Skincare and Haircare the Whole Foods Way

I have to admit that when I visit Whole Foods  Market I very rarely enter the cosmetic, body or skincare aisle. I know that they have great products for hair and skin but I seem to be conditioned to stick to the food section, but really, who can blame me? The food is amazing!

I can count on one hand the number of times I have visited the body care section of Whole Foods, and I recognize that I may be an anomaly. Everyone else I know that shops Whole Foods, raves about the selection of products for hair and skin. Even celebrities are getting in on the action. Recently, Brooke Burke was spotted shopping at a Whole Foods in California.  I can tell she is a savvy shopper because even though she is at Whole Foods, she is checking out the most important area on any product packaging, the label. I got to thinking, what am I really missing out on at Whole Foods? Let the discovery begin!

Alba Botanica

Brooke is pictured here with Alba Botanica Very Emolient Body Lotion –  Alba Botanica Very Emollient Body Lotion is rich in botanicals and contains emollients and humectants that are clinically proven to relief dry, itchy skin.  This lotion also nourishes the skin with aloe vera, green tea and chamomile extracts plus antioxidants.

Price: $12 (12oz), $24.45 (32oz), available at Whole Foods Market,  www.albabotanica.com  and other  Natural Grocery Stores.

Alba Botanica manufactures a full line of all natural products for face, hair and body.

Avalon Organics

Avalon Organics Tea Tree Shampoo and Conditioner

When it comes to hair care I will go anywhere to find a good product. My hair is coarse but my scalp is extremely sensitive and when it comes in contact with an ingredient it doesn’t like, it itches  beyond  belief. I recently received Avalon Organics Tea Tree Scalp Treatment Shampoo and Conditioner and my scalp likes them both. No matter what is happening with my hair I only shampoo once. I hate the feeling of over shampooed hair. If it feels squeaky and stripped it will inevitable be a tangled mess once it is rinsed. Avalon Organics Tea Tree Scalp Treatment Shampoo leaves my hair feeling clean but with enough natural oils that it doesn’t have an overly clean feeling. The shampoo is formulated with  Beta Glucan,  Vitamin E, Oat,  Wheat Protein  and of course  Tea Tree Oil.  I also really like the conditioner, it does an excellent job, at not only moisturizing my hair but also at detangling (which is no small feat.)    In addition to Tea Tree oil, the conditioner  contains    Shea Butter,  Calendula,  Vitamin E,  Eucalyptus,  Wheat Protein  to nourish, balance and moisturize hair. $10.50 each.

Avalon Organics has a full line of products for hair, skin, bath, body and baby.  Products are  available at Whole Foods Market,  www.avalonorganics.com  and other natural grocery Stores. Prices vary.

Giovanni

2chic Avocado & Olive Oil Ultra-Moist Deep Deep Moisture Hair Mask

I have only tried a couple of Giovanni products, one of my favorites is the 2chic Avocado & Olive Oil Ultra-Moist Deep Deep Moisture Hair Mask. As the name suggests, it is formulated with avocado and olive and provides deep moisture to the hair.  I like this mask  because it works in minutes to  improve rough texture of hair, improves elasticity to reduce and even prevent breaks and split ends. $8.99

Giovanni Cosmetics manufactures a full line of hair products for all hair types and concerns.  Products are  available at Whole Foods Market,  www.Giovanniocosmetics.com  and other retailers.  Prices vary.

Dr HauschkaDr Hauschka Cleansing Milk

The more I use Dr Hauschka products the more I love them.  Dr Hauska’s Cleansing milk is great for removing makeup but is gentle enough to be used by those with sensitive skin. It contains fermented grain extract to help dissolve and lift away dirt and other impurities. Jojoba and sweet almond oil helps my skin to maintain  its moisture, leaving it soft and supple. Anthyllis extract tones and balances skin while  Bentonite clay soothes and cools irritation.  Though this is great at dissolving makeup, my favorite way to use it is in the morning  when I need a gentle cleanser that will wake up my skin and give me a mositure boost to take me through the day. $36.95

Dr Hauschka manufactures cosmetics (see a makeup review  here) and full line of all natural products for face, hair and body. Products are  available at Whole Foods Market,  www.drhauschka.com,  and other retailers.  Prices vary.

Note to self, “the next time you are in Wholefoods, look at more than just the organic produce.”

  • The Desert Essence Pomegranate Age Reversal Serum is awesome! I have very finicky, sensitive, breakout-prone skin, and this stuff works great for me! I layer it under a moisturizer, but if you’re oily, it’s probably be great on its own!

I also like using Olivella or Kiss My Face olive oil soap on my face.
