Mani of the Week: Pitch Black Perfection with Maybelline Patent Black

I don’t wear a lot of black nail polish.  Truth be told, it’s a bit difficult to get it out of my cuticles and if it chips I have to remove it immediately or risk looking like someone who trolls for dates in back alleys.  Patent Black Nail Polish from Maybelline’s  Color Show Back to Black Collection was worth the risk because the shine is ridiculous and it wears 4 full days without chipping.  In my experience, a rare feat for a black nail polish.

Get the Look:

Maybelline Patent Black

Supplies

  1. Maybelline  Patent Black
  2. Base Coat
  3. Top Coat
  4. Glitter and Brush

How-to:

  1. Clean and shape nails.
  2. Apply base coat and allow it to dry.
  3. Apply one light coat of Patent Black.
  4. Apply a second light coat and allow to dry completely. (If it’s not completely dry, in the next step, glitter will stick to the entire nail.)
  5. Apply a clear polish to any area you want the glitter.  Apply in the shape shown above to replicate this look.
  6. Use dry nail brush to pick up glitter and place it in the area where you just applied the clear polish. Press glitter into place.
  7. Blow on nails to remove any loose glitter.
  8. Apply top coat and youre done!

#TTBTip: The key to getting your manicure to last is to ensure nails are free of any oily residue and to apply the polish in light/thin coats.  It’s best to apply up to three thin coats to get the desired look, than to apply one or two heavy coats. A good basecoat and top coat   will also help to extend the life of your polish.
