BECCA, BECCA, BECCA…

Becca, Becca, Becca

This post is dedicated to the makeup line that is Becca. I feel the need to shine the limelight on Becca because they do something I wish more makeup lines would…cater to the full complexion spectrum. And I’m not talking your obligatory one or two “Halle Berry” like shades (nothing against Halle)….but I’m talking about taking your cosmetics line to the deeply rich tones that reach the complexion richness of an “Alek Wek”. Well Becca can match Alek Wek and deeper. In my opinion, this says something about Becca. This is a brand that recognizes the value of marketing their products to a neglected group. Yes, we’ve come along way baby…there are more options today than ever before. But by far, the majority of the cosmetic lines out there do not get it right. I really want to name names but we all know who the offenders are. A few of the department store/ specialty brands that get it right or come close:

Becca

MAC

Prescriptivs

Napoleon Perdis

Giorgio Armani

Nars

Bobbi Brown

Clinique

Lancome

Estee Lauder

Ben Nye

Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics

Smashbox

Bare Escentuals

Chanel sort of gets it right. Over the last couple of years they have expanded their collection, adding a few darker tones. I had a rather lengthy conversation with a representative from the brand. I expressed my concern over the lack of foundation options for the sisters. Here’s what the rep had to say in defense of the line. She said that Chanel is a French brand and that is their base. They recognize that there is an audience at the deeper end at the complexion spectrum. The have made strides over the years to expand their offerings. Their strategy is to add a shade or two every couple of years. She further defended the brand by saying that they are the only independently owned department store brand out there…and they do not have the resources to cover a wider color spectrum. For example, Estee Lauder owns MAC, Bobbi Brown, Perscriptives, Stila, Clinique, and many more. So they clearly have deeper pockets and the ability to take a chance on reaching a wider audience. I found my conversation with the Chanel rep to be rather enlightening. I guess I now have an understanding from both perspectives.

But back to Becca. Not sure how large they are as a company or whether or not they are independently owned. But I do know they clearly love the sisters. So lets show the love right back and support their brand.

The Becca philosophy says it all:

“The whole philosophy of BECCA is about creating a natural, flawless look. It’s really about skin looking amazing – everything else is secondary.”
– Rebecca Morrice Williams, Founder

Enabling ALL women, regardless of age or ethnicity, to achieve a natural looking, flawless complexion is the bedrock of the BECCA philosophy.

To achieve this, BECCA has developed a 3-Step Skin Perfecting Make-Up System that will correct, perfect and enhance ANY complexion, from the fairest to the darkest skin tones.

While most cosmetic companies offer 3 to 7 concealer colours, the BECCA range features no less than 34 concealer colours and 30 foundation colours. Add to this a range of natural toned shades for face, lips, cheeks and eyes, and a collection of the finest brushes, and you have a complete cosmetic system that will enable ALL women to achieve BECCA Beauty.
