Mascara 101, according to ThisThatBeauty

Boy oh boy is my Makeup Whore slip showing!

Here’s a product I am absolutely dying to try.
Estee Lauder TurboLash

Vibrating mascara anyone?  Oh yea, I’m game…and not the least bit deterred by the $30 price tag. Shoot, Dior Show is $24  and my holy grail mascara, Le de 2 Guerlain is $35.  So again, I’m not really blinking at TurboLash’s $30 price tag.
Sorry folks but when it comes to mascara, I make the investment.
But here’s a good opportunity for me to share my mascara philosophy.  And it goes a lil something  like this…
Mascara is important.  It’s one of those makeup thingys that require minimal effort and in turn offer maximum payoff.  The difference between deeply coated dark lashes and NOT is dramatic. If you’re a low  maintenance  makeup girl, mascara is your friend!  Nothing says HELLO DARLING like well framed eyes.
Ok, so back to the “cost” of mascara.  Over the last few years, drugstore brands have really stepped up their game and now offer a plethora of great everyday mascaras for less than $10. Some of my favorite everyday drugstore mascaras include:

  • CoverGirl Lash Blast
  • Maybelline Colossal Lash
  • Rimmel Extra Super Lash
For everyday use, when I’m making a mad dash from home to the office, I typically reach for a great drugstore mascara.  Why?  Because I’m not trying to make a major eyelash statement at work.  Why call on the big guns  unnecessarily? I’m just trying to pull the ol face together in a way that says “I’m  professional, I’m polished, and gosh darn it I give a damn”!
Now fast forward to the freakin’ weekend and its time to turn it up a notch.  In this scenario I’m looking for major GLAM and DRAMA.  So that’s when I reach for my $20+ high end  mascara.  No need to be all  willy nilly wielding the big guns everyday.  No ma’am.  Ms ThisThatBeauty aint rollin’ in it like that. LOL.
But seriously, just thought I’d  share my Mascara 101 with you.  I hope my mascara philosophy is helpful.
If you have makeup philosophy that you’d love to share, hit me up.  I love hearing from you.

  • yes. But The 2-3 month rule is based on daily usage. If you’re opening a mascara tube everyday, yes you should trash after 2-3 months. But if you use less frequently you can go beyond 2-3 months. I’ve been doing it for years without issue. My good friend who’s a chemist was the one who actually shared this wisdom with me years ago.

  • Well mascaras only last 2-3 months, so I dunno how cost effective it is to alternate mascaras during that time. I prefer to just use my diorshow as much as possible cuz when it’s done, it’s done lol. The lash blast is pretty good though
