Fall 2012 makeup trends (Images: Elle and Bazaar)

It’s about that time – when a sweater is needed on your morning walk to work, frizzy hair is a distant memory and a new makeup wardrobe is needed to capture Fall in all its dark color splendor.   At approximately this time every year, women everywhere are reaching that crucial time when they are about to transition their makeup routine to welcome in a new season.    It’s all about the interpretation rather than the literal translation – so let’s take a look at 4 different trends that anyone can adapt into their beauty repetoire.   And yes, you have probably seen these before so feel free to dig deep into your makeup drawers and breathe new life into those products that may have been shelved for the past few months.   Here’s the rundown:

Lorac Palette – Unzipped

1.     Brown smoky eyes –  Shown both in matte or shimmer –  the look is edgy and sultry with color going all around the eye, smudged  on the bottom lashes and blended out seamlessly.   The best part of a smoky eye in a neutral brown  is  its suitability for  most skin tones and eye colors.   Since the look only requires using one color, it is easily recreated quickly and with  few products.   Remember to keep the rest of the look simple, letting the smoky eye be the focus.   Some recommended choices for achieving this look: NARS Duo Eyeshadow in Cordura, Bobbi Brown Eye Shadow in Mahogany, and the Lorac Palette in Unzipped.

Make Up For Ever Smokey Lash – Plum

2.   Multi-jewel toned  eyes  –  As with many of the Fall clothing trends, jewel tones are a perfect way to introduce color without looking like a box of Crayola crayons.   Mix  various shades together to create a look with more dimension, or simply opt for a liner and shadow in similar  deep hues to dabble in the trend.   If doing a full eye look in  colors other than brown still remains a frightening feat,  try introducing a colored mascara in  deep eggplant, hunter green or royal blue  into your routine to try this trend.   Here are some picks to help you recreate these looks: Make Up For Ever Smoky Lash in Plum, Bobbi Brown Long Wear Gel Eyeliner in Black Mauve Shimmer Ink, and Chanel Les 4 Ombres in Enigma.

Bobbi Brown Pot Rouge For Lips And Cheeks – Powder Pink

3. Fresh, natural face – With all the attention on intense color, it’s nice to see that thought is still given to makeup  that looks polished and fresh.    Using multi-purpose products, such as a cheek/lip tint or an eyeshadow that can double as a blush, is the trick to duplicating this trend.   Some great choices for achieving this look are: Bobbi Brown Pot Rouge for Lips and Cheeks in Powder Pink, Josie Maran Argan Color Stick in Dusty Rose, and Becca Beach Tint in Grapefruit.

YSL Vernis À Lèvres Glossy Stain – Brun Glace

4. Deep burgundy lips – What would  Fall be without the return of a dark lip?   Rich in color, and darker than a traditional red, this season’s  essential lipstick hue reads closer to a berry or red wine.    With such an intense shade,  glosses and stains are a great way to recreate this on-trend look but make it appropriate for your daily life.   Great options for a dark lip: YSL Rouge Pur Couture Stain in Brun Glace, Tarte Tarte Lipsurgence Lip Tint in Moody, and Laura Mercier Lip Stain in Mulberry.
