Fall Hair Trends & My Visit To Sassoon Salon

Fall is almost here. No, for real. . . you can almost feel it (the last few mornings in NYC have been quite brisk).  And while I’m not looking forward to bidding a tearful farewell to carefree beach days and flouncy summer dresses, I, like most fashion-focused girls, can’t help but get a little giddy over fall fashion and beauty trends.

Optica

I’m always really excited to see what top stylists and influencers have to say about hair. And if I’m being completely honest, I’ll confide in you and say that hair is probably the area of beauty that I personally focus on the least…well, let me clean that up a bit — I LOOOOVE hair! And I love styling my own hair in different ways (Over the course of one week I might incorporate a turban, a headband, braids and a top knot.) BUT, here’s the thing — I rarely do a major cut and I can’t remember the last time I colored. My main hair concern generally revolves around ‘health’. So, for this reason, I’m all ears when it comes to trends in hair. Hey, a girl needs to stay informed for her readership.

Fall Hair Trends from Sassoon

I was recently invited to Sassoon Salon  Uptown (7 West 56th Street) to learn about their  AW14 collection, Optica (available in salons  on Sept 2, 2014). I had no idea, but the salon releases two collections a year that feature of-the-moment  haircuts and colors.

When I first heard about the Optica collection, I was immediately chomping at the bit to see it — c’mon, I’m a Beauty Editor! The collection is actually a series of of-the-moment styles, cuts and color techniques uniquely designed to deliver the season’s hottest hair — this is such a cool and modern approach! As someone who very closely follows trends from season to season, I love that the Optica Collection feels current, yet wearable. Sometimes, ‘on trend’ has a way of feeling very forced and contrived. But with the Optica Collection, the styles all feel easy and attainable. Some cuts are a bit edgier than others, but they all appear highly wearable in a non-over-the-top sort of way.

More About Optica:

Sassoon presents its Autumn Winter 2014  Optica Collection: a series of iconic looks that are the perfect expression of Sassoon technique, elevated with an editorial edge, for a camera-ready finish.    Optica  pays homage to the world of editorial imagery, since it is through the lens of fashion that cultural trends are distilled and immortalized in stylized photography.

Playing with the aesthetic of light and shade,  Optica  incorporates dimensions through the art of nuance, via interplay of light, depth and shadow in the cuts, colors and styling. With innovative cut and color techniques delivering a three-dimensional effect to the looks,  Optica  optimizes the effect of shadow and light and enhancing the individual’s natural beauty.

While receiving a much-needed blow-out (that was completely personalized to suit the needs of my hair) my stylist, Michael Forrey, the Creative Director for the Sassoon location in Chelsea, filled me in on the services of the salon.  Each member of the  Sassoon Salon team is specially  trained to understand each client’s aesthetic (bone structure, head shape, hair texture, etc.) and create a look that is uniquely her!  I love that Sassoon Salon  Salon’s approach to hair feels very modern…very now.

Obviously, the  reputation and legacy of the brand is a feather in the cap, but it’s equally important that the brand feel current and relevant. Bravo, Sassoon Salon team!
