For the last two weeks, I have been sporting a brightly charged nail lacquer….everywhere I go, bellas inquire. Sadly (bad, Beauty Girl) I was uncertain of the name and unable to pass on the recommendation. I jokingly dubbed the neon nail shade “Faux-Mosa”…the wild child third cousin of Chanel Le Vernis Mimosa. But today’s your lucky day, beauties. I have just returned from the nail salon, with new bleu painted toes, and complete deets on the yellow shade. Behold, Dante Nail Color in Neon Spotlight:

For his latest collection, Les Contrastes, global creative director of Chanel Makeup, Peter Philips, pays tribute to the brand’s Joues Contraste blusher, with eyes and lips made to match, achieving “perfect harmony”. Soft smoky greys make the eyes are the focal point. The collection also features shimmering pigments of khaki and violet for the eyes. Dark, expertly groomed brows contrast against the luminous rosy complexion. Nude, glossy lips complete the look. Meet the collection:

It’s time for another installment of “ThisThatBeauty Nails It”.

I love how I announce the upcoming installment of “ThisThatBeauty Nails It” as if this is actually a regularly occurring series. Like I’m actually churning out lacquer reviews on a somewhat consistent basis. Shame on me. The nerve! Tis true…my lacquer lovin’ is lacking. I am seriously slackin’ on my polish pimpin’.

<steps into confessional booth>

Dearest ThisThatBeauty readers:

It has been five months and seven days since my last installment of “ThisThatBeauty Nalis It”. Sure, I mentioned NARS Purple Rain polish as part of the Spring Collection rundown. And recently I dished colorful deets on the OPI Hong Kong Collection just last month. But much time has passed since a wrote a good old fashioned “ThisThatBeauty Nails It” lacquer review. I promise to do better!

In an effort to “do better“, I am bringing on guest blogger and lacquerholic, Aina Lee. A “lacquerholic” is not just what Aina is, it is also the name of her popular nail polish blog. I am delighted to welcome Laquerholic to ThisThatBeauty. So without further adieu, here is Lacquerholic’s review of “Re-Fresh Mint” from China Glaze Spring 2010 Collection – Up Up and Away.

The bright and pastel polishes of the Up Up and Away collection transport me back to those carefree summer days when I played in Central Park as a kid.  The youthful hued collection also makes me think of the classic song by the 5th Dimension of the same name.  “Up, Up and Away in my beautiful balloon”, but I digress

The shade “Re-Fresh Mint” is just that….a refreshing minty green pastel that is a bit lighter than Essie’s Mint Candy Apple. For the image in this post I applied three coats of polish (no top coat). The formula is somewhat off an oddity as it is thick, yet slightly runny. In terms of application method, I found that the faster I applied each coat, the better the end result. Applying the polish at a snail’s pace will result in unsightly streaks. I tried to keep the coats thin and as neat as possible. This was a bit of a challenge as I’ve never been one of those kids who could paint inside the lines!

As for the shade of the polish, I really like it.  Mint green polish was never top of my list…even as the craze swept a few months back with shades like DamoneRoberts 1968 and Chanel Jade. I tend to favor dark vampy polishes. I was not sure I would like “Re-Fresh Mint” against my skin-tone, but was pleasantly surprised. I am really glad that I gave in to the craze! If you desire to go green, get “Refresh-Mint” at  beauty e-tailers like Sally Beauty Supply. Get it while it’s hot!

Chanel 2010 Spring Colour Collection – LES IMPRESSIONS DES CHANEL

Inspired by marks and imprints left behind during the life of Mademoiselle Coco Chanel, Peter Philips, global creative director of Chanel make-up, has created a timeless collection capturing the brand’s elegant signature style and classic allure.

From an imprint of Gabrielle Chanel’s hand on a sheet of paper to various representations of her portrait, morsels of her timeline have been infused into the new range to portray a look of gentle illumination and soft eyes. Femininity is celebrated with a fresh complexion and highlighted cheekbones in a look that encompasses all that Mademoiselle Chanel represented.

The palette pays most notable homage to beige – the shade of choice in so many of Coco Chanel’s clothing lines. Natural, muted shades arrive on the lips in delicate daubs of pink and brown, while eyes are subtly emphasised in metallic plum, satin vanilla and caramel.

  • Empreinte de Chanel: A pearly face powder made up of rosewood, beige and brown tones with a pearly gold double C imprint
  • Joues Contraste: A delicate rosewood-coloured powder blusher in Imprévu
  • Poudre Universelle Compacte: A pressed powder in Beige Clair
  • Soleil Tan De Chanel Fluide Enlumineur Effet Irisé: A light dewy cream to impart skin with a radiance glow. Comes in SunKissed
  • Les 4 Ombres: Eyeshadow palette in Kaska Beige with four new shades: a caramel beige with golden sparkles, a satiny vanilla, a matte taupe brown and a metallic plum brown
  • Ombre Essentielle: Two new shades include Sillage, a rosy beige and Trace, a bronze brown
  • Ombre d’Eau: A fluid iridescent khaki eyeshadow in Torrent
  • Le Crayon Yeux: Eye definer in Khaki Doré, a khaki brown tone
  • Rouge Allureb: Four new lip shades in: Impertinente, a beige pink; Délicieuse, a beige with amber tones; Insouciante, beige with dark brown accents and Incognito, a rosewood beige
  • Lèvres Scintillantes: Two lipglosses in Futile, a pale pink and Maline, a light peach
  • Le Crayon Lèvres: Lip pencil in Beige
  • Le Vernisb: Three nail colours including Inattendu, a beige; Particulière, a red brown, and Tendresse, a soft pink

Baby its cold outside but the bitter chill that is characteristic of January never stops the makeup obsessed from looking forward to Spring makeup trends. Like clockwork, every season about this time, Spring collections are launched. This season you will see many emerging color stories and trends.

One Spring theme to catch my attention is the look of healthy, sun-kissed make-up. The skin glows with a warm radiance. Expect lots of terracotta bronzers and blushers swept over the face. The makeup is fresh and natural. Eyes are softly touched with color and lips are delicately stained with neutral shades. Feast your eyes on the upcoming collections that embrace the Spring trend of sun-kissed skin.
