New Year, New Hair: Healthy Hair Resolutions

New Year’s Resolutions — Let’s face it. We’re all guilty of setting lofty resolutions effective January 1. The usual suspects generally include things like the quest to drop a dress size, the promise to set aside a modest sum for rainy days, and maybe even the pledge to be a kinder, gentler human being.

I’ll share one of my Beauty Girl 2012 resolutions with you – Rockin’ Hair! And by “rockin’” I mean, the kind of hair that commands attention. Hair that’s lush, full, flouncy, bouncy, & above all – healthy!

As most of you know, I take my hair into my own hands – literally. When it comes to my precious tresses, I’m a DIY kind of girl. Approximately once per week I wash, condition, treat and style my hair at home. I venture into a salon every here and there for special occasion blow outs and occasional trims. Given the DIY nature of my routine, it’s super duper important to make sure I’m using the best possible products in my hair. I’m quickly learning that “good quality” and “high price tag” do not necessarily go hand and hand.

Take for example, Optimum Care Salon Collection Deep Conditioning Masque ($1.69), a weekly intensive treatment for dry, distressed hair. One of my healthy hair goals for 2012 is to prevent breakage….particularly during the winter months when the crisp air and frigid temperatures wreak havoc on my poor ends.

While Optimum Care Salon Collection Deep Conditioning Masque, with anti-breakage formulation, is intended to be used as a post-shampoo treatment, I use it a little differently:

If your hair is incredibly dry like mine, try shampooing a little less. Don’t skip the shampoo all together, but give you hair an occasional break from suds. I like to use Optimum Care Salon Collection Deep Conditioning Masque as a cleansing conditioner. I wet my hair, take a handful of Optimum Care Salon Collection Deep Conditioning Masque, and massage away. After thoroughly massaging my scalp and hair. I rinse and repeat. But for the second wash, I leave the conditioner in my hair for a few minutes longer. From there, I rinse and style as usual.

The coconut oil infused formula provides instant protection against breakage and imparts long-lasting shine and moisture. My hair loves this weekly recessionista treat. At $1.69 per pack…I think you can afford to give Optimum Care Salon Collection Deep Conditioning Masque a try.

Stay tuned as I share more blog posts and videos on my New Year, New Hair resolutions!
