Michelle Smith constructed an ultramodern interpretation of traditionally feminine silhouettes with the use of three-dimensional technical fabrics, layered transparency and architectural illusions. She was inspired by perforated facades found in contemporary Japanese architecture during a recent trip to Tokyo.

THE MAKEUP LOOK INSPIRATION: To compliment the ultramodern Milly SS14 collection, Romy Soleimani for created a young, feminine look with a blurred, yet strong orangey-red lip. Using Kevyn Aucoin, Soleimani went for quenched skin using The Sensual Skin Tinted Balm and a pop of color on the lip, using The Flesh Tone Lip Pencil in Cerise.  For an extra punch, Soleimani also dabbed on The Pure Powder Glow Blush in Fira on top of lined lips.

If you follow my daily beauty ramblings on the blog, Twitter and Instagram, you know that I’ve covered several new CC Creams to hit the market. After the explosion of BB Creams, CC Creams seemed to quickly follow – and all came with the ‘promise’ to work a complexion-perfecting miracle. And while I have evaluated several new CC Creams on ‘immediate results’, I’ve yet to find one that I wanted to go the distance with and truly test the skincare benefits claim – until now.

COVER FX CC CREAM TIME RELEASE TINTED TREATMENT SPF 30 is the first CC Cream that I am evaluating on the basis of instant complexion correction as well as cumulative skincare benefits. In preparing to begin my four-week trial, I read up on the formulation behind COVER FX CC CREAM TIME RELEASE TINTED TREATMENT SPF 30 and was really impressed with the science behind the product. Lots of cosmetics claim to improve skin quality with continued use, but the truth is, a lot of these bells and whistles are just that – bells and whistles….buzz words and claims that lead the consumer to believe she’s getting more bang for her buck. Over time, I’ve come to NOT rely on cosmetic products to deliver skin care benefits because, quite frankly, its rare that cosmetics deliver the skincare benefits that make a difference.

But, in going over the formulation and ingredients, COVER FX CC CREAM TIME RELEASE TINTED TREATMENT SPF 30 seems promising…so I took the plunge.

Based on clinical trials in an 8-week study, participants (via self-assessments) reported:

92.9% of women noticed the appearance of fine lines reduced

82.1% of women saw an improvement in skin radiance

85.7% of women noticed an improvement their skin’s smoothness

64.3% of women saw an improvement in skin translucency

75% of women saw an improvement in overall skin appearance

My shades.

Well color me encouraged . . .

We already know that COVER FX offers a wide range of shades and undertones to match a large segment of the population. The new CC CREAM comes in nine shades, with 8.5% pigment load to allow for buildable coverage. But COVER FX’s ability to match the masses isn’t really new news. So let’s talk formulation – the real story behind the story!

COVER FX CC CREAM TIME RELEASE TINTED TREATMENT SPF 30 incorporates Sea Fennel, a Retinoid like ingredient that delivers anti-aging results without the irritation or sun sensitivity commonly associated with Retinoids. Sea Fennel is a gentler way to relax the appearance of fines and wrinkles, particularly for sensitive skin types.

The time-relase formula treats skin over an 8-hour period. A wrinkle reducing blend of Portulaca and Ginseng Extracts, Resveratrol (Red Grape Extract), and a polypeptide complex (Palmitoyl Tripeptide-5) all release and continuously treat skin over the course of 8 hours, thus ensuring long term treatment results. So you see, COVER FX CC CREAM TIME RELEASE TINTED TREATMENT SPF 30 works overtime!

If you follow my Hyperpigmentation Series, you know that skin discoloration has been a major focus of my blog for years. If you’re currently dealing with blotchy skin, unevern tone, old acne marks, you’ll be pleased to know that COVER FX CC CREAM TIME RELEASE TINTED TREATMENT SPF 30 is infused with Licorice Root Extract to naturally aid in the reduction of hyperpigmentation as well as prevent future discoloration from popping up.

Packed with Vitamin B and Vitamin CCOVER FX CC CREAM TIME RELEASE TINTED TREATMENT SPF 30 is antioxidant rich and provides a powerful shield against environmental stressors. And the icing on the cake is a built-in primer (hello, one-step flawless skin!) and Broad Spectrum SPF 30…nothing combats the pre-mature aging like solid sun protection.

