Mood Makeup Makes a Comeback on ThisThatBeauty

So after yesterday’s less than “glowing” (still having fun with puns:-)) review of the Smashbox O-Glow product line, the stars must have aligned. Someone out there really wants me to change my opinion of mood makeup/ self adjusting makeup.

So last night Mr. ThisThatBeauty and I took an unplanned trip (stars aligned) to our local Walgreens. While Mr. ThisThatBeauty perused the candy aisle for Swedish fish, I made a mad dash for cosmetics….and guess what new product de jour I found – Revlon Beyond Natural (self adjusting) Makeup Foundation.

Naturally I was very skeptical.
Number one – I think self adjusting makeup is a gimmick.
Number two – The powers that be that run drugstore brand product lines never get my complexion right (despite valiant attempts – CoverGirl QueenL collection gets honorable mention).

Anyhoo, my expectations are pretty low when it comes to the combination of the self adjusting concept AND a drugstore brand. Oh and then throw in the fact that the brand is Revlon….yilk! I haven’t been a fan since high school when their “Toast of New York” lipstick was my ish. Those were the days. Good times, good times. But again I digress. So I say all of this to say I was as shocked as anybody to find that this product actually works. Yes folks – Mood Makeup has made a comeback on ThisThatBeauty.

Revlon Beyond Natural – I am beyond surprised!

When I squeezed the grayish liquid into my palm and began applying, I honestly thought “why do I even try”. But much to my surprise the stuff worked. The finish is a natural matte…which is perfect for my oily skin. I would not describe the coverage as full, but I hear it’s buildable. If you’re looking for full coverage I’m not sure this is the product for you….but try building it to see. Beyond Natural Makeup Foundation comes in three shades – I forget the first two shades and can you believe the product isn’t even on Revlon’s website…how trifling is that. Ugh! Anyhoo, my shade is “dark”.

Here’s what I managed to find on the web regarding The Beyond Natural line:

“Beyond Natural is a new makeup collection, which includes eight products that create a naturally glamorous look, and works with all skin tones. The collection for face, eye and lip includes a smoothing primer, a unique skin matching makeup, a concealer and highlighter in a single compact, a cream-to-powder eye shadow, a defining eye pencil, defining mascara with a molded brush, a cream lipgloss and a protective liptint”.

I’ve only tried the foundation so I can’t comment on the “wear’ of the rest. But I will say the packaging and colors all look great. Check out what makeupalley has to say.

Two final notes

1) This product has SPF 15 and you already know how I feel about the harmful effects of sun

AND

2) Cost is roughly $14. Not bad if this converts you from a more expensive dept store product you’re currently using. But if you’re a drugstore product loyalist, then I think almost $14 is pretty steep. Might be worth copping next time there’s a BUY ON GET ONE promo running.

Moody (in a good way),
