2012 Emmys

Who: Julianna Margulies

What: 64th Annual Emmy Awards

Makeup Artist: Molly Stern

Inspiration: Molly was inspired by Julianna’s Giambattista Valli couture gown which looked like an impressionist painting. For her look, she wanted to keep with that painterly theme and make her face look like it was done with watercolors vs. makeup.

Molly’s step-by-step:

  • First, I prepped Julianna’s skin with By Terry Rose de Balm Serum to give her natural complexion dew and glow.
  • Next, I sparingly applied L’Oréal Paris Visible Lift Repair Absolute Foundation only where she needed it.
  • On her cheeks, I contoured using HOURGLASS Illume Sunset Cream Bronzer Duo and highlighted her bone structure with NARS Sex Appeal Blush.
  • For her eyes I based the lid with L’Oréal Paris Infallible Never Fail Lacquer Liner 24H in Slate which is the most perfect gray I’ve ever used.
  • Over top and up into the crease, I dusted a combination of L’Oréal Paris Infallible Eye Shadow in Sultry Smoke mixed with NARS Ecstasy Pressed Shadow.
  • Under the eye I smudge the L’Oréal Paris Infallible Never Fail Lacquer Liner 24H in Slate and highlighted the under inner eye with a spot of gold using L’Oréal Paris Infallible Eye Shadow in Amber Rush.
  • Lastly, I topped off her lashes with L’Oréal Paris Voluminous Power Volume 24H Mascara in Black.
  • On her lips to keep with the wash of color, I pressed into her pout L’Oréal Paris Colour Caresse by Colour Riche Luminous Lipcolour in Merino Mauve to give them an earthy pinky/peach hue.

Hair Stylist: Adir Abergel

Inspiration: Adir was inspired by the simple lines of the dress and wanted to mimic it with the hair. He went for a shiny, healthy texture that reflected light and had strong lines to it. A deep side part swept back into a classic chignon placed right in the middle of the head gave the illusion of a longer neck.

Adir’s step-by-step:

  • First, I started out by having the hair freshly washed with L’Oréal Paris EverCréme Intense Nourishing Shampoo and Conditioner.  This is an important step to get as much shine and hydration to the hair.
  • I applied L’Oréal Paris EverStyle Smooth & Shine Serum from roots to ends to seal the cuticle and to help get a smooth finish.
  • I followed the arch of the eyebrow to place my deep side parting.
  • I then took a round brush and blow dried the hair until it was completely dry.
  • Once it was completely smooth and dry, I applied L’Oréal Paris EverStyle Smooth & Shine Crème to the ends and went over them with a flat iron to flatten the cuticle and create as much shine as possible.
  • Before pulling the hair into a ponytail, placed right in the middle of the head, I applied some Frederic Fekkai Brilliant Glossing Cream.  This helped me tame any flyaways and created extra shine.
  • To finish the look, I wrapped the ponytail  around its base into a bun making sure it wasn’t too tight, pinned it in place and had a few of the ends showing.  This gave it a little softness I was looking for.
  • For all night hold, I finished with L’Oréal Paris Elnett Satin Extra Strong Hold Hairspray.

Who: Christina Hendricks

What: 64th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards

Hair Stylist: Gregory Russell  for John Frieda

Inspiration:  Taking inspiration from Christina’s platinum Christian Siriano dress, celebrity stylist, Gregory Russell created big Hollywood waves for the red carpet. Russell described Christina’s look as “sophisticated old Hollywood Glamour.

  Step 1 – Texturize

On dry hair, apply Frizz-Ease® Curl Reviver Styling Mousse ($5.99 at drugstores) to 1″ sections until all of the hair has been covered. This is to build texture while taming frizz. Brush hair using a Mason Pearson flat brush to dry out the mousse and create volume.

Step 2 – Secure the Style

Take hair in 1″ sections, spray with Frizz-Ease® Moisture Barrier Firm-Hold Hair Spray ($5.99 at drugstores) and wrap around a 1″ barrel curling iron. Pin each curl and let them set for 45 minutes. Brush out each curl and then backcomb the underneath to add extra fullness and shape.

Step 3 – Polish

Use a dime size amount of Frizz-Ease® Secret Weapon® Flawless Finishing Crème ($5.99 at drugstores) through the bangs to create perfect definition and added shine. To finish, mist a thin coat of hairspray in an even, all-around motion, to set the look.

Makeup Artist: Vanessa Scali

Inspiration:  I was inspired by the soft, feminine look of the dress and its cool, shimmery neutral color against her skin. I kept her face soft and romantic, but added contrast and strength with a bold lip color.”

Cheeks: Hourglass Aura Sheer Cheek Stain in Flush was applied to the apples of the cheeks blending outward to the cheekbones.

Eyes: For definition and intensity, she lined her eyes with Hourglass Calligraphy Liquid Liner in Ebony at the base of the lashes and on the inside top rim of the eye. Using the lighter shade from Hourglass Visionaire Eye Shadow Duo in Gypsy, she swept the color from the lash line to the eye brow. Then, she used a touch of the deeper shade blending it well, from the lash line to just above the crease and swept past the natural outer corner to exaggerate and elongate the eye. This color continues very subtly under the bottom lashes. She finished the eyes with lush, flirty lashes – Hourglass Film Noir Full Spectrum Mascara was used all over the lashes and Hourglass Film Noir Lash Lacquer concentrated on the center of the lashes.

Lips: She gave Christina a bold, strong lip with Hourglass Opaque Rouge Liquid Lipstick in Icon.