COVER FX CC CREAM TIME RELEASE TINTED TREATMENT SPF 30 could not have come into my life at a better time. When I started my four-week trial, I was nearing the end of my pregnancy…and already starting to think about how I would need to streamline my skincare routine with baby demanding so much of my time. I’ve never been an all-in-one cosmetic/skincare product type of girl…I love doing all of the steps – I swear! But with baby on the way, it was the perfect time to give an all-in-one product a try.

For my complexion, I use a mix of N Med Deep (inner face) and N Deep (outer face). My skin immediately looks fresh and bright. Instantly, minor flaws are diffused and no longer obvious. I like to build a little extra coverage on the outer areas of my face where I have a little discoloration from a recent breakout. I really like that I’m able to build the coverage of COVER FX CC CREAM TIME RELEASE TINTED TREATMENT SPF 30 and add a little more where I need it. Most tinted treatment products are not buildable…they’re generally very sheer so if you’re experiencing a rough skin moment, good luck. COVER FX CC CREAM TIME RELEASE TINTED TREATMENT SPF 30 is ideal for girls who want to modify coverage to suit your daily skin care needs.

While pregnant (and even now while breastfeeding) I became a stickler for ingredients, so COVER FX’s Paraben-free, Fragrance-free, Gluten-free, Mineral Oil-free and Talc-free formulation is a major plus.

Let’s jump into the the results of the skincare features and benefits. Here’s a picture of my skin after using COVER FX CC CREAM TIME RELEASE TINTED TREATMENT SPF 30 for four weeks.

Over the four-week trial period I very closely monitored two areas: 1) hyperpigmentation on my cheeks and 2) smoothness on forehead.

With once daily application, I can absolutely say that my hyperpigmentation was reduced. There was a tiny brown spot on my cheek from a recent pimple…the spot seems to have faded quite a bit. It’s not 100% gone but it is significantly reduced.

My forehead is also showing major signs of improvement. I have this one little pit/ crease that’s the result of an old acne scar. I’ve been monitoring it for at least a year. With very close inspection I can see that the scar has filled out a bit and is not nearly as pronounced…and this is just after four weeks of using COVER FX CC CREAM TIME RELEASE TINTED TREATMENT SPF 30. I’m totally encouraged to continue for four more weeks and measure my results at the eight week mark.

Now that I am a busy mom (as if being a busy beauty girl wasn’t enough) I totally get it…not everyone has the luxury of time to get her act together in the morning…Hey, I’ll be the first to tell you — I didn’t wash my face with cleanser for about a week after my baby was born (who has time for cleanser?!). So I absolutely understand the usefulness of do-it-all products. . . .but here’s the caveat — they really must DO IT ALL. And COVER FX CC CREAM TIME RELEASE TINTED TREATMENT SPF 30 does. The skincare features and benefits are not just fancy unsubstantiated claims and marketing tactics. The formulation is actually quite good and COVER FX CC CREAM TIME RELEASE TINTED TREATMENT SPF 30 does what it says. I can’t imagine that my new life as Mom + Beauty Maven will be slowing down anytime soon — so I’m sticking with my new found one-step wonder!

I’m a huge COVER FX fan!

Every month, the ThisThatBeauty Girls share their favorite beauty products from the previous month. Today I share my top picks from January. . . .

January found my skin recovering from a breakout due to an allergic reaction. This meant I was dealing with pimples and the resulting hyperpigmentation (mainly because I can’t keep my fingers off the pimples). My favorite products for January all helped me to deal with this pesky breakout and I’m now on my way to great skin (fingers crossed).

Dermalogica Precleanse

  • Why I love it:  It’s a highly nourishing cleansing oil that removes even the most stubborn bits of dirt and makeup. It leaves my skin supple but not overly greasy.  It also works great to give me a good cleanse, especially when I can’t (or won’t) exfoliate because of a breakout.
  • Who it might work for and why:  This will work for anyone with a face, seriously — that is unless you are allergic to any of the ingredients in the product. The “lightweight Olive and Apricot Kernel-based cleansing oil, fortified with Kukui Nut, Borage Seed and Rice Bran oils,” gently dissolves dirt, grime and makeup. You have to follow up with a cleanser of your choice.
  • Bottom line:  This is a great pre cleanse product that can be used by anyone no matter their skin type or the state of their skin.

