Mani of the Week: JINsoon Tibi Collection

Fall is all about layering but layering is not just for clothing.  We layer clothing, hair and makeup, so, why not layer our manicure? The JINsoon Tibi collection embraces the colors of Fall but has famed nail artist, Jin Soon Choi’s spin of elegance, simplicity and high fashion that seamlessly helps us layer our manicure.

The collection consists of five colors that are named after their mineral like appearance and a matte top coat that delivers the layering effect and adds “urban edginess” to the manicures. The Tibi Fall 2013 collection has a lot of different textures and Jin Soon Choi uses the high gloss finish of  the five colors and the matte texture of the top coat to  add “functional elegance” to the collection.

From Left to Right:

Jasper – Shimmering Burgundy

Mica – Iridescent Silver Gray

Obsidian – Galaxy Black with Mica Flecks

Azurite – Sparkling Midnight Blue

Epidote – Holographic Olive Green

Matte Maker Quick Dry Matte Topcoat (Not Shown)

The polishes are created using Mica to give them a shimmery look.  So, they have the look of very fine glitter but they are removed from the nail very easily — definitely not the case with actual glitter.

Glossy/Matte Mani – Wearing all the Jin Soon TIBI Polishes

Jin Soon formulates her polishes without the use of formaldehyde, toluene, formaldehyde resin, DBP and camphor. She uses a double patented nail polish formula that increases the wear of the polish and adds an SPF to prevent fading of the color. I wore my manicure for seven days without as much as a chip – a rare feat for metallic type polishes.

How-to Achieve this Look:

  1. Start with two coats of Epidote and allow to dry completely
  2. Follow with Matte Maker Top Coat and allow to dry completely
  3. Paint the tips using the other colors in the collection.

Day 6 – Jin Soon TIBI Manicure

I absolutely love every polish in this collection but my favorite thing is the Matte Maker Top Coat.  It goes on smooth and it dries down to an almost velvety finish.  Matte Maker doesn’t change the color of the underlying polish nor does it pull or separate.  I have tried it over other brand polishes and it works just as well.  If you intend to try the matte mani trend then JINsoon’s Matte Maker is the top coat to buy.

The JINsoon Tibi polishes and the Matte Maker retail for $18 and are available and select Sephora stores and Sephora.com, Space NK retailers and Tibi Boutique in Soho NYC.
