspired by a recent trip to Isla Mujeres on Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula, and the destination’s exuberant color palette, the Christian Siriano Spring 2014 collection features vivid prints, woven raffias, and sculptural organzas all in vibrant hues. Siriano “wanted the collection to be light, feminine and romantic […] like the girl left the beach but she had a cocktail party to go to, and threw on a dress, a bright lip, and little highlighter.”

#TTBFaves: Every month, the ThisThatBeauty Girls share their favorite beauty products from the previous month. Today I share my top picks from June…

Estee Lauder Modern Muse FragranceEstee Lauder Modern Muse

Why I love it: Just as with makeup, I seek out fragrances that are great to wear any season. It’s nice to have specific scents for certain times of the year, but I love having a fragrance that is timeless. Estee Lauder’s Modern Muse is this scent – timeless and classic.

Who It Might Work for and Why: This is Estee Lauder’s first fragrance launch since Beyond Paradise, released in 2003, which alone is reason enough to be excited. They describe a Modern Muse as a independent and self-confident woman, sure of herself and her style, and this is most definitely apparent in the notes. Sparkling jasmine is the first note to hit you, followed by mandarin, fresh lily and honeysuckle, and then drying down to reveal notes of patchouli, vanilla and amber musk. Those who enjoy a sweet, floral scent will find this a permanent staple in their fragrance wardrobe.

Bottom Line: For those of you looking for a new fresh scent, Modern Muse is the perfect fragrance to add to your collection.

Available this Fall at esteelauder.com.

Dermalogica oil free matte SPF 30Dermalogica Oil Free Matte SPF 30

Why I love it: Here at TTB, we take skincare very seriously, and when something makes it way to a “favorite” post, we mean business. This daily moisturizer was a recent find, and has been in my morning regimen ever since.

Who it might work for and why: As the name implies, this moisturizer is perfect for those with oily skin, or frankly anyone in the summer who suffers from shine. It leaves the skin damp when first applied but dries to a natural matte finish. While it may be oil free, it also does a great job of hydrating the skin and keeping it refreshed all day. I typically wear it under makeup and it wears beautifully, addressing any stubborn dry patches I may have (stupid hormonal skin) and acting as a great base to apply foundation.

Bottom Line: Though it is ideally targeted towards oily-skinned individuals, I think that this daily lotion would be suitable for most skin types to wear. With the added bonus of the high SPF, you can be sure it will keep your skin looking great while also protecting it from the sun.

Available for $48.00 on Dermstore.com.

Hourglass-Arch-Sculpting-Brow-PencilHourglass Brow Sculpting Pencil

Why I love it: I know what you may be thinking – an eyebrow pencil as a monthly fave? And I would respond with an enthusiastic – YES! The ease of this pencil is what makes it a monthly favorite – it has made filling in my eyebrows the part of my morning makeup routine that I actually look forward to.

Who it might work for and why: ANYONE WITH EYEBROWS! I have used many eyebrow products – pencils, gels, powders and I thought I was doing just fine. That was until I tried the Hourglass eyebrow pencil – and then realized I had been missing out. The texture of the pencil is what got me first – it is a waxy texture that goes on smoothly and evenly – making filling in easier than ever. The second feature that I loved was the angled shape of the pencil. It allows me to effortlessly follow the line of my brows without any need for concealer correction, and the brush on the other end of the pencil is great at smoothing out the color to make it look natural. As if these two features weren’t enough to lure me in, the color is the perfect shade for my dark hair. And having tried this for the first time during the summer months, I can attest to this product’s ability to withstand sweat and heat – two of makeup’s biggest enemies.

Bottom Line: Though the color range is limited (only 3 shades available), I have spoken to a few different people with varying hair colors, and all seem to find a shade to match their brows. If there is one brow product to invest in, I would make it this.

Available for $32.00 at Sephora.com.

Who: Jessica Alba

What: 70th Annual Golden Globes

Makeup: Hourglass Cosmetics

Inspiration: The glamorous mother of two, a presenter at the awards ceremony, wore a gorgeous peach-colored gown by Oscar de la Renta. “The dress was the inspiration,” says makeup artist Lauren Andersen. “I loved the contrast between her glowing skin and the matte orange lip. It’s an almost tropical pop of color that’s not an exact match for the dress but close.”

Lauren prepped the skin with Hourglass No. 28 Primer Serum, and followed with Hourglass Illusion Tinted Moisturizer in Sand. She then used Hourglass Hidden Corrective Concealer in Warm under the eyes, down the bridge of the nose and fanned the product out in the center of the forehead to create dimension. She finished the skin step with the new Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Radiant Light (coming spring 2013) applied all over to create a golden, subtle warmth. “It’s a soft, refined shimmer that’s glowy,” says Lauren.

She used the bronze shade from Hourglass Illume Crème-to-Powder Bronzer Duo in Sunset to contour the cheeks and followed with the blush shade on the apples of the cheeks.

Hourglass Film Noir Kohl Eye Pencil in Espresso was first applied to the outer corners of the eyes and then smudged it with a brush. Lauren then applied Hourglass Superficial Waterproof Bronzer in the crease of the eyes and the gold shade from Hourglass Visionaire Eye Shadow Duo in Dune on the lids. Lashes were treated to several coats of Hourglass Film Noir Full Spectrum Mascara. She finished up by amplifying the brows with Hourglass Arch Sculpting Brow Pencil in Soft Brunette.