Origins Clear Improvement Mask

  • Why I love it:  I used this mask about twice per week. After I cleanse with a very gently cleanser,  I put a warm towel on my face for about 30 seconds, I then remove it an apply the mask.  My face feels exceptionally clean after I use it. However, not only does it feel clean but my follow up with a toner reveals that nothing is left behind and so I know it is clean.
  • Who it might work for and why:   This mask is formulated for all skin types but I  highly recommend for anyone dealing with breakouts.  The mask contains activated charcoal  that draws out  impurities that clog pores, white China clay that absorbs environmental toxins and lecithin to dissolves impurities.
  • Bottom line:  A great mask for anyone who wants to control and/or help to prevent breakouts.

Prescriptives Custom Blend Foundation

  • Why I love it: It is mine, all mine!  I often have to get two shades of foundation just to match my skin but with my custom full coverage foundation from Prescriptives, I’m all set with just one.  I opted for full coverage foundation because the formula is light enough that it provides a sheer coverage with a light application but is easily build-able to provide full coverage  in areas where I need it.  I also added ingredients to brighten, clarify and even out my skin, a welcomed option considering my problems with hyperpigmention.  So, you see, I’m not exaggerating when I say ‘It is mine, all mine!’ You too can get your custom blended foundation: Here’s how:
  • Who it might work for and why:  This will work for anyone but will work exceptionally well for those who might have a problem finding their perfect shade of foundation.  It will also work for anyone who might want to add a little punch to their foundation, for example moisturizers, brightening agents, line minimizers, etc.  This is also good for those who want to take their perfectly matched foundation from summer to winter or vice versa.
  • Bottom line:  Any product you can easily customize for your specific needs is definitely worth trying.

How do you get your beauty? Are you a brick & mortar or a click & buy kind of girl? It’s likely you’re a hybrid of the two. Personally, for trying new products, it’s usually the person-to-person contact that seals the deal for me…but for replenishment products, I generally click, add to cart, and checkout. But over the years, with the growing influence of social media, I’ve been known to make online purchases – sight unseen – purely based on the opinion or “thumbs up” from a trusted online influencer. And I know that many of my followers rely on me for this same type of guidance.

Let’s chat about, a dermatologist-owned online destination for advanced skin care needs. The beauty of the site is its vast offering of high quality products…products that are typically made available only through expensive spas and dermatologist or cosmetic surgeons’ offices.

Dr. Schlessinger

The other feature that makes unique is the hands-on involvement of founder and CEO Dr. Joel Schlessinger, M.D. – he personally selects the products that are sold on the site. Dr. Schlessinger and his team respond daily to customer inquiries and assist customers in choosing the best products to suit their skin care concerns. This is the piece of the puzzle that really helps to demystify the online buying experience and bridge the gap that we sometimes feel when purchasing skin care online.

The team and help you determine if your skin needs a boost of collagen or a dose of antioxidants.

In addition to being able to search products by “brand” and “area of body”, you can also search by “skin concern”… I immediately got to clicking on ‘hyperpigmentation” – my number one skin care concern – and found a mountain of products with reviews and detailed usage information. Bulls-eye!

Over the next few months I’ll be trying a few products from — like NeoStrata Skin Perfecting Peel (it’s supposed to work wonders for hyperpigmentation) and Tria Skin Perfecting Blue Light (for managing my temperamental adult acne). I’ll keep you posted on all.

In the meantime, check out Oh, and they have a blog: here! The “Trend Testers” column is a must…learn to fashion a sock bun, braided headband, and more!

This post is inspired by the barometer. In case you haven’t noticed — Spring has sprung and Summer’s just ’round the corner. Hopefully you’ve been reading ThisThatBeauty all Fall/ Winter and have been putting in work with respect to your skin care routine. For if you have, you will embrace my upcoming recommendation. But if you have been bad little ThisThatBeauty bellas and have not taken my sage skin care advice all Fall/ Winter, well….you’re gonna go into a state of panic over this next sentence.

It is time to ditch your beloved moderate to full coverage foundation & lighten up with a tinted moisturizer.

