NARS Andy Warhol Collection

The color cosmetics and beauty world has been abuzz for months about the NARS Andy Warhol collection. Today, we dive head first into this collaboration. For me, Andy Warhol has always represented a kind of freedom and minimalism – but more importantly, an expression of art that appeals to the masses.

The collaboration is presented through two unique collections; Pop and Silver factory. Both collections are inspired by aspects Warhol’s life , and muses Debbie Harry, Edie Sedgwick, and Candy Darling.

The Pop Collection will be available in Sephora October 1st and features bold colors and vibrant hues that are perfect for fall. The packaging is as such that if you love Warhol, you would want to own every single piece, because each piece can stand on its own as a piece of pop art. Silver Factory Collection of products and packaging draw inspiration from Candy Darling, Warhol himself, Edie Sedgwick and The Factory and can be purchased in November at department and specialty stores as well as www.narscosmetics.com

NARS Andy Warhol Debbie Harry

Packaging includes photo booth style depiction of Debbie Harry with contents used to created the muse’s signature look.

NARS Andy Warhol Flowers Palette

NARS Andy Warhol Flowers Palettes.

The three Flower Palette shadows draw their design inspiration from Warhol’s famous painting, Flowers, with the design in the eyeshadow pallete making its way all the way to the pan – which means you will still have the outline of the pallete design as you work your way through the shadows. My favorite from this lineup is palette Number 3.

The Andy Warhol Self Portrait Shadow Palettes

NARS Andy Warhol Self Portrait 2

;

NARS Andy Warhol Self Portrait Palette 3

The collection would be incomplete without something dedicated exclusively to the artist many described as a narcissist….get it?…@narcissist.

The Andy Warhol Self Portrait Shadow Palettes are similar to the Flower inspired palettes, in that the design goes all the way to the bottom of the shadow pan. The collection features new shades and each compact has a Warhol quote emblazoned on the mirror. My favorite is Andy Warhol Self Portrait Shadow Number 2. Retail $55

Here are my top picks from the entire collection that are not included in the featured gift sets or presented in special packaging. Coincidentally, this lines up perfectly with what I will be doing for fall.

NARS Andy Warhol Viva Larger Than Life Lip Gloss

NARS Andy Warhol New York Dolls Nail Polish

;

NARS Andy Warhol Trash Soft Touch Shadow Pencil

NARS Andy Warhol Penny Arcade Larger Than Life Lip Gloss

This limited edition collaboration is the largest such undertaking for NARS and is a similar feat for the Andy Warhol Foundation. According to an aritcle in WWD, NARS plans to have several such collaborations over the next two years. I never found any pretentiousness in Andy Warhol’s work and that is what I think Francios Nars has captured in this collaboration – each collection is open to intepretation and you are free to do with it what you will. After all, isn’t that always the case with makeup?
