Fall 2012 NYFW Beauty Trend Reoprt

NYFW Beauty Trends Fall 2012 – Reported by @TrueTrae

Hi there! I’m delighted to be back at This That Beauty for another New York Fashion Week beauty trend roundup. Our focus is on Fall 2012 and although there were many interesting beauty looks this week, three were prevalent enough to bet that they will become trends this Fall.

Androgynous

First, we have the Androgynous trend. While this is not my favorite trend this season, it was by far the most prominent. I didn’t find it to be glamorous or elegant, but it’s definitely more interesting than the ‘no makeup’ look that makes its way into every Fashion Week.

So, as evidenced by the name, this look is quite boyish. My favorite aspects of this look were the flawless, dewy and fresh skin and that the face was quite sculpted. There was an overall peachy-champagne color scheme on the eyes, lips and cheeks and fairly strong, masculine brows.

Designers: Alexander Wang, Rebecca Minkoff, Tommy Hilfiger, Calvin Klein, Y-3 and Cynthia Rowley (this look was set apart from the others because the models had crazy, frizzy hair). Band of Outsiders and L.A.M.B. also featured this look, but there was with a more “burnt” look on the cheeks, which was interesting in a post-ski kind of way. Rag & Bone and BCBG also featured this look, but with a stronger, and even more masculine brow.

Wings

“Wings” in this case, refers to the winged eyes that we saw on a number of runways this week. While winged eyes were very popular, the style of wing varied from show to show, which made it fun! Winged eyes were definitely the centerpiece of the face, and in almost every instance they were nicely offset by soft peachy cheeks and lips.

Designers: The most understated of the winged eyes were seen at Giulette and Altuzarra. The wings here were black and horizontal – only along the top lash line. I did feel that the horizontal shape gave the models a slightly angry look, which I hope was intentional! 3.1 Philip Lim also showed a black horizontal wing that was further defined with a strip of red. Very cool and almost futuristic looking.

Catherine Malandrino showed a very dramatic black wing (a la Amy Winehouse), which branched out from the top and bottom lash lines. This look was both bold and beautiful and would have been my favorite had it not been for Jason Wu. This wing was similarly dramatic, but done in emerald/teal/mint tones, which I really enjoyed – it was great to see color on the eyes. Wearable for every day? Probably not, but suitably glamorous for runway for sure!

Hibiscus Lips

Another trend that I enjoyed were the bright, hibiscus-colored lips. This was very un-fall to me – I find that statement-making lips for Fall are usually on the deeper side, with rich reds and plums – but it was very pretty, and I loved that it was so fun and fresh. Eyes and cheeks were quite soft and a little peachy, which created a lovely balance for the strong, statement making lip. Do not be surprised if you spot this lip color on the shelves this Fall!