Unless you want your face to melt clear off of your face, I beg you to set aside the full coverage foundation for the next few months…

Summer is the time of year to show a little skin…skin on your arms, legs, midriff (preferably, at the beach – please), and face. When I think of tinted moisturizers I generally think of them as a go-to products for individuals with near perfect skin. If you’re anything like me (and most women), your skin is not perfect…and that’s ok. While its never too late to start a proper skin care regimen to address your skin care issues, at this point I encourage you to embrace the skin you’re in and tone down your makeup with a tinted moisturizer.

For those of you with slight uneven skin-tone and minor discoloration, — a tinted moisturizer will bump up your complexion and give the appearance of bare beautiful skin. For those of you dealing with more severe skin conditions like acne and hyperpigmentation — I still recommend a tinted moisturizer. While it will not give the appearance of perfect skin, like with a heavier foundation, it will clean up the canvas, calm the skin, and cancel out redness and blotchiness. Your skin will feel light and refreshed without a heavy coating of foundation competing with 80 degree days. As someone who’s been there with troubled skin, believe me when I tell you that at some point you have to (as the old folks say) “let go and let God”. It is simply too hot and too humid to mess around with heavy foundation during the summer. Continue to focus on your morning/evening skin care routine and your skin’s condition will improve over time. But in the meantime, especially for the warm summer months, strip down your foundation just a bit and give a tinted moisturizer a try.

Do you have a favorite tinted moisturizer in your current makeup arsenal? Well you know I wouldn’t put you through this whole soap box soliloquy on tinted moisturizer without offering up a few of my favs. Yep, ThisThatBeauty’s got your back:

NARS Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer SPF30/PA+++ I mean. .  . dang, NARS! Why didn’t you just call it “best-skin-of-your-life-in-a-tube”?…because that’s exactly what this lightweight skin perfector delivers! Available in nine exquisite shades ranging from Finland (Lightest with a neutral balance of pink and yellow undertones) to Polynesia (Dark with warm chocolate undertones), not only does Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer perfect the complexion with just a few drops, it also delivers skin-enhancing antioxidants and powerful full spectrum sun protection. And while I advise the use of a separate SPF underneath your makeup, Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer packs a really nice bonus SPF of 30 PA+++. After application my skin appears more smooth & subtlety illuminated. This has become my summer staple!

BECCA Luminous Skin Colour Sheer Colour Makeup SPF20 is another ThisThatBeauty fav. You all know that I love my BECCA Compact Concealer to pieces, but come Memorial Day I switch over to a lightweight formula. In addition to offering sun protection, this multitasking tinted moisturizer contains antioxidant vitamins A, B, D, and E to aid tissue repair, increase collagen renewal and hydration, and protect against free radical damage. The soothing soothing anti-inflammatory and antiseptic ingredients in the formula make BECCA Luminous Skin Colour Sheer Colour Makeup SPF 20 a great choice for individuals with sensitive skin.

CoverFx Skin Tint FX Moisturizing Treatment and Tint is an oil-free, paraben-free, and water resistant formula with skin repairing ingredients and anti-aging technology. The shades available range from C Light to M Deep…that’s like a “light olive” to a “warm walnut”. SkinTint FX’s formula is light and silky. The finish is a natural sun-kissed glow. SkinTint FX contains SPF 30 and multi-vitamin antioxidants A and E. It is also supercharged with emollients, such as ceramide 2, vitamin F and emollients derived from Mediterranean olives. This one’s packed with goodness!

La Mer Fluid Tint SPF 18 ($65) is a water based formula that adds a touch of color for a smooth, even finish. Enriched with gemstones, Fluid Tint absorbs light energy, transforming it into beneficial green light to enhance anti-oxidant activity. Photonic spheres redirect and diffuse light. per-fekt skin perfection gel is a skin perfector that instantly enhances the appearance of the skin offering an easy breezy summertime appropriate alternative to traditional foundation, primer, color corrector and powder. This powerhouse gel-mousse instantly enhances skin tone, helps to maintain hydration, and significantly reduces the appearance of redness and discoloration. It also helps to diminish the appearance of enlarged pores, pesky fine lines and embarrassing ill-placed shine. per-fekt comes in five shades: Translucent (colorless for all skin tones), Luminous (very light neutral/fair skin tones), Radiant (medium beige/fair to medium skin tones), Rich (warm tan/tanned skin), Decadent (deep tan/ doubles as a bronzer for lighter skin tones).