Finally, Hourglass Opaque Rouge Liquid Lipstick in Riviera, a vibrant tangerine shade, was applied to the lips. The velvety matte color delivers richly pigmented and long-lasting coverage for up to 14 hours.

Who: Emily Blunt

What: 70th Annual Golden Globes

Makeup:  Hourglass Cosmetics

Inspiration:  In a gilded dress by Michael Kors, Emily Blunt more than lived up to her reputation as a Hollywood golden girl. The actress, nominated in the Best actress, Musical or Comedy category for Salmon Fishing In The Yemen, “definitely had something in mind as far as the look,” says makeup artist Jenn Streicher. “Emily wanted smoky eyes paired with soft pink lips that echoed her Lorraine Schwartz ruby earrings.”

How to:

Jenn began by using Kate Somerville Quench Hydrating Face Serum, La Mer The Moisturizing Soft Cream and La Mer Eye Concentrate. She then primed the skin with Hourglass No. 28 Primer Serum, and followed with Hourglass Illusion Tinted Moisturizer in Ivory. She used two shades of Hourglass Hidden Corrective Concealer: Fair, a light shade, was used around the nose and as a highlighter, and Sand, a slightly darker shade, was applied under the eyes. Jenn completed the skin by applying the new Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Radiant Light  (coming spring 2013) all over the complexion. Available in six different lighting settings, Ambient delivers a multi-dimensional luminescence to the complexion by capturing, diffusing and softening surrounding light. “It softens and enhances everything,” says Jenn.

Jenn applied Hourglass Superficial Waterproof Bronzer all over the face and neck to create a radiant glow. She then used the bronzer shade from Hourglass Illume Crème-to-Powder Bronzer Duo in Sunset to contour the cheeks and jaw line. The blush shade from Illume was applied onto the cheekbones.

She started by lining eyes with Hourglass Film Noir Kohl Eye Pencil in Espresso and softened the line with a brush. Jenn then applied the shell shimmer shade from Hourglass Visionaire Eye Shadow Duo in Gypsy as a highlight on the brow bone and followed with a matte brown eye shadow on the lid. Hourglass Film Noir Full Spectrum Mascara was applied to the lashes to volumize, lengthen and separate them. She then amplified the brows with Hourglass Arch Sculpting Brow Pencil in Soft Brunette.

Lips were infused with a beautiful wash of color courtesy of Hourglass Femme Rouge Velvet Crème Lipstick in Edition, a soft pink shimmer.

Ahh, contouring. Too much and you’ll likely to be mistaken for a contestant on RuPaul’s drag race….But, too little, and: “girl, have you put on a couple of lbs.?” But just the right amount of contour — Oh, it’s a thing of sculpted, lifted, highlighted beauty. I did a simple little video to show you how!

Who: Zooey Deschanel

What: 64th Annual Emmy Awards

Makeup Artist: Jorjee Douglas

Inspiration:  “She’s a risk-taker who follows her instincts,” says makeup artist Jorjee Douglass, who created a beautiful makeup look to offset her striking blue Reem Acra dress, and her glossy raven locks.

Complexion: Jorjee began by priming the skin with Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer, and followed with Hourglass Illusion Tinted Moisturizer in Ivory. Hourglass Hidden Corrective Concealer was utilized in two different shades – Fair and Pearl. She finished the skin with Hourglass Oxygen Mineral Powder in #1.

Cheeks: She applied Hourglass Aura Sheer Cheek Stain in Flush, topped with Dior’s Rosy Glow in 001 petal.

Eyes: She started with the light shimmer shade of Hourglass Vol. 6 Eye Palette across the whole lid, then contoured the crease of the eye with the brown and black colors; and finally, blended the whole lid with the pink. She then shimmered the entire lid with Beauty is Life Everest.

She framed the eyes using Hourglass Calligraphy Liquid Eye Liner in Ebony and Hourglass Script Precision Liquid Liner. She lined the top in a cat shape bringing it out past the lid and the lashes. Lining under the eyes, she went from the middle of the eye and straight out –making it a princess version of Cleopatra’s eye. She finished the eyes with false lashes and Hourglass Film Noir Lash Lacquer.

Lips: Jorjee completed the look with Hourglass Opaque Rouge Liquid Lipstick in Ballet.

I can’t decide. Is Hourglass Flim Noir Lash Lacquer revolutionary or evolutionary?

Revolutionary: because it represents a development within the lash category that does not currently exist.

Evolutionary: because it’s radically new and showcases a dramatic change outside of what’s presently offered.

The groundbreaking lash product is unlike anything I have ever seen in the beauty space. The inky, glossy, pitch-black top coat for lashes exaggerates the lash line to mimic the look of faux lashes without the hassle of weighty lashes or irritating adhesive.

A product launch this (R)Evolutionary deserves your full attention. Today, July 15, Hourglass Film Noir Lash Lacquer ($28) launches exclusively at Sephora and Sephora.com. With that said, I’ll stand aside — *stampede*
