Cheap and Chic

I have a cousin.  Lets call her Belle.  Just about every time I talk skincare/ makeup with Belle she claims the following:

“Girl, every time I talk to you you cost me money”.

Well cousin Belle, this bud’s for you!
While its certainly not my intention to cause folks to take
out a second mortgage, how can you put a price tag on a product that works?!?  Having said that, I happen to love a whole slew of products that cost less than $10.  So for Cousin Belle and all the Cousin Belles out there, behold —
ThisThatBeauty’s list of Favorite Fabulous Cheap & Chic Beauty Products –> drum roll please
Topping the list at the ridiculous price tag of one measly dollar (that’s 100 nominal pennies) I offer you e.l.f. All Over Color Stick in Toasted.  I love to use this stick as an under eye highlighter.  Its also great around
the outer contour of the eye area, leading up to the temple.  I also like a light  stroke down the cnter of my nose and across the center of my forehead.  Absolute luminosity!!!
All Over Color Stick comes in a wide variety of shades.  My perfect highlight color is Toasted.  Find the shade that works for you!
Here’s how e.l.f. describes this pint sized, low budget wonder:

3 in 1 color for your  eyes, lips, and or face. Get  the  color that illuminates for a healthy glow, and  instantly soothes and conditions the skin for fresh and natural  color all day long.

This  eyeliner retails for about 5.99 at most drugstores. True to its name, this liner lasts a
long time.  Not sure I can say its a solid 24 hours because, come on, who’s wearing eyeliner for 24 hours?  But for the 8 hours I’m at work, this stuff does not budge.  And talk about color richness.  The black liner is one of the blackest blacks I’ve ever used  I also love that the pencil is super soft and applies like a dream. No tugging required.  The liner comes in 12 different shades.  There are three black shades – Black, Blackest Black, and Velvet Black.  I have no idea which  black I own (sorry) but at 5.99, pick a Black, any Black  🙂

Next up is actually not a particuar product but an ENTIRE product line – NYX  Cosmetics.

And ohh, buddy!  If you do not know this line you need to get extremely familiar.  If MAC is breaking your wallet, give NYX a try.  NYX is a professional makeup line, just like MAC.  Their colors are on the cutting edge and richly pigmented, just like MAC.  NYX’s product line covers everything from lips, to eyes, to body, glitter, eyelashes, nails, brows, face, makeup bags, tools, clothing, etc — JUST LIKE MAC.  Are you catching my drift here?  NYX is a great alternative to MAC!  My beauty supply guy told me that MAC and NYX are made out of the same factory.  Hmm, I guess I buy that for a buck..its not so far fetched.  But whether that’s true or not makes me no never mind.  NYX works!
Their products range from about 2.99 to 25.00 (but that’s for their black label).
Some of my favs  include:

This is my absolute favorite eye brow pencil in the  world.  I use it for myself as well as clients.  It comes in 8 shades and costs roughly $4.00.

Pick a color.  Any color.  There’s over 160 to choose from.  These shadows are amazing and of professional quality.  I use these all the time for both personal and professional use.  With respect to color intensity and staying power, this shadow definitely is up there with MAC,  NARS, and Makeup Forever.  Cost is roughly 5.00.  NYX also does great eye color trios at about 8.00.
The two products listed above are my NYX favs, but try for yourself.  My girlfriends love their glosses too!
NYX can be ordered directly through their website.  But I think you will find the products slightly discounted through most Sally Beauty type stores.  If you’re a professional makeup artist, they offer a 40% off pro discount.  I typically find that I get a better deal through discount beauty supply stores vs. using my pro discount.
So folks, this is gonna do it for today’s installment of Cheap&Chic.  I will try to make this a regular column.  There’s so much more Cheap&Chic out there…but alas, my time up up under the hair dryer.
Until next time,
Felicia