Youngblood Mineral Radiance Moisture Tint allows you to hydrate, cover, and protect all in one formula. This lightweight tint leaves skin beautifully hydrated, with sheer even toned coverage while shielding skin from environmental damage. Youngblood Mineral Radiance Moisture Tint contains Seve Marine, a green algae that replenishes dehydrated skin, leaving it smooth and supple. The formula is packed with free-radical fighting antioxidants of Kiwi Extract and vitamin E, Licorice Root Extract to calm redness and inflammation, and Menthol to provide a cooling effect. The nourishing formula also includes Youngblood’s signature mineral blend of Rhodolite, Zincite, Hematite and Malachite, which help protect skin cells and tissue.

Youngblood Mineral Radiance Moisture Tint comes in four skin-perfecting shades: Natural, a bare shade for Light to Medium skin; Warm, a rich brown for Medium skin tones; Tan, a toasty shade for Medium skin; and Golden Sun, a soft, shimmering golden shade for illuminating Medium to Deep skin tones. Golden Sun is my personal fav for highlighting the skin! Visit Youngblood at Henri Bendel NYC.

POP Beauty No Show Correct & Protect Tint is a weightless SPF 30 tint gel that evens out uneven tone and discoloration. The formula is oil-free, water based, and enriched with Vitamins C and E. POP Beauty No Show Correct & Protect Tint is available in two shades: Neutralize and Balance. The no show formula is ideal for women of fair to medium complexion.

This summer, embrace your skin and try a tinted moisturizer. Stay tuned for the next installment of Summer Makeup 101 🙂

There are many myths surrounding acne, especially acne in adult women (Felicia chronicled her personal struggle here), so we thought we would share some content from Jasmina Aganovic to  separate myth from fact.  Jasmina is the creator of the all-natural, anti-aging skincare line, Stages of Beauty.

MYTH: Acne only appears on the skin of a teenager
Acne can be associated with aging just as much as it is associated with one’s teenage years.
o As we age, not only does our collagen and elastin start to decrease, but overall, the aging process also makes our skin less efficient at other things like regulating its level hydration and oil production both of which can greatly impact acne.

o One of the best examples of this is the rate of regeneration of the skin, which starts to slow as we enter our 30s.

o In our teens it takes our skin approximately 14 days to completely regenerate. That means we have new skin every 2 weeks! In our 30s, this time jumps up to over 30 days. This means that dead skin cells are sitting on the surface for longer, the body is less efficient at pushing healthier skin to the surface.

o The sluggish renewal of cells as we age increases the likely hood of clogging our pores. It also means that any hyperpigmentation from acne will take longer to fade.

o Women in their 30s need to focus more on exfoliation as a means to care for acne and heal acne marks than teens do.

FACT: Adult acne is on the rise for women in their 20s-50s

Over the last five years, the day-to-day lives of women in careers have become more hectic, leading to more stress and other poor lifestyle habits.
o As we age and become more involved in our careers, it’s natural to experience less exercise, unbalanced diets and more stress, which impacts the hormones in the body (and hormones have a profound effect on the skin; good & bad).

o Another factor contributing to acne in adult women being on the rise is that our air and environment is becoming more polluted, which leads to additional damage and clogging of the skin.

o The food that we eat also plays a role in the condition of our skin. There is a debate between the importance of organic meats and dairy. For example: More and more farmers are now supplementing their cows with hormones so that they produce more milk – one must then wonder what this actually does to the milk produced from these cows?

o Any traces of hormones in the milk that we ingest could certainly have an impact on the hormones in our own bodies and as a result have an effect on our skin. None of this is of course proven, but it is certainly something to be mindful of especially because we are seeing an increase in the occurrence of things like adult acne, earlier development and menstruation, etc. in women.

MYTH: Oily skin causes acne
If a person has acne, it doesn’t necessarily mean that their skin is too oily. In fact, lack of moisture can cause acne, too!
o It is not the oils or the skin that cause acne, but rather the inability of the body to expel the oils properly, causing build-up and clogging.

o A lack of moisture can also be a cause of acne. Again, it is not the amount of moisture that is produced, but the way that your skin handles its natural oils.

o Your skin should feel balanced and supple without any moisturizer. You’ll know that you need to add moisture to your skin if it feels dry or tight after cleansing.

