While in LA, Team ThisThatBeauty made the Hourglass Cosmetics flagship store in Venice a must stop destination on our #TTBToursLA tour! We were super fortunate to join forces with the Mixed Makeup team and recreate the Oscar De la Renta Spring 2015 Look with Hourglass Cosmetics.

Hourglass Backstage at Oscar de la Renta, ThisThatBeautyHourglass Oscar SS 15 with ThisThatBeauty

When the models walked down the runway at the Oscar de la Renta S/S 2015 Fashion Show, we saw two things: Gorgeous gowns and equally gorgeous makeup. Thanks to the handiwork of makeup artist Gucci Westman for Hourglass Cosmetics, we can’t stop thinking about glowing skin, graphic liner and beautiful berry lips. It’s a gorgeous makeup look that anyone can wear with the right tips and tools.” – @susanyara / @mixedmakeup

We must extend a very special thanks to the entire Hourglass Team, but specifically Laura Janes – Hourglass Global Brand Ambassador & National Makeup Artist and Vanessa Eckles – Hourglass Makeup Artist….Bravo, ladies!

GET THE LOOK

COMPLEXION: Prep skin with Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer and follow with Hourglass Veil Fluid Makeup for a naturally radiant complexion. Conceal any dark circles or imperfections with Hourglass Hidden Corrective Concealer.

CHEEKS: Create a seamless, soft-focus glow with Hourglass Ambient Lighting Palette. Lightly contour with Radiant Light, a sun-kissed golden beige. Then apply Ambient Lighting Blush in Radiant Magenta, to the apples of the cheek. Finish up by highlighting with Incandescent Light.

EYES: Sweep Hourglass Calligraphy Liquid Eye Liner along the upper lash line, flicking the liner up and out. Repeat the application to create a thicker line. Follow with Hourglass 1.5MM Mechanical Gel Eye Liner to enhance the black tone. Finish up with two or three coats of Hourglass Film Noir Full Spectrum Mascara on the top lashes.

BROWS: Perfect arches with Hourglass Arch Brow Sculpting Pencil.

LIPS: Prep lips earlier with Hourglass No. 28 Lip Treatment Oil. Apply Hourglass Opaque Rouge Liquid Lipstick in Empress, a deep aubergine shade, and use your fingers to diffuse the color. Finish with a dab of Hourglass No. 28 Lip Treatment Oil for a subtle sheen.

Cop the look!

LEAD ARTIST: James Kaliardos for NARS Cosmetics

TREND: Windblown, bronzed skin
DESIGNER INSPIRATION: “We were inspired by Australia for this collection,” say Rodarte designers Kate and Laura Mulleavy. “We wanted to reference Aboriginals, the outback, and the Dust Bowl, along with a Victorian reference and bring them together in a rugged way.”
LOOK: “The look is dusty and windblown, bronzed, but not in too glam of a way,” said James Kaliardos for NARS Cosmetics. “The skin is contoured with a strong lip.”

Cop the look!
LEAD ARTIST:
James Boehmer, NARS Director of Global Artist
TREND:
Precise, sharply drawn eyes
DESIGNER INSPIRATION:
“Italian actress Monica Vitti inspired me,” said the designer Naeem Kahn. “I wanted to do a collection that referenced Italy in the 1960s…a beautiful time.”
LOOK:
“The look is all about the precision, sharpness, and blackness of the line,” said James Boehmer, NARS Director of Global Artistry. “Everything else has that ‘barely there’ feeling. The eye line has to be really sharp and pointed up towards the temple – it’s not a cat eye, and it’s not a wide eye. It draws the eyes up.”

One of my favorite runway looks this season, by far, was the look created by DeShawn Hatcher for Becca Cosmetics at VENEXIANA. The 20’s/ 30’s retro vibe set to a modern 2012 landscape captured my heart right from the start. Ms. Hatcher shares the beauty deets on her catwalk creation:

For complexion:

First we used Becca Resurfacing primer in the t zone, then Becca’s concealer only where needed. To finish off the look I used Becca mineral powder foundation dry.

For Eyes:

The technique was a Semi Smokey Eye using Becca’s Lost Weekend/Prairie Moon palette (the darkest colors in both palettes–more to the outside corners of the eyes, instead of all over the lid, paired with top and bottom, spikey lashes, eyes lined (top and bottom inner rims and top bottom lids) in Becca’s Intense Black automatic pencil.

For Face:

A wash of blush in Estella concentrating on the apples of the cheeks–a beautiful coral color.

For Lips:

Lips were unlined and concentrating only in the center of the lip. I used Becca’s Lip and Cheek creme in Petal, and a beautiful Glossy Tint in Frappe–this is also a beautiful coral lip color to coordinate with the blush.

Now this is how you kick off Mercedes Benz Fashion Week. I’ll tell the story later, but for now…here I am with the #LEGEND herself, Ms Joan Rivers. Can we talk?!