FACT: The ingredients you use on your face should change as you age
As women age, they should be aware of the ingredients they are putting on their face and look for products that treat the skin concerns of people in their age group.
o In terms of ingredients to avoid, since our skin is more sensitive and less efficient as we age, it is necessary to be more careful with synthetic and heavy ingredients like petrochemicals and silicones, which can often clog the skin. In our teens our skin is more efficient, so clogging is less of a concern with ingredients like these.

o Women 30+ battling acne or problematic skin, should always incorporate exfoliation into their skincare regimen. The skin’s rate of regeneration is slower, leading to more clogging from dead skin cells alone – by helping take off the top layer of skin, you can really enable the skin to breathe a bit more.

o As women age, they should look for ingredients like AHA’s and BHA’s. Salicylic acid is among the most common.

The more I write about beauty and beauty products the more obsessed I get about anti-aging products.  When I talk about anti aging I’m not talking about things to prevent me from aging (as if those products exist) but more so products that will aide in gracefully aging.  Nobody, I mean nobody wants sagging, super wrinkly skin, not matter how old.  With that said, I am all about products that slow down that sagging and wrinkling process (I can sag and wrinkle in the casket.)

AMOREPACIFIC TIME RESPONSE SKIN RENEWAL GEL CREME claims to slow down and reverse skin aging on a genetic level. Color me excited!

AMOREPACIFIC partnered with Dr. David Weitz Research Group at Harvard University to design a new skincare delivery system that penetrates the skin’s surface to deliver anti-aging ingredients into the deepest layers of the skin for a 24-hour release period. The delivery system is everything in this product! There are 63 actives in this gel creme and were chosen to help calm, soothe and smooth skin while simultaneously correcting, protecting and restoring the skin to its optimal state of firmness and hydration. According to the manufacturers, AMOREPACIFIC TIME RESPONSE SKIN RENEWAL GEL CREME radically renews, restores and reverses all signs of skin aging, from dynamic lines and wrinkles to hyperpigmentation and sagging skin. Yes!

Check the Benefits:

  • Restores collagen production improving skin density, volume and resilience while reducing lines, wrinkles and sagging
  • Regulates melanin production, reducing hyperpigmentation, improving skin clarity and discoloration
  • Controls moisture levels throughout all layers of the skin resulting in smooth, supple skin Improves cellular regeneration and turnover while preventing cell breakdown for a youthful complexion
  • Increases natural antioxidant production to prevent premature skin aging while protecting against free radical damage
  • Stimulates hyaluronic acid production to significantly increase moisture levels in the skin Improves skin’s circulation for enhanced product performance and results
  • Reduces inflammation to improve skin clarity and functioning
  • Restores natural barrier function to prevent excess moisture loss

How often do you evaluate your skin care routine? I mean, really critically analyze the needs of your skin against the efficacy of your products. Perhaps the serum you’re using is great for managing acne, but that was five years ago and suddenly you’ve noticed tiny fine lines on your forehead. Or, perhaps your usual daily moisturizer feels great and applies well, but when stacked against current technology and advanced delivery systems, you realize that in addition to increasing hydration, maybe there are creams on the market that also eradicate wrinkles, fight hyperpigmentation, and leave a luminous finish.

I say all of this to say: Skin beyond the age of 20ish regularly goes through a laundry list of changes. It’s up to you to make sure that the products you apply topically are the cream (pun intended) of the crop and best suited for skin’s changing needs.

Does your skin suffer from diminished vitality? Is it not as plump, smooth, and supple as it used to be? In just four weeks, ANEW Genics Treatment Cream (patented with YouthGenTM Technology – inspired by genetic research on human longevity) is a fairly recent skin care breakthrough that promises to do a Cher (“turn back time”) in as little as four weeks. By boosting specific skin proteins, ANEW Genics Treatment Cream stimulates skin’s Youth Gene and triggers younger acting skin. Momma ThisThatBeauty has been enjoying the benefits ever since I gave her a jar about a month ago. Recently, I could not help but marvel over mom’s much improved 58-year old skin…Isn’t she pretty?!

Most women first reach for an eye cream somewhere around early 20’s…usually due to the effects of dryness, puffiness, or dark circles. However, as skin matures, the prevention of fine lines, wrinkles and creasing is a primary concern. Newly launched, SK-II Skin Signature Eye Cream smooths the early signs of aging at the corners of eyes and underneath.

The signature complex, a proprietary blend of Pitera™, Oli-Vityl (anti-oxidant protection), Signaline, and concentrated levels of Niacinamide, work in concert to reduce dull appearance, increase hydration, and firm the look of crepe-y skin. SK-II Skin Signature Eye Cream is serious treatment for eyes and an appropriate next step option for those of us in search of an eye cream that does more…much more! (ME!!)

It all sounds so sci-fi…A renewable energy project, turned anti-aging discovery is the real life true story inception of Algenist. Picture it: A team of San Francisco based biotechnology scientists were hard at work developing microalgae-based renewable energy solutions when they uncovered “alguronic acid”, a powerful compound connected to cell regeneration. When tested in clinical trials, younger-looking resulted…in as little as 10 days. Yes, 10 days! Now, who doesn’t have 10 days to put the claim to the test?

Ladies, start your engines…I mean, er, start your infrared LED light. Sure, topicals are effective…but why not work deeper? LightStim helps create collagen (the secret to plump, line-free skin) and improve skin’s elasticity by emitting pain-free amber and red infrared LED light. The wavelengths energize skin’s youth cells and promote radiant, brilliant complexion. The handheld, at-home device is a must add to your routine. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure!

Give your skin the attention it deserves. Take a step back. Look in the mirror. Survey your skin. Now, survey your medicine cabinet? Are you well-equipped to handle the skin care challenges before you? If not, re-read this blog post and compile your shopping list. Thank me later!

This post is inspired by my dear friend, Nef. She’s a phenomenal writer and director.

Nef recently inquired about my skin routine. Now in stating that she’s a friend, you can infer that I’ve shared my skincare gems with Nef in the past…that’s what friends are for. But because Nef is a dear dear friend and asked for a more focused skincare 101 session, on my next day off — she’ll come over, we’ll sip wine, laugh a lot, and chat skincare. She’ll take copious notes ;)….she better!

But I have told Nef, if she is TRULY serious about skincare, she has to do the required reading in advance of our 1:1 because I go hard….and it’s important the she has a full understanding of my core skincare philosophy before we start our chat!

Every day, my amazing followers on my various social platforms (Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest, etc) ask me for skin care tips – the good news is: the book is in the works!! – but until then, my blog is filled to the brim with posts on my skincare musts. Questions from followers range from, what’s your skin routine, to how can I achieve glowy skin, to how do I get rid of dark spots…and everything in between.

Truth be told – the answers are laid out for you in my blog. I’ve been writing ThisThatBeauty for over 5 years now…so the blog is filled with lots of useful blog posts, tips & recommendations on skincare. Using the search box to search terms like acne, eye cream, hyperpigmentation, red lipstick, etc. will yield tons of helpful posts.

But because I am asked these questions LITERALLY every day, I thought I’d take the time to point you to specific posts that breakdown my personal skincare philosophy. Now here’s the kicker – Y’all have to actually read these posts. No, seriously! As much as I would love to chat skin all day on social platforms…Bank of America (my mortgage company) requires that I spend a portion of my day working on things that generate income. No shade at all, y’all….but these posts really will help to answer most of your questions.

So here’s your required reading for clear, even, glowy, enviable skin:

(ps — i’m not wearing foundation in this pic..the sheen is a combo of lighting and natural glow from good skincare!)

Ahhh, the blog post that started it all….ThisThatBeauty vs. Hyperpigmentation is EPIC. . It’s THEE most popular post on ThisThatBeauty! I originally wrote this post in 2009 but I republish it often. In this post I detail my skincare routine from A to Z. No stone is left unturned. This is a must read:

Peel thy Skin, Heal thy Skin: ThisThatBeauty’s Favorite at-home Peels: After sun protection, the second most important area of skincare, in my opinion, is proper exfoliation….i.e. chemical peels, alpha hydroxy acid, glycolic peels, etc. This read will empower you with what you need to know to help maintain smooth texture:

If asked the “stranded on a deserted island” question – I would respond “sunscreen”. It’s my beauty non-negotiable. I’ve worn it every day since about age 20…and had I known better, I would have started before then. This blog post is a must read for protecting and maintaining perfect skin:

I never go a night without doing this little glowy skin trick (except when I’m on my Retinol kick)! Click to read!