This post is written by ThisThatBeauty Contributor Nicole Marie Melton. @NMeltonMedia

Backstage at Organic by John Patrick — The looks created by the Aveda were all about keeping it natural and textured.  The Fall collection by Patrick included cozy knit sweaters and wooly plaids in deep earth tones of browns and grays. Minimal hair and makeup created a perfect balance.  I caught up with head makeup artist Janell Geason who gave me the scoop on the inspiration behind the makeup.   Geason summed the look up by saying “It was really about beautiful, hydrated, luminous skin. Less is more is definitely in this approach”.

Models were prepped with Aveda Inner-Light Tinted Moisturizer.  For eyes, Aveda Petal Essence Eye Color Trio in Gobi Sands was brushed lightly onto the lids.  Aveda Nourish-Mint Sheer Mineral Lip Color in Sheer Filaree was used on the lip, along with a dab of Aveda Lip Glaze in Morning Rose in the center of the pout to add fullness and a touch of shine.  Geason said that recreating this look is perfect for fall because “it has a little more hydration at a time when your skin tends to be a little drier.”

The beautifully bare makeup look was paired with loose, messy hair  — which continues the natural essence of the show.  Head hairstylist Antoinette Beenders assembled the undone look by prepping the hair with the Aveda Pure Abundance Hair Potion and finishing it off with the Air Control Hair Spray, which gave a really nice roughness to the hair.  No blow driers, curling irons, or flat irons were used to create the look, which makes it easy to recreate, and perfect for heading out of the door in a flash.

Would you give up all you love and hold dear for an opportunity to go behind the scenes at Milan S/S 2010 Fashion Week?

Yea, I kinda would too (but no really). So to prevent you from pawning your prized possessions or doing something crazy….allow me to lift the curtain and take you backstage. Behold, backstage makeup for Milan Fashion Week S/S 2010.

*********************

For Milan, low key beauty ruled the runway…natural complexions, soft smoky eyes and glossy lips. Basically wearable make-up trends similar to what we see in New York. Shades like light browns, greys, bronze and copper were all part of the color palette.

Aside from Emporio Armani and Versace there was very little use of color on the runway.

Hola Beautiful —

I hope everyone had a fantastic Valentine’s Day.  Mine was perfectly swell and filled with lots of fun happenings….Fashion Week coverage, nice dinner, and cocktails with some of the baddest Beauty Bloggers known to wo-man.
I was particularly pleased as punch (say that three times fast) to meet my Beauty Blog first love, Lianne Farbes a.k.a. TheMakeupGirl. Lianne’s blog is the very first beauty blog I ever read.  And I’ll share a closely guarded secret with you….

TheMakeupGirl actually inspired me to start ThisThatBeauty after I was not chosen to be a guest blogger on her site.

After being rejected, a good friend (Hi Shana!) encouraged me to see the rejection as an opportunity to start my own beauty blog. So I picked myself up, wiped away my runny mascara, touched up my foundation…and the rest is her-story :)
I shared this story with Lianne and we both had a hearty laugh!  So ya see, tis true what “they” say about one door closing and another one opening.  Keep knocking…a door’s bound to open!
While it was a great honor to finally meet Lianne, it was also a great pleasure because she was exactly as I’d hoped – an all around class act and a whole lotta fun!  Lianne and I chatted over cocktails and had a really nice time. I’m pretty much a newbie to our Total Beauty Blog Network so I really appreciated Lianne’s warm welcome and kind words of encouragement and advice.
Here I am below with the very lovely Lianne. Good times!

OK ladies (and my few random gents:)) it’s confession time.

I have adult acne. There! I’ve said it.

For the most part, my dermatologist approved routine has my nasty breakouts under control. But lately, maybe its stress or maybe its hormonal….who the heck knows??? But lately, I’ve been getting the most disgustingly painful deep under the skin cysts that drive me CRAZY!!!
These dastardly intruders come one by one and as soon as one fades, another appears. I haven’t been cystic acne free for months. These bad boys just keep cropping up. Personally I think its stress. My days and nights are filled with the stressful burden of contemplating life’s great obstacles like…

“What will I wear to Fashion Week”
      “Which shows will I see”
“Will the DVF and Barbie show invitations EVER arrive”????

See! My days and nights are heavy with stress! Which keeps these darn glaciers steady popping up on my face.
But “painful acne cysts”, you have met your match. Please allow me to rain on acne’s parade and introduce you to:

This little bottle of acne cyst assassin has been a God send. I just started using it the day before yesterday on a terrible lower chin cyst and in a matter of 24 hours it began shrinking the intruder. My chin area started out red, swollen and tender to the touch. And now, after a little more than 24 hours of use, the cyst has reduced considerably and is drying up. This is a major improvement over my usual cyst healing time. It normally takes several weeks for a cyst to calm down and start to vanish. But with Renee Rouleau’s Anti Cyst Treatment, cysts begin to vanish and heal very quickly. I was hooked after just 24 hours. I’ve never had a cyst begin healing that quickly. I cant wait to see the Anti Cyst treatment in action at the onset of a fresh cyst in its infancy…which, given my current stress level, will likely be in a couple of days :(

In the meantime, yall give Renee Rouleau’s Anti Cyst Treatment a try.
      Stay beautiful :)
